TKR Two new knees!

Sounds like you're doing great! Just keep monitoring and listening to your body.

I had my first out patient PT yesterday. They bent me to 113 and my extension was 4. I am not at all worried about my new
knee but I do worry that they will go too fast. My other knee is still a work in progress and I pretty much demanded that
they take it into consideration as well. Also my right ankle is not at all good and it is what is hurting the worst today. Hope I
can get them to think holistically about all my joints as we exercise my knee!

3 weeks out and bending 124 and extension 0. I hope they are not overdoing it. I am sore when I get home from PT but not in a horrible way. I asked her yesterday not to overdo it too much. I do come home and rest and ice and elevate and go to sleep. I do not do all their exercises between PT appointments like they want me to. It just feels like too much. I walk instead. Is that horrible?

Nope it is not at all horrible. You are making great progress and you are listening to your body. "Less is more" at times, so I wouldn't think a thing about it!

I agree with what everyone on here has said...I too am a PT pleaser..but I was pushed too far this week and told them about it on the next visit..I am only 2 weeks ahead of you, I have felt and continue to feel your pain...just take it a bit easy..your ROM is great so far! Hang in there and listen to what these Peeps on here have to say, it is worth it!

@Spencieca Thank you, good advice! And the rest of you as well! I am way ahead of what I was on the other knee replacement so I am not sure what the hurry is! lol Hope yours continues to go well!!

Silver,
You are doing great, like you say there is no hurry. Happy to hear that this knee is easier than the first one, take it easy and you are on your way to an uneventful recovery.

@Silver
Sorry for the random quote and no message above. Sometimes when I'm reading posts as the meds kick in, I wind up touching things on my tablet that causes the quote function to kick in. I try to catch it and remove them but I don't always manage. Sorry!

Frequently I don't do all the recomended pt exersizes either. I think they expect too much when you are already tired. Walking is wonderful pt. It incorporates so many of the isolated pt moves in a much more natural way. You're doing great!

Frankly I don't think the femoral nerve blocks do much of anything. My pain was controlled by oral meds, so why would I need one in the first place? So many of them either don't work or sometimes (rarely, I will admit) they cause some damage to the femoral nerve. I think you are better off without one.

I agree! I have the femoral block from hell right now that won't wear off.

I never did any exercises outside of pt---I walked my dogs and would stroll around the house---but exercise--no way!!! Sometimes a PT would ask me what I did at home and everyone would laugh!!!

Well, I do not feel like I am playing hooky so much any more! lol As to the femoral block, I could NOT lift my leg for over 2 weeks on my other replacement 3 years ago. They now think that may be part of my nerve problems with my LTKR. Sigh....so I sure was not doing that again just in case.
I did do some exercising yesterday as a weekend is a long time away from PT. But back to the torture grind today. I am sure she will want 130 out of me today. She is anxious to get there.

Hi Silver, long time no see. I had to re-register with a different address because no matter how much I tried to retrieve my password, nothing happened! I read back on your posts, and I'm glad to hear that you're doing well with your second TKR. At least you have the knowledge this time of what to expect, and what NOT to do .

Keep your chin up, your ice-pack on and remember , no pain, more gain !

Skyelark - (again) :)

I hit 130 today at the 4 week postop mark! Woo Hoo! She will measure me Friday and then no more. Will not have to bend at PT, only strengthen both legs.
What a different experience!!

They put me on this machine last Friday that really killed me! I was down all weekend. I called in on Monday (it was my 60th birthday and I had no use for PT AND I already have my 130 degree bend and zero extension, I deserved a day off).

So yesterday they put me back on the machine and I did only 10 and really got into it with them. What about taking it slow if something hurts too badly? They kept saying that it is so beneficial, but in my opinion if it makes you go backwards, it is not beneficial. Am I wrong??

I am close to switching back to the pool PT once I have no scabs and can get in the water.

Thanks! Silver

You are right, they work for you, just say NO! Your ROM is great, best to leave it alone.
I agree, wait for more PT when you are ready to go back to the pool.

Well, I have hung with the PT and bought a recumbent bike that I love.
My right knee is coming along nicely at 7 weeks. I do not even use a cane and I was still on crutches for my other one at this point. Doc is totally pleased, hooray!!
I am going to do one more week of 2x a week at the PT and then move to the Water PT.

My old knee replacement and revision are still my problem and is holding my right knee back some. I am still at a loss of what to do for it, as are PT and Doctors. Maybe eventually, the right knee being replaced will help it but it still has soft tissue issues. I am going to try Essential Oils next to see if that would help with some of the nerve pain. Anybody else tried that?

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Silver

Silver,
Give it time to heal, as you know it has been a long slog for me. A year ago I was still on meds, crutches, and in a lot of pain. Now I am back working half days, walking tho limited, good ROM, just got an extra 5 degrees and I had plenty before, and sometimes Zero pain, Ahhhhh. You will get there, it will be better, that goes for you too Ann.
