TKR What I did on my summer vacation

@newlybionic I think it might be a good way work up my courage to try it outside. If I can ride it inside, I should be able to ride it outside! I think I'll look into a trainer.

I found a recumbent bike on Amazon for only $150. It is quite good for the price. Feels sturdy, big soft seat, adjustable, and it folds up so you can put it out of the way. When I'm done with it I'll donate it. I'll be going back to the gym after I recover and probably doing the elliptical and sometimes the bike. I won't need it any more and I really don't have much room for it in my small house. anyway.

Can't sleep. 3:30am. Checking up on everyone.

Don't have room in the house for any kind of exercise bike. I used to have my old 5 speed on a rack, but it disappeared years ago.

Measured at 125 degrees today, even though it seems to be getting harder to get out of my car bending my knee. But knee feels fine for the most part. Pain still higher at night. Was told I don't need to get more bending, but I had more before surgery, so I want more. I basically want it like it was before surgery. It wasn't able to totally bend like my "good" knee, but I could bend it more than I can now. So I will keep working on it and see what happens in the future.

Wow! 125 is great. I wish I could do that much! Your range will continue to increase at least for a year, so it's bound to get better.

125 is great! Paula is right, you'll continue to gain ROM for up to a year. I realized 2 years after that I could squat in a pool. I wasn't working at, just realized because I was chilly in a pool so I squatted down to stay underwater. Voila!

Hi Everyone,
I may be locked out, so I am writing this while I see a response spot. For some reason, when I sign in, I am getting nothing. No error message, no block to write a response, no nothing. When I tried to say I forgot my password, thinking that may be the problem, then I get a security error. Right now I have the response block, so here goes:

@dianehelen
Good luck tomorrow. You will be fine and in my thoughts and prayers. Keep us updated.

Yeah, I know the bending is considered good, but I am greedy! Pain has lessened up quite a bit. It hurts most when I bend it and at night. So maybe I am seeing the "light at the end of the tunnel", so to speak. Work hasn't seemed to affect it much, maybe because I am staying seated as much as possible and I try to ice it while eating lunch. I also brought excedrin equivalent with me and a couple of prescription pain pills so I'll have them if needed. So far, so good! Thanks for the encouragement. Will keep trying to write as I see someone with questions. etc, but my login may be a problem for a while. Maybe due to the upgrade. Thought it was the school system and their filters, but then I couldn't get in on my phone either. Hopefully this will post.

I was not able to sign in on the PC, but it seems to be working through my phone.

I understand about the ROM, I'm at 125, and my OS said I should be able to get an additional 10-15 degrees if I keep working on it.

BS was done over night sundat to monday morning EDT in the US that is why you might of had problems.

125 is very good and as others have stated it will continue to grow over time.

Today I close in on week 11. Overall doing fine - can't complain! Knee is still bigger than the other one, and has a bit of a "pull" to it, but the pain is pretty much only when I bend it or at night, which the doctor said was a common complaint. I try to stretch it back on the chair legs when I sit at work, 'cause that's how I sit! It's a bit of a pull, but I think helps the bending. If I am the one "forcing" it, I, at least, know when to stop!! So, almost 3 months out and things are looking up!

Not feeling so good. Had to walk to the "north 40" today for the bomb drill. I keep telling them I'll take my chances with the bomb! It was also so hot. I had to stop in the shade on the way back and rest. It is up and down sort of hilly land and back of knee going up towards thigh hurts when I stand and walk. Hate these drills. Now my knees and groin are giving out. Made sure I put ice on knee at lunch time. Staying off feet now.

I would have to walk my first graders to th HS gym, about a 1/4-1/2 mile down then up a hill in th fall. Before my TKR I'd ask another teacher to take them, but after my surgery I felt too guilty. It's rough in the heat especially. Keep that leg up tonight.

@KarriB
yeah - I thought about telling them I was not cleared to walk a half mile yet, but there was no time; plus I've sort of kept my surgery quiet. We have another employee who injured her knee in the classroom last April, and still wears a brace on it and she has a hard time walking. They got a wheelchair to take her out. I caught up with her and we stopped maybe 1/4 mile before everyone else. So we only went half the distance we were supposed to. They didn't say anything, so we figure we were good. But going back up the hill was hard. And with 800 students trying to run past, I got to the building, found some shade, and waited 'til they were all past me. Yelled at 3 boys to quit running and pushing each other! They are the reason I will not go into the halls when the bell rings. I'm afraid of being pushed down. The other drills were ok. I hope we don't do this one again, but last year we did it twice. Knee feels ok this morning. And no classes are coming in, so I should be able to keep it rested. Then the weekend! YAY!!!!

I hope today is a better one for you. Then as you said, the weekend, lots of icing,elevating and resting. This was my routine for a month or so.

Feeling very stiff at night, especially when I need to get up and walk. Walking is hard and I feel off balance, like I will fall. Pain in legs and back is affecting me. Seeing PA Tuesday, but she can't answer questions. Going to ask when it will be safe to drain knee again. That pocket of fluid never did go away. But she`ll probably have no answers. Hopefully I can get her to write notes for school that I need.

Balance was one of the last things I regained. If you look at my thread I was using a cane well into a year after my surgery because of balance issues. Is this new pain or just since returning to work?

At the end of the day I also have swelling and stiffness. After my drive home from work it takes me a number of steps to walk normally. I try to ice all night long so I'm ready for the next day.

Yay! Website back up!

So back in July, my doctor told me I had a smith and nephew implant and that he had told me before surgery that's what it would be. (He didn't). Yesterday the PA told me I had a United inplant. Today I got the card in the mail that it is a United implant. Why would the doctor lie about it? He was rather insistent. Makes me no longer trust this doctor. Should it even matter?

Has anyone else had a United implant? I wanted to look up reviews/recalls, but couldn't find any. Thanks.

@KarriB
It's kind of a new pain. I've had similar pains over the years that come and go, but this feels a little different. No one can explain it. Since its with both legs, I'm assuming it's not surgery related.

Also got told they can never drain my knee again. So I'm supposed to live with this pocket of swelling for the rest of my life? It was part of the problem before surgery and they wouldn't drain it then either. It will keep me from bending my knee any further.
