Knee Infection* The girl with the two fake knees

Glad to hear you are keeping your ID up to date on your dressings, and medication changes.

Yes, I'm glad your ID doctor is being updated, but I would still be happier if she/he was suggesting the treatment, rather than just being told what is happening. Jen, your surgeon should be consulting the ID and together they should be making a plan. It shouldn't be up to you to do the updating.

Yes, good to hear the ID knows and must believe the new antibiotic is sensitive to the infection. I was terribly scared and worried when my incision continued to seep for 4 weeks, but you are holding up very well with the size of that hole. I do worry about the wound closing because it's so wide.

Jen I will add one more voice to the others that your dressing needs to be changed and monitored by a wound care center. Cultures of the wound is a good first step but without them checking what the bacteria is susceptible to the infection will never be gone. Your blood tests may look promising currently but if the bacteria gets into your blood system you will be in a very bad situation. I pray that you are better soon.

I'm glad you are keeping tabs with your ID. Wow..I didn't realize how big your wound had gotten. Mine was only 2½ x 1½ (size of my scar) and I was freaking out because I could actually see the muscle and movement. After 4-6 weeks they went ahead and did a skin graft to close it up, but there was no infection involved. I hope it keeps going well for you Jen and doesn't take too long to heal up.

Jen, I've resized your images so they aren't so 'in yer face' and easier to see in perspective. You images were 1400x1200 pixels in size which is HUGE! I've reduced them to 300 pixels width which I think you will agree are much easier to view.

It's amazing to me how much less painful it is to unpack it!
This is very natural actually as the clearly visible granulation tissue (looks even, pale and smootth) has no nerves and is therefore numb!

Jen, just checking on you. Hope things are going well and you're seeing more healing with that wound.

Hi Jen, I too just wanted to drop in and say hi. I am still praying for your healing. Things seem to be looking better...And I hope you get feeling better soon. To be truthful, I have a hard time looking at your pictures, and believe me I am not squemish. But I think it is because it could be anyone of us fighting your battle. I know we just handle what we are delt because basically we have too! But I am still not sure I could handle it as well as you have. You are a strong woman!
Enjoy the next few days here in western NY...50 degrees!! Woohoo, get some fresh air if possible..It will make you feel better for sure.
Blessings,
Lene'

@ACDCJen Hi Jen, I hope things are progressing well for you. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers!

Me too!!! Hope you are doing well. Sending positive thoughts.

Sorry for being incommunicado. Been feeling ill. Think I got hit with something flu-like. Went out to eat with Scott on Saturday and for a drive. I was exhausted. Still using the wound vac interspersed with packing with Dakin's.

I see both doctors next week.

Jen

I'm sorry you're feeling ill. Have you been taking a good probiotic? It really helped my stomach with all the antibiotics.

A good natural probiotic in addition to yogurt is fermented saurkraut. Bubbies is the only brand available here, look in the refrigerator area of the market

Sorry about the flu. It is really rampant this year yet again! I've known quite a few people who have become sick and sadly it can really hang on. Take care of yourself!

I am praying for your complete healing.
