TKR on 40 yrs old mama

Hope your surgery went well and looking forward to reading about your journey.

Hi Pookims,

Thank you so much for inquiring, I haven’t yet taken the time to figure out how to transfer this thread to the Post-op side...

Surgery was successful, pain so far has been manageable although the nights are long... I can fully extend my knee, which I hadn’t been able to do in years!

My knee is definitely stiff and I can only bend it about 50• so far (I could bend it about 70• on the nerve block). Mostly elevating and icing. I like to briefly walk around every 1-2 hrs or so, if anything, just to get out of bed!

My mom, husband and kids have been immensely supportive and I feel very blessed to be surrounded with such love and care.

My plan tomorrow is finding the right balance between resting /elevating my knee and going for more bend. My knee has been locked up in scar tissues for 25 yrs, so I don’t want it to happen again!!

No need to try to transfer your thread, just go to the post op side and create your post op thread. A thread on each side is typical.

In the meanwhile, you should not be very active at all just a week post op. Most likely your knee isn’t bending due to swelling from th trauma of surgery. After that swelling diminishes your knee should bend, but it’s quite normal for that to take a month, of course every knee is different. I’ll leave you with the Activity progression for TKRs to get an idea of what your activity level should be.
