That improper use of underarm crutches can caused chest muscle pains.

So, did you have another good nights sleep? Pleased to say that I did, well, apart from keep waking up to straighten my leg out! I was so tired on Saturday night that I thought I would risk not taking anything...WRONG! The Sleepeaze I took 50mgs on Friday night & I didn't sleep at all ( probably down to wine with-drawal  ) I really need to go back to the Dr's & see if she can give me something else as I don't really want to be on the Amitriptyline ( anti-depressant) to allegedly " help" me with a sleep problem.
Anyway, good luck for tomorrow's " session" & try & keep POSITIVE :)

Hi Jaki, unfortunately I had a terrible nights sleep also and like you I would be reluctant to go down the Amitriptyline route. My Physio appointment is on Wednesday not tomorrow so I'll keep you all up to speed thereafter.

My doc said Amitryptiline isn't used as an anti depressant these days, I did finish up with an anti depressant for a bit though

I would say yes, you're possibly using them more than you have for a while and maybe walking differently?
Just my thoughts...

I wish I was using them more but unfortunately I'm not, all of my leg muscles are even sore to touch.

Fingers crossed for a better nights sleep & a good physio session tomorrow :) Ask him or her about the sore leg muscles. They might be able to shed some light on the problem

Just got back from Physio and its been a productive session, I've managed to increase my ROM and its now up to 75 degrees. The Phsio has given me plenty of stretching exercises and I've to carry on doing what I'm already doing.

Good news Stephen :) that's a really good improvement on your ROM, especially this early on. I'm sure as the knee settles down you will just keep gaining with the flex & extension. It sounds like you & your physio are working together to get the best results. Always a good thing! I felt a little bit sad saying "Bye" to my physio on Monday. Still, I have had him for nearly 5 months so it's only right I let someone else have use of his services's :)

It's been a week or so since I last posted and I seem to be in more pain than I was then. Has anyone else noticed how their muscles and tendons behind the knee have become more painful? Now this maybe due to walking too far and for too long a couple of days before. I'm still on crutches but after about an hour of being out my knee stiffened up completely since then the pain has increased. Also I've noticed more bruising has appeared on the top of my foot and my tibia is so sore even when I gently run my fingers down it.

Josephine. I would hate to be the bearer of bad news BUT when I had my big toe fusion I was in agony for 4 weeks. Demanded an x-ray and lo & behold I had a fracture in the toe from the surgery. Needless to say, 9 months later was told fusion had failed & I had to have it done again with a bone graft taken from under the knee. One of the risks of TKR is a fracture. I'm not saying that you too have a fracture but maybe worth getting other people's view on your situation. Must add, I saw my surgeon yesterday and bearing in mind I'm 5 months post op, some of my issues now are down to the deformity he has corrected. Back of the knee is a killer due to not being able to get good extension. Hope someone can shed some light on your symptoms

Hi Jaki hope your well and hopefully those issues will resolve themselves. I'm hoping that I'm just suffering from post op pain and nothing more, hopefully Josephine can shed some more light on this.

And this is being addressed to me why?

I do think that at this stage this needs to be brought to the attention of your surgeon if only for reassurance.

...because my iPad missed off the sentence before asking for your input. Was just trying to get Solar Cycles post read so hopefully he could get the reassurance he needs.....

How are you & your leg feeling today Stephen?

Just catching up on your thread, Solar. Sounds like you are one with a more complicated recovery. Let us know what you find out about the latest leg pain.

Sorry for the late reply, I haven't been feeling too good the last couple of days due to not sleeping basically. The pain in the tibia area has improved but the top of my foot is still incredibly sore to touch and remains bruised, also by the end of a day my foot is red raw looking, it appears to be rash like in nature, but each morning this has subsided. On the exercise front I haven't been able to do any for the last five days but hopefully I'll start afresh today.

Hi Stephen. Just checking in to see how you are? Have you got a follow up appointment with your surgeon anytime soon? How's the foot/rash? Have you managed to start exercising again? Frustrating business this sodding TKR business if you ask me
Hope you have a better weekend
