TKR Ten Weeks Out.

@Paisleydoll - glad to hear your PT listened to you! I'm always so disheartened when reading posts here where PTs, surgeons and nurses don't listen to their patients - especially when I know there are so many good ones around!

Thanks for the advise. Told my PT yesterday and he worked on the extension almost the whole time! And it really hurt! Went home and iced, then read the advise here and propped my leg up with a pillow under my calf and ankle. Lasted about an hour. More ice. Did not sleep well at all. My knee was killing me. Oh, I also went to a 3 hour Spanish class last night. Maybe too much? Today...not so bad. So more elevation. Hoping it is much better for tomorrow's PT. -- Joni

Seven weeks (and a coupe of days) in, and I'm amazed and grateful at how little pain I woke up with this morning. Which is good, because I have errands to run. Now watch me go and over do it!

Have a great day!

@tiredwife - I know I'll probably pay for it tomorrow (if not later today!), but it felt so good to just go out and DO stuff. And part of my trip included stopping at my Mother's house going "Ice pack! I KNOW you have an ice pack around here somewhere!", then sitting for a while to visit and ice my knee! :snork:

@Paisleydoll LOL you know frozen peas works just as good! Glad you had a fairly normal type day! Hubby would get stir crazy and sometimes we would just drive to the park to get out of the house. Hope you don't pay for it too bad!

Yay! I completely over did it yesterday. :oyvey: Woke up at 3am with a stabbing pain in The Knee (thankfully some stretching and ice took care of it), and I made it back to sleep. Then a cat decided I needed to be awake at 6am. There just ain't going to be enough coffee today.

@Paisleydoll It is so difficult not to overdo it sometimes. Just have to be prepared to deal with it the day after. It will get where it doesn't hurt as much, and eventually you won't even think about it unless you do something really dumb.

I had my surgery on 10/21/14 not at 2 weeks yet. Just wanted to stop by and commend you on your journey so far. I wish I had found this site sooner. But better late than never. And just knowing someone out there understands what you are going through and can explain it to you is priceless. Best wishes on working on ROM.

I would say that 99.99% of us have been where you---overdoing things, but certainly enjoying the moment!

Ice, elevate, and understand that down the road, you will not have to think about "overdoing it" again!

That trip to normalcy may have a little price to pay now, but, in the future---normalcy is the best feeling in the world!

@tiredwife @referee54 - Yesterday was tough, but I knew it was going to be after running around doing stuff on Wednesday. I even ended up taking more of the stronger meds than I have been recently, which I really don't like doing. And, on top of it I went to PT, which was uncomfortable. But my leg straightened a bit more! (From -8 to -5) So that's a battle I'm slowly winning :-)

Today's a quick trip to the grocery store for dinner supplies, then spending the rest of the day of the couch working on Christmas gift knitting. I've got the time off from work, so I might as well use it.

@Azeela - The first two weeks were so hard! I'll admit I spent the first month (and the not-so-occasional day after that) wondering what the heck I'd done to myself. Then I found this place, and realized I wasn't alone. :-)

Hang in there. There will be bad days, but the good days will outweigh them soon.

@Paisleydoll glad you are having some couch time, make sure you elevate! It is so easy to overdo it! Glad your extension is improving. It will keep getting better!

Hey Paisleydoll, what town do you live in? We raised our kids in Lexington, but now moved to Belmont on the Cambridge line. And where did you have your surgery? I went to The General.

@Jane B. - I'm over in Natick, and had my surgery here in town at Metrowest/Leonard Morse. My surgeon works here and at a hospital in Boston, and I'm all for the convenience of being close to home! I'm also doing my outpatient PT there, which is nice. I feel terrible when I hear people have hours long drives to get where they're going, and I've got five minutes, tops, in heavy traffic.

Nice to meet you! A lot of them split their time, not sure why. Mine does cases in Milton. Maybe they like a change of scenery and less of a commute themselves?

How's it going for you? Still a member of the ODIC?

I wondered pretty much the same for quite some time, but I also knew that I had two new knees, and there was no going back---only going forward.

@Jane B. - I'm afraid I'm always going to be over doing it! :loll: It's just kind of my personality, I don't like letting things slow me down. (I guess there was a bet among the managers at work as to whether I was going to make it through the last two weeks, as they could all see how much pain I was in. They obviously don't know me very well...) But for every over-doing day I have I try to make sure I spend two days sitting on my butt doing nothing, enjoying my ice pack and giving orders to my teenaged mini-me for the stuff I need done.

@referee54 - The thing I've had to keep reminding myself is that, YES! This hurts! It hurt more than my pre-surgery knee (and that was pretty darn bad). But this pain? It will get better and go away. It's finite, where the constant bone-on-bone scraping I had wasn't ever going to get any better on it's own. And some morning I'd just sit in the shower and cry, and get it out of my system, then go do what I needed to.
