@marieltha She’s turned into an amazing nurse dog, she’s a former wild child though. She loves to put her head on my chest and sleep that way or curl up in the crook of my legs. She’d really like to be a lap dog but at 50lbs she’s a bit much. :heehee:

Woke up and it's 9 degrees (Fahrenheit) outside, was a little concerned because it hasn't really been cold yet and I was curious how my knee would feel in the colder temps. So far so good, of course I didn't dilly dally outside or anything but I really haven't noticed any pain or aching in it when the weather changes so maybe I'm lucky. My other knee seems more bothered by the weather changes than my surgery knee so far.

Might have been a mistake to do stairs yesterday, my non-surgery leg was screaming at me all night. My hamstring seems to want to stick on that side, like it's catching on something, I hate when it does that because I can't seem to straighten my leg completely, I can force it straight but it doesn't feel great. I finally got a warm shower then iced it and that seemed to help. OF course my happy butt wants to do the stairs again but I'm leery because of how badly righty complained. So maybe tomorrow.

You know you can do those stairs now, so just be happy with that knowledge and baby the other knee for now.

So met with the surgeon today, they went over my ultrasound. I have good blood flow so we are moving forward with surgery on my right leg December 10th. I’ll have to change over to a shot version of blood thinners next week but otherwise that’s it.

scared and excited all in one today.

This weekend has been rough emotionally, I think it’s one of the first holidays since my dad passed that I’ve not spent with my mom. Of course she invited me (specifically me not us) but I chose not to go as it’s an hours drive away. And I still don’t know how to deal with being forced to choose. I also had to broach the subject of my upcoming surgery and that I expect her not to leave my bf out of getting information when I’m in the hospital. Our normal dog sitter can’t watch our dog, which may be my moms doing because it’s a family member so my bf is going to have to be home off and on for her. That conversation didn’t go very well either.

So on top of being nervous about my upcoming surgery I’m once again having to try to balance two sides of my life that can’t interact. Well, my mom won’t, my bf said he’ll back off if she’ll be at the hospital with me, he just doesn’t want me to be there alone.

I can’t decide how my left knee feels, I read other peoples progress and wonder what’s wrong with me. If maybe my surgery went wrong and my knee isn’t right and I just don’t know it. Half the time I can’t figure out which leg is bothering me more. I’m nervous that after surgery my left leg won’t be able to support me or I’ll have problems with it because I’m not sure of it.

I hope everyone had a better holiday weekend than me.

So sorry you are having a tough time again :unsure:can you not get a friend to pop in occasionally and check up on your dog or maybe a day care kennel ( if such thing exists where you are )
Hope it all resolves - sending virtual hugs xx

We have a friend that is willing to drop by and hang out with her for a bit during the day, they’ve also offered to give my bf rides to/from the hospital to see me as well. We’re reluctant to board her as she’s was a pound puppy and made herself very sick the last time we tried and was inconsolable for about a week after. So we tend to hire someone to stay with her at our house because she deals with it a lot better.

I can relate to that- yes its always better for them staying in their own environment ( day care kennel here just take them for a couple of hours -similar to a toddler's creche ).
Hopefully sorted for you soon then you can concentrate on looking after yourself x

A week out. I never thought I'd be having one knee replaced let alone two. Did my pre-op appointment with the surgeon today, he actually seems pretty pleased with how I'm walking, he says the weirdness is my right leg's angle not my left leg.

I still have a few little things I need to do: Pre-register with the hospital, pick up my special soap while I'm there, go pick up a new extended handicap placard for my car, go get my blood thinner shots (thankfully I only have to do them 2 days then I can go back on the pills!), last minute grocery shopping. My bf and I will deep clean the house this weekend.

I've reached out to my friends to see if I can find someone to let our dog out two days a week after surgery when I go back to work. I may try a service like Rover but I'm always nervous about letting strangers into my house. But I have time to figure it out that'll be quite a few weeks away.

Got hit with a snow storm yesterday, I under estimated how slippery it was when I went to pick up my bf yesterday. Several inches of snow packed down into ice rolled down on the roads and it was hovering just at freezing, locked up the car twice, once I barely tapped the brakes, the other time a car slid into my lane. People were having problems going up even the smallest of hills. I think I got to 30mph tops on the way home. It snowed another 3-4 inches overnight which did help with the grip on the roads at least, but it's kind of a mess out there. I think we've probably gotten another 2-3 inches today as well. My bf shoveled this morning but he'll end up doing it again tonight, I'll fix a nice warm dinner while he does that.

I went from enjoying 43 degrees above and dry streets on Thanksgiving and the day after to it being snow covered and supposed to get down to 10 degrees tonight.

Also, I noticed a spot, right on my scar, that kind of hurt this morning and the inside of my kneecap is a little sore, is that normal?

All weekend long my knee felt "creepy-crawly" like bugs were under the skin.

I think that 'creepy-crawly' feeling are zingers; the nerves reattaching. At less than 2 1/2 months out, you will have pain in different places many times during this recovery. The frustrating thing is many times you have no idea why. It just a normal reaction of the soft tissues during this recovery.

@sistersinhim that kinda makes sense as I noticed my numb spot isn’t quite so numb lately. I also think my knee doesn’t super love the snow, struggled quite a bit walking in it as no one can keep up with the shoveling the way it’s coming down. I think I forgot to take my Tylenol this morning too.

I wonder if the storm we were hit with headed North to you??? We are now warming up and have the nasty slush every where....my knee gets sore walking in snow, it must stress the muscles and tendons differently?

It’s possible we did! Where are you at? We had a huge warm up for thanksgiving and everything melted it was so nice for a couple days. I think we’re sitting on 8 plus inches of snow now. My poor bf has to shovel because I can’t, I feel so guilty :sorry: I’ve always been able to help with the outdoors stuff.

I know I have a tendency to shuffle in the snow more instead of picking my feet up. I also tense up which probably explains why things are a little more tight and hurty tonight. Gonna throw on a movie and put my feet up, we’re both pretty tired tonight.

I’m sure this is part of it. I know I’m tense on snow and especially ice. Just feeling the cold air makes me tense up!

And, we don’t just walk through snow, we trudge, like when we walk in sand. Maybe not totally, but to some extent.

Walking in snow is very difficult and like walking in deep sand. Most new knees will end up fussing about it!

Most new knees will end up fussing about it!

Mine sure is fussy today, not only is my new knee kinda cranky my old one has decided that it shall randomly pop from my knee down to my foot. Why? Because it's mean like that, so now it feels like I have a perma-cramp in my foot, the one spot that won't pop, and I'm walking like a shipwrecked pirate. :heehee:

I used to say that my old knee would get jealous of all the attention that my new knee was having, so it'd show it's ugly self every once in a while!

I think you are doing brilliantly considering all that is going on, just the fact you are brave enough to have your other knee done I'm so impressed. ( I don't think I could agree just yet to having mine done - although my PT thinks it won't be long ) Plus you have snow /ice and cold temperatures and to top it off you are still going to work. Here it is 17 degrees and sunny so this helps with my recovery plus I only work Summer months so I'm able to get plenty of rest. As I mentioned in my own post we all heal at different paces and there is no competition as all sorts of factors are present.
Soon you will be looking back with two new super knees and a new zest on life- I'm rooting for you!!
