I was a victim of the "you're too young" philosophy. My right knee started hurting badly on my 50th birthday.
My surgeon told me he wanted to ease me along until I reached 60. I didn't know I had any alternative, so i waited for 9 long, painful years, during which time I became progressively less and less mobile and my life became smaller.
My knee deteriorated further and my tendons and ligaments distorted during those 9 years. Consequently, I had a more difficult recovery than I could have had.
I firmly believe that people who are told they are too young for a joint replacement need to find another surgeon, one who will look at the condition of their knee before he/she looks at their age.
