Knee Infection* The girl with the two fake knees

Hi Jen, sorry I haven't posted on your thread in a while. I hope you are feeling better every day. This is a hard enough journey even without all your complications! You have been amazingly strong and resolute and I so applaud you for that. So glad you have your family near by to help you too. Also hope you can soon get out and about, participation in daily living is crucial for mental health as well. Glad you are enjoying your shows, I can not comment as I gave up my TV 5 years ago. I keep up with the computer, and I have been reading a ton lately.
I occasionally miss watching a movie, but usually too busy to take the time. Although when I was in the early days, I did watch a couple oldies on Youtube... Sorry the Falcons did not win yesterday...I miss football, I used to watch it in the 80's with my dad, but haven't in years so I don't even know the players anymore.
So take Care and heal up...still praying for you...
Blessings,
Lene'

Hello!

Been a while since I showed my face around here. I've been doing okay. The cipro is wreaking havoc though. I get horrible muscle aches and pains from it. Sunday was awful...I could barely walk! But, I am not complaining too loudly because I will do anything to avoid an infection in my prosthesis!.

Just had a dressing change with my nurse. It's amazing to me how much less painful it is to unpack it! It is looking pretty good and it's shrinking. However, there is a new, tiny tunnel at the top that goes back about 3 centimeters. It's new, so that kind of stinks. We'll see how it progresses. I've posted pictures below.

My Netflix and Amazon Prime are my new bffs! @zzevi Rectify is good. Very slow moving, but really well done. A little too much religion at times, but overall, I'm enjoying it. I'm going to start the final season today. Also started In Treatment, which I like because I'm a therapist! I loved Sons of Anarchy and Breaking Bad when they were on TV. I'm hoping to get into Hell on Wheels and Vikings next.

Gearing up to finish a quilt for my friend Teena. I'm making her mom a quilt out of her late husband's shirts. I just have to plan it a bit more, cut the pieces, and get it done.

That's all on my end. I'm getting a little squirrelly since I can't drive and get out a bit!

Hope everyone is doing well!!

See the little hole at the top? It's a new tunnel.:(

Jen, you're doing great! I imagine you've got massive cabin fever! I remember you saying you were able to read also, so that's good and what a thoughtful gift your sewing!

We just finished Hell on wheels and I must say I didn't get into the first show or two, but after that I became involved and interested it was a good show. We also watched Revenge which was also on t.v. I guess, that was ok also. Sorry to see you developed a new tunnel, what causes that, especially now that your progressing forward. Over all your doing great.

Jen, have you or your nurse notified your infection doctor about that new tunnel? What do they say?

Jen,
I am concerned you have a new tunnel, you need to see your ID and have them take a look. Better safe than sorry.
That it smells tell me it needs to be looked at.

I agree with Jamie and Pumpkin that you need to see your ID and also be seen at a wound care center. The development of a new tunnel is not good. You also don't want the top to close up if there is anything underneath that is still open. I don't think your OS should be the one handling the care of this wound. I also think that IV antibiotics might be called for now.

I agree with Jamie, newlybionic and Pumpkln.

This new tunnel needs to be taken seriously. It's a sign that the present treatment is inadequate and the infection is still in your wound.

I'm sorry, my dear, but I think you need some more radical treatment. IV antibiotics at the very least.
Please ask for an urgent consultation with tie Infectious Disease doctor and referral to an additional surgeon, if possible.
You need someone who is an expert in treating this sort of infection.

Jen, I'm not sure that is a new tunnel. Please go back and look at pictures From 1/27. I think the communication between that area and the big track closed which could present a problem. Look at previous pictures and tell me what you think. Overall you are an amazing g healer!

I may have misunderstood, but I think when Jen spoke about having this new tunnel and the fact that it stinks, I took it as it was a bit discouraging to have a new tunnel, not that her wound was giving off a smell. But I might have not taken her words into context the right way either.
@ACDCJen can you clarify what you meant?

I also thought Jen meant "it stinks" to be "it's awful" that there's a new tunnel. Is the tunnel close to the top near the skin?

Thank you @Red's Mom maybe it isn't a new tunnel, but part that has closed up. It's hard to tell, so I'll make sure to address it with my doctors. Either way, it seems to go back a little too far for my liking!!

My wound doesn't smell, sorry for the confusion! I just meant that it "stinks" to have a possible problem again! I am so sick of the Cipro because it makes me feel so ill. I have nausea every day and I just ache so much. Some days are better than others, but as each day wears on toward evening, I feel more and more decrepit! I do as much as I can, but I'm saddened for how much I've regressed with this infection.

Spent a few hours with Josie, my 4 year old niece. Totally lifted my spirits too! I taught her how to play Go Fish and she was so excited to be crowned "the champion of the world!" Tomorrow is my Dad's birthday and he does not want to celebrate it. Tomorrow is also the 2 year anniversary of my husband's suicide so it's going to be a rough day.

That's all on my end. Thank you for your concern and your suggestions! Hopefully I'm justbeing a nervous Nelly about that hole.

Jen

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow, Jen and praying this infection heals with no other problems. What does the nurse say when she comes in to take care of it?

Jen, I'll be thinking of you tomorrow, too. It sounds like it could be a challenging day. I'm thankful your time with your niece raised your spirits. Who doesn't love a good game of Go Fish! You always sound so upbeat when you post here that it's easy to forget there must be down times.

Hugs. Prayers for healing and strength for you as you continue to navigate this trying recovery.

We really do need a heart emoticon! Thinking of and praying for you. You are such an inspiration!

Thank you for all the well wishes. My nurse didn't say much about the little hole and she didn't measure it. I did contact my ID doctor and I'm just waiting to hear from them.

I'm hoping tomorrow won't be too bad. The missing him part will never go away, but I feel I'm in a better place than last year (even with all that is going on health-wise.) Here is a picture of me and Swede taken a few years ago at Thurman's Cafe in Colombus, Ohio. It's one of my favorites. Miss you Swede.

Glad you are contacting your ID, we will rest easier when this new tunnel is fully evaluated.
