Thank you Jaki I hope things are I proving at your end and your sleeping much better now. I think these last few days I've been overdoing it with too much on the bike and then yesterday walking around for a couple of hours with just the one crutch, my knee is so stiff and sore today that I'm sat around with it elevated with no plans to do anything.

...and I think that's the best thing for both you & your knee :) How is your sleeping pattern going? I'd been having a few better nights thanks to the Amitriptyline, but last few nights the dreaded leg pains have been back with a vengeance  Still a case of a few steps forward & then a few back again. Giving it until 1st July which will be the 7 month mark then I'm going to ask for an SOS with my surgeon. Are you still having physio? Your going to have to try & pace yourself as to what you THINK you should be doing against what your KNEE thinks it can do! If your anything like me you'll keep finding out the hard way  Take it easy & keep up with the icing!

Hi Solar

Spent a good hour reading your journey pre-op and post. Hopefully I will never need further surgery on my right knee following a patellectomy 20 plus years ago but forearmed is forewarned as they say. Just wondering how your are getting on now?

Hi I've only just seen this post so apologies for the late reply. I'm doing quite well thanks and I've now been discharged from Physio and don't see the consultant again until March. One or two niggling problems persist the first being my knee still gives way from time to time but hopefully that will improve as my muscles get stronger. The other concern is sharp shooting pains on the lateral side of my knee from time to time and also numbness in my lower leg which is sometimes there when I walk/hobble, that does feel really weird as I have no feeling when standing, but this comes and goes and is not permanent and also the swelling which is there 24/7, but I guess it isn't something to be overly concerned about.

The swelling is a flipping nuisance isn't it!! My knee is great for about 10 mins when I first get out of bed. The the swelling is there all day! I got discharged today and don't have to see my OS ever unless I get problems. Still can't walk properly and the weakness is crazy but I'm sure it will come.

Thats not good your knee still gives way. Will they or can anything be done for that? The niggles could be things still settling down maybe? I'm glad you're ok though. BIG hugs x

OMG!! I really feel for you.:boohoo:You need way more pain meds than you are getting. Aside from a nerve block, I had 12 hour 10mg Oxycontin twice a day, +5mg short acting oxycodone 2 every 4 hours. They would ask me if I wanted those short ones before giving. I hardly even took them. In fact, I thought they were pushing them on me! Pain control was terrific.

Please get HELP!

Ouch, make sure you take those pain meds religiously and if it hurts stop doing it. It took a good 5 months before the pain started to ease for me and I'm just only now walking for the majority of time without a stick or crutches, but then again my case was unique. The weakness is unfortunately down to having no patella though the extensor mechanism reconstruction I had done should aid me with that once I start building my quad strength back up.

Anyway take it easy, plenty of rest and don't do anything that causes more pain, have you got someone to do all your shopping etc? Remember the new knee adage, too much pain defiantly no gain.

The swelling is a problem and the peas are out as soon as I get in from work But I haven't taken meds for ages as I don't get pain. Not sure if my post read wrong. Everything is good in my little world x

Solar's knee gives way not mine so she deserves the hugs and cuddles x

I know about the weakness. I've no kneecap in my right knee. So both my knees are weak at the moment but having the PKR in the left one means the right one is having to work a little harder x

I'm hopeful that I'll regain my quad strength and thus the weakness in my knee will become less apparent over time.

It will come but as you know time is of the essence. I have absolutely no idea what this means :\ lol x
