THR Supersonic's Second Hip Recoery

I'd still take it pretty easy, I felt very good at one year post op & my 2nd year has been nothing short of amazing & back to my old life. Year 3 starts soon.

I'm so glad I'm on this site, medics and physio saying all healing is done but try telling my left hip, buttocks and left knee!!
I'm not doing anything silly.
Work will be abnormal to begin with but I feel like I need to return now.

OMG, think this a bit further on post op wise but I'm definitely struggling with what to wear 4 months down the line.

I'm definitely ready to ditch the loose comfy post op clothes but I'm not the person I was!

Not sure if I'll be her for awhile yet. I still have a slight limp, I still use my cane if I think I might be doing extra steps.

I was always been fairly well dressed but for the last 2 yrs I've done nothing but work and wear a uniform or sleep
I've total lost my identity during menopause and having two new hips.

Any advice much appreciated x

@Supersonic I just wanted to let you know I moved your post out of the following thread, and into your recovery thread.

As you said, you are further on post op, which might take the other thread on a different path. You’ll get much better replies here in your thread on the recovery side. Would you like to have your title changed to reflect this subject?

You've gone through a physical transfomation in more ways than one over the past few years. If your style once played a big role in your confidence, it's understandable you're ready for a change from your uniform and comfy clothes. You've evolved and your style should reflect who you are now, so figure that out and go for it!
Best Wishes and Happy Wednesday!

Hi thought I'd jump back on here with an update. Had my 2nd THR Oct 2024. Can honestly say I don't give it a moments thought now around hip mobility and strength.
The scar still looks quite prominent but I'm hoping it will dade like my 1st one did.
No pain or meds unless its an anti inflammatory for work.
I had my pre op for my ankle fusion which lasts 4 months only last week and I've got an appointment for my knee replacement this month too.
The ankle and knee wont hold up for ever and make walking on anything less than a perfectly flat surface painful and dangerous.
If you can imagine toes pointing to 12o'clock well my left point to 3oclock! This is due to knee and ankle arthritis.
I've tried physio but to no avail. It can't be excercised away, so surgery it is. It's a risk im willing to take because at 58, there's lots to gain.
Has anyone else had the triple? Hip/ knee /ankle combo all on the same side ?

I had ankle fracture & surgery on left side almost 7 years ago. Hip is right side. Guess I needed to even it all off. Both surgeries were results of falls. And me rushing around. Foolish when I look back on how I came to hurt myself twice for same reason.
Good luck with you upcoming surgery.

Sorry to read that you are facing additional surgeries and we'd love to be able to support you with your knee and ankle issues.

However, this thread is in the HIP recovery forum, so discussion of knee and ankle surgeries are off-topic here. Please read our Guidelines for Posting.

We have separate forums of Knee and Ankle. If you would like to discuss your upcoming surgeries and receive information and advice from staff about these two new surgeries, you will need to start separate threads there.

Since you are currently registered as a Basic Member, and, at that level, you are free to search the forum, read others' threads and post on existing threads -- as long as your posts are on topic for the thread.

Starting a new thread about a new surgery, journaling your recovery, and receiving personalized information and guidance from staff is part of the Insiders Club membership -- you can find more information on our membership page.

Best Wishes, and we hope to see you join the Insiders Club, so we can support you with your upcoming procedure.

HERE WE GO AGAIN...

Good morning,

Its been awhile but I'm back again and gearing up for another operation!! Yay me

This time its my troublesome left ankle is going to be fused. No TAR which I would have preferred but surgeon thinks a fusion is the best option for me.

He discussed a plate last time, rather than screws. My ankle really turns inwards and makes walking on anything other than a flat surface quite tricky.

Im looking at a 3-4 month recovery before hopefully returning to work. It couldn't have come at a better time as my right foot is taking the strain and getting increasingly sore.
My poor right foot will have to work harder for a while longer!

My left hip which was replaced almost a year ago is doing great, never give it a second thought, though it's had a dodgy knee and ankle to compete against so it never really gets the work out it needs.

Grateful for the support from Bonesmart

So happy to hear your left hip is doing well! You sound very positive about the benefits of the ankle fusion. Although it will be a 3-4 months recovery, hopefully your experience of hip recovery will be an encouragement that it's worth it in the end.

I'm sure your hippie friends will enjoy following your ankle journey. You could start a thread on the Ankle forum and pop a link here, maybe?

Happy Eleven Month Anniversary!
Great news your hip is doing well, Supersonic. I am sorry it's overshadowed by a deteriorating ankle so you're not able to fully enjoy it.

If you have a date for your upcoming surgery, please share it so we're able to edit your signature.

I'd like to encourage you to start a thread in the Other Joints Forum -> HERE so you're able to receive the support and encouragement you deserve as you journey through pre-op and recovery of the ankle fusion. This thread is dedicated to your hip recovery so it's best that you start a new thread for your ankle so we're all able to support and comment on your ankle over there.

Here is a link to becoming and Insider explaining all of the perks -> HERE
Wishing you comfort and hope to walk through your pre-op and recovery with you on the Other Joints Forum. :friends:
