TKR Still pain at 10 weeks po

Oh @Anniefannie, I'm so sorry to read this. :console2:

Hope they will be able to treat you without additional surgery. Keep us posted.

Hi @Anniefannie -- How was your visit with the doctor about your Hoffa's syndrome? What kind of treatment did he recommend to address it? Please let us know how you are doing.

Hi. He said I need physical therapy snd he said that it rill go away in its own in time - maybe a few months! I’m confused though because he told me to keep moving it and when I did research it said to rest it as much as possible. And he kind of dismissed me and he told me I have to live with it and push through it. In the meantime it’s still painful and I’m very frustrated. My surgeon always seems to blow me off. I’m not happy with him. It’s so hard to talk to him. He makes you feel stupid. My tkr knee is better but not great by any means. He said it takes a year to fully heal. I knew that. Anyway the saga of the knees continues. Thanks so much for contacting me. What do you think about this?

That's so frustrating! Some surgeons have no compassion. They seem to treat any concerns about recovery as an affront to their surgery skills! It's just plain wrong of him to make you feel badly.

Have you thought about seeking a second opinion -- perhaps from an orthopedist who is not a surgeon?

I don't have any real knowledge about Hoffa's syndrome, but I will check with our other staff members to see if anyone has other suggestions for you.

@Anniefannie .... here is some information from our BoneSmart Library on Hoffa's Syndrome for you. We have had members who developed this problem. You can do a forum search to find them and read how their recovery went.

Here is a link to that search. I did it for you to make things easier.

Thank you so much. I think I’ll see my pain management doctor who was also an orthopedist for a long time. So i have my tkr which at almost six months still gives me pain and now my left leg with the Hoffa or he called patellofemoral arthrosis although the mri report called it fat pad impingement. It’s painful.

I wanted to ask you about this. About two and a half weeks ago i started physical therapy for my non surgical knee that was diagnosed with Hoffa syndrome fat pad impingement. The PT made me fo the rowing machine 200! Then deep squats and then he bent my both knees back one at a time which hurt and i told him but he continued. I could hardly walk out because my both knees were buckling. For about five days i was practically incapacitated from the pain. I actually still don’t feel great. I have pain in both knees. I’m so frustrated and worried that he damaged something. I am almost six months tkr. This whole knee thing has got me so depressed and i have been through so much before all of this.

I’m sorry you had that painful PT experience. :console2:
I fail to understand how they think painful bending and a rowing machine and deep squats will help in this Hoffa syndrome situation.

He should have stopped when you told him it hurt that much. It seems he is more interested in his protocol than your individual needs. Causing you pain that lasted for days can’t be good for you. If it was me, I wouldn’t go back.

No I won’t go back. What a terrible experience. I’m still suffering after almost three weeks. I’m walking better but I’m in more pain than i was before i saw him. I’m so depressed. I just can’t seem to get better.

So I went to my pain management doctor about the pain in my non surgical knee for which i was diagnosed with Hoffa syndrome. He injected my knee with an anti inflammatory. I was only pain free for half a day and that night when the shot wore off My whole leg was aching and it was much more painful to walk. That was three days ago. I’m worried about nerve damage. Has this happened to anyone else?

I had a gel shot a few months before my surgery, to see if it would help me avoid a knee replacement. It did nothing to help my pain. The shot itself was very painful, and it took me 2 days to walk normally again, after getting it. Hopefully your knee is “just” upset from having the shot and it will settle down again.

I’m so sorry you’re having such a rough time. My recovery was pretty difficult, also. :console2:

Thanks for replying. I hope you’re right. I’m worried about nerve damage but maybe i’m worrying too much. It’s just that this road has been so rough for me with so many setbacks thst i’ve lost whatever confidence i had left.

Hello @Anniefannie ! Just checking in to see how you are doing since you haven't posted in a while. Really hope things are improving.
