Could someone please explain to me the tags , ratings and hearts and private message things?! I looked under help and info and must have missed it. I also got bumped for something I said or did and would quite like to know why so I don't do it again! Thanks, Diminuata

Had a good morning today - drove and shopped for all the little things that didn't get done over the last few months. Well, most of them. Some pain tonight but it was great walking through a shopping centre without going from seat to seat or looking for a counter to lean on!

14 weeks today ! Starting to feel I've turned a small corner, with at least three more to go!

I'm not sure what you mean by being "bumped." Can you explain a little more about that?

Hope you got through the movies OK. I could not sit for 2 hrs in the one spot, may be in a couple of weeks time. Cleaned out a couple of cupboards today, so happy with my self, did sit on a chair, 4 bags for the op shop. Any hubby did a load to the rubbish tip, 4 weeks to shift.
So Windy in Geelong tonight, we might get blown over to you...LOL. Have a great weekend. :yay:

I'm only 58, and still having problems getting off the toilet, and a chair.....do a bit of grunting as I try to lift my self up. lol. I have never wished the months away, as much as I have since this knee operation I wished 12 months were up. I really want to go to Japan to see my 2 1/2 year old Granddaughter Momo, but know I have to be fit when I go, as I will need to be able to do heaps of walking. And Running around with Momo.

Good evening/morning! I've been busy, doing a heap of things I wanted to, not just things I had to! Big excitement today - I drove myself an hour to Westfield shopping centre and spent an hour in the Apple shop. Quite a long walk to and from the car park, and I didn't once have to look for something to sit on. I even window shopped , and finally bought a bright red suitcase with 360 degree wheels for a holiday to Queensland. Then I drove home and planted a bag of potatoes in the Vegie garden. Admittedly, not a big bag! I'm now 15 weeks and keep forgetting to take my Panadol, except at night. Being 'good' tired helps me sleep. Leonie, I'm impressed with your start to packing - just get rid of the worst and worry about it when you are moved in. I also keep forgetting to ice as I'm afraid I might short out the electric blanket! ( joke) . I also have shower and loo seats, and grab rails. No glutes of any use yet. My bottom fat migrated around to the front and my tail bone is now very exposed. So add a red rubber ring to the list of old people's gear now furnishing the house. Plush especial cushions for the car and the array of creams and oils for dry skin ( Bio oil is not bad) and the place looks like....well, an old persons home! Tomorrow morning I sign off with my physio from rehab so I'm interested in The Bend. Will let you know. But I'm not sweating the small stuff now... Hydro is going well - starting the second day a week on Saturday with a friend for moral support. Not a great time of year to get out the bathers!

YES! signed off with the rehab Physio today and told her about bone smart. Last measured 95 and today, 110 since I've been following the bonesmart mantras, resting, icing, elevating , and putting things off if I wasn't going die. I feel this is a great outcome, especially to my sense of wellbeing. NOT being pushed, doing what I could and reducing pain. Hydro once a week which I will now escalate to twice. eventually I am sure I'll bend further. Tomorrow I am driving for an hour so that will be interesting. Both for my knee and husbands back. Thank you all who wrote and encouraged. If its any help to anyone out there, I've had several operations including one for ovarian cancer and a. TKR was right up there in pain, and emotional problems. But they are slowly diminishing and I feel pretty confident I am getting my life back.

Great report, your going to be so ready for your break away. I have so many improvements since I have cut down the phisio, and resting more. I can see light at the end of the tunnel. I just wished the wind would disappear, and the sun come out. I also had Ovarian cancer, it was about 5 years ago, but I got over fairly quickly, not like the TKR which is a lot slower. I'm not complaining, life's to short for me to turn into a grumpy old lady...LOL.
Not much more to clear out of cupboards now, have a friend coming tomorrow to get up in the high cupboards, so almost got rid of the junk to the op shops, almost ready for the removerlist to come and pack, I feel better knowing they won't be wrapping up useless things I don't want.

Hello, I am new to this forum and have no idea how to post a question. I am 9 weeks into TKR, ROM is 107. My cutie PT wants me to get to 120. It hurts. It's swollen and I'm getting quite depressed. I'm happy to have found this blog. I've read through most of your concerns and I guess I'm not doing so bad. I just want to stop hurting so much..thank you all
Marie

Hi Marie, hope you find my message. Goto Knee replacement up the top of the page press on that, then go to knee recovery and write your comments and concern, start your story.I think you start were it say start a thred on the top or bottom of the page..Im also 9 weeks, if in pain, I do not go and let phisio puss me, I use to, but after all I have read and been told you dont. I feel so much better. And Rom is still coming. If you go to the recovery place and write, a professional person will come and answer all your questions.I also found out I was under medicated, my recovery is now going better, Im not as depressed as when I first found this sight. Good luck at getting your answers. Regards Leonie.
PS....Its a must to elevate and Ice your leg regularly.

Diminuata and Knee Pain, I wish there were a collection of all the stories of people who've backed off of painful PT, begun to rest, elevate, ice and stretch, exercise to discomfort and not to agony. So many of you begin to notice the difference, not simply in how you feel, but in how your knee bends, walks, works for you. It would be a nice collection to leave in the waiting rooms of ortho docs, don't you think? Finding the right PT is also key. I did and it has made so much difference.

Why have you decreased your pain meds if you are still having lots of pain? Please spend some time reading the library. There is invaluable information to be had there! Also, I have spent hours reading other Bonesmarties' experiences. You will learn that just about everyone early in recovery has experienced periods when they were frustrated and depressed about this long, hard recovery! Also, if you find someone who had surgery around the same time you did, "follow" them. The way you do this is to click in their profile and then click on "follow". When you log in, look at your "alerts" at the top of your page and you will be able to read their new posts. It will help you immensely to " travel along" with someone. Do not babe afraid to ask questions. I have learned so much on this board! Best of luck! Joyce

I'm not sure if I did something silly today... I was changing position on a low sofa and sort of twisted my knee, hip and thigh in an odd position. A pain, loud enough for me to yell ouch loudly shot through my entire leg. I can still walk on it, have iced and elevated for the rest of the day and it seems ok. An 'echo' of pain if you know what I mean. At 4 1/2 months, I'm hoping I couldn't have ripped or torn any of the surgery. I plan in resting it all day to or row, but I'm wondering if any bone smarties have had any experiences.
Thank you,
Diminuata

Joyce, sorry I just read your post. I'm on a lot of medication anyway including ant inflammatory and cortisone and while it sounds silly, my maxi dose pill organiser is stuffed full. I'm always racing everywhere and just plain forget. I have an extra pill organiser and will set that up again soon. No excuse really. Part of me tells me that if I do t think about it until it hurst then I've got that far without them. Yes, I have read a lot of the literature, so there's no real excuse. But like Leonie, I'm doing so much better since absorbing most of the information on this site, and especially from others experiences.

Dimi, I know what you mean about so much medication. I get sad every time I add something new to the pill box. I think I did not realize you we're so far out from your surgery. I am eight weeks and have become pretty hit-or-miss about my meds whereas I used to take them by the clock. Are you taking Celebrex or anything like that for inflammation? If you are like me you have other joint pain besides the knee!

14 weeks today ! Starting to feel I've turned a small corner, with at least three more to go!
Yay! :yay: Nothing like turning a corner. The other 3 will be a piece of cake! HA! Seriously, I still have pain at 10 weeks out, it all depends on what I do and sometimes I just hurt.

Yesterday I thought I turned a corner, only to find a long corridor right after the turn. :headbang: Oh well, it's a journey, not a race right???????? :umm:

Carolina Girl, I have mixed connective tissue auto immune disease: a bit like lupus. A collection including rheumatoid arthritis, Crohns. Osteo arthritis, Reynauds and about a trillion other things. Vasculitis is the latest. I think it all stems from heavy chemo I had 22 years ago but I really can't complain, Stage 3 ovarian cancer and I've had a pretty good time so far. I'm on mesasal, somac, naproxen, plaquenil, atacand, Lyrica ( for neuropathy) and calcium and glucosamine. There must be something I forgot!
Bionic Woman, my philosophy of life : you get to the top of a mountain, look at the view and see there's a whole range of mountains in front of you. You have to try to enjoy the view! I had a uncomfortable night last night: whatever I did to myself when I twisted yesterday was hurting a lot- I think I pulled something along the side of my thigh. Oh well, today is a rest day except for having my hair done. That will make me feel better!

I had trouble sleeping last night also. I have had a burning pain in the pit of my stomach for the past few days. I am thinking it is gastritis from the eights weeks of pain pills so I am trying to taper off.. I had PT today. They are stepping things u p but I am doing well.

Good morning Diminuata, it was great to hear from you again, was thinking of you, your flying out of the state, fantastic Queensland, and you are flying up market. We had thought of flying to the warmer weather also, not possible with house shift. :( I'm not sure how to paste the link for my ice wrap for you, will try later on my lap top, always mess up on iPad. I love the wrap, I was a little disappointed in the quality of it. I paid extra for spare ice bags, and for priority mail, it came from Queensland, and was a little expensive about $ 100 all up.
I couldn't find anything like it in Geelonghttps://broken link removed: https://www.coldpacks.com.au/. OMG I think I have done it, that was so unexpected, I'm so improving my computer skills. When are you off to Queensland? Going for a drive today down the great ocean rd, I'm not that interested, but Noel really needs an outing, he's just been such flat out with work, clearing his sheds, and helping me. Have a great Friday..

kneepain Leonie, thanks for the web link- I looked it up but couldn't work out which one. I thought I read you had something attached to your knee- I have several of the squooshy rectangular packs you can bend to fit, but not attach. Or maybe I just misread you :-(. I was hoping for something I could wear and it wouldn't fall off. I'm doing well, in fits and starts. Yesterday I drove for maybe a couple of hours ( magic day on the bay) and was fine until, about 2 am when I woke up and hit the Tramadol. Haven't had any for ages. It's so hard to tell when you are overdoing it. Until later. It's 14 weeks tomorrow. We are off to Nooooosa for a week, some sun, some friends, some nice food and quiet walks along the river. I hope your move goes well - who needs Queensland when you have your own heated spa!

carolinagirl

I hope you are recovering from your gastritis, no fun with a sore knee. Come to think if it, no fun anyway.
