Revision TKR Sondrals’ Revision

@Sara61 i don’t know if I’m brave or stupid lol. I definitely wouldn’t choose to do this all over again I don’t think, I really thought I’d be all better by the time winter hit, boy was I wrong! I had a lot of misconceptions going into this. And if not for the disaster that my other knee is and the amount of pain I’m in with it, I’d wait until spring. But it kinda is what it is at this point.

In my infinite wisdom today I took an early lunch to let our dog out thinking it’d be easier to find a close parking spot if there were no handicapped ones. I ended up parking 3 rows away and trudging through the snow to the building which is much further than normal. *sigh* but today is the last day I need to come home as my bf is home the rest of the week.

I think everything is hitting me this week, I’m still waiting on insurance approval, have a ton to get done, and it’s still dumping snow on us. Stress is ramping up between all that and getting caught up at work to prepare for being gone. I feel a little like I’m going bonkers.

Well my surgery is off. My insurance denied it
Did they give you a reason? Sometimes the doctor can call and tell them why you need it and then they'll approve it.

Really sorry to hear this - so what happens now ?
:praying: praying you find a solution xx

Oh! That stinks! With @Sara61, sending hopes for wholeness soon! Maybe there’s a better answer?

How dare they! Did they give a reason?

From what I understand your surgeon’s office can talk to them and get them to approve it.

Yes, ask your surgeon's office to deal with your insurance company. It does happen that insurance denies the surgery and the surgeon's office can get that decision reversed.

They denied it because I don’t have 3 months alternative treatment. I’m waiting on a peer-to-peer review between my doctor and my insurance company’s doctor. So there is still some hope.

In other bad news, my bfs job denied him his request for time off for my surgery, so now I don’t know what to do.

And I’d like to thank everyone for the support I had a massive meltdown last night when I received the notice from my insurance company. I feel like a total drama queen lately :bawl:

I also got a call from my surgeon tonight to tell me they reversed the decision so now I just need to verify with my insurance in the morning. *crosses fingers*

I’m honestly petrified, especially since I don’t feel like my left is lagging behind in progress. I’m not sure what’s scarier, not having the surgery or having it.

Well, I'm sorry to hear all the hoops and valleys you're hitting!! :sorry: Sometimes it isn't as bad as the insurance makes it out to be at first....many prayers and finger's crossed :fingersx: for good luck with the OS's office communicating to the insurance company! Hang in there!!

Oh...I just saw your new approved post!! It's scary, but you will feel better...(next year sometime!)

You're not too far ahead of my RTKR with your LTKR, I hope there is someone who can fill in for BF during your early days !?

Great that you have some hope:yes!: until the date of your surgery you have time to sort out help for the early days. Now stop worrying and concentrate on getting this leg better and enjoy the holiday festivities

They’re equally scarier because you don’t know the outcome, but, honestly, one of those outcomes is designed to return you to wholeness. The other is just waiting and deteriorating. Someone on BoneSmart said it better, but I can’t remember how.

I think you are thinking, pre op arthritis pain gets worse, post op pain gets better.

That was the line I remembered. Thanks.

Very clear understanding of the options, I think.

Don't worry about your bf not being there all the time after your surgery. Many of us were alone after our tkrs and we did fine. I planned ahead and had lots of easy, microwaveable food, my toiletries, cat food and litter, protein drinks, nuts, etc. These kinds of things can be bought ahead of time. Have your bf load the ice machine, if you have one, before he leaves. You can do it again around lunch and he can take over at night. If we can do it, you can do it!

Doing things like this for yourself is wonderful PT, so you don't even have to worry about going out for that. I didn't and I did just fine just doing my daily activities.

I got confirmation from my insurance that it's approved. I'm going today to do my pre-surgery check-in at the hospital, pick up a new handicapped placard for my car, pick up prescriptions, and pick up groceries. And on top of all that go to work, so you know, a nice relaxing day! :rotfl:

Tomorrow I have my Game Ready machine delivery scheduled for after work.

I'm not too concerned about my boyfriend not being off, for a few reasons: he works 4 days a week (10 hour days), so 3 days he'll be home; he plans on calling in sick the day of my surgery (I really wish he wouldn't, it stresses me out), and his days off are Wed-Fri. My surgery is on Tuesday, so I have like 3 days to get released and settled back in. My friend and her husband have also offered to help, so if I need something they'll help out. Previously he'd move the ice machine, load it up, and get me set up in the living room before he left for work. Then he'd move it back into the bedroom at night when we went to bed. I have a bucket I can haul my frozen water bottles around in to reload it once or twice a day but it seemed to stay pretty cold for a good while.

The reason I am concerned, I don't want him over doing it, stressing himself out  I worry about him because he's had to take care of me so much in the past few months.

My biggest unknown is how I'm getting to the hospital, because I have to take my ice machine with me, and while today it's 9 degrees, on Monday and Tuesday it's supposed to be back RAINING. ugh! It needs to either just be winter or not be winter, I hate the constant transition.

I had a rolling walker with a seat on it. I put my ice bucket on it and rolled it to where I needed it. The worst thing was picking it up to dump out the warmed up water.

That’s how I did it too, except we used frozen water bottles because honestly I make giant messes with water.
