Call me Tee :). Nice to meet you and although I'm sorry you're going through this - welcome to the "club". Your date is my birthday so quite an eventful day. Would love to keep in touch and learn anything you'd like to share. I am great at supporting! I hope to have a surgeon selected by mid-Feb and hope surgery late May'ish. Xoxoxox

I'm nervous, but not backing out. You will second guess living with the pain and immobility the more you think about it. I suggest doing anything you enjoy, or have to do, that will keep your mind occupied and focused on other things. Whenever you do think about it, try to make your first thoughts positive (I think about no pain and mobility and doing things with my loved ones again...like going on hikes when we are camping).
My name is Marty, and I'll try to post about the process as much as I can the day before, of, and after my surgery. I do trust my surgeon, as he gave me a new shoulder. I'm sure we will speak/chat/post before then.
Have a great day.

newhip47...just going through the threads...I hope you are doing well..Not much to report. Going to start pt next week...ugh..not looking forward to that, but I haven't moved much, maybe it will help me. ruelfal...Hello Marty, glad to hear its normal to be nervous...It really hasn't sunk in yet. I know I need the surgery, but there are days when I think..Should I do this?? Pain is everyday all day...its like my friend..good grief, always wants to be with me. You get use to it. I want to be pain free though, so that's what keeps me going I think. Please do let us know how your doing. Be well my friend..your not alone:friends:

@newhip47 hope you are still recovering quickly. @Freaky freak are you getting nervous yet? You are coming
up to get your new hips soon! @paulcfc Hope you are recovering well. We haven't heard from you lately....

@chaseyboy I hope you are doing well! You have my well wishes as surgery day draws near for you. I start back to work on Monday. I believe that I am ready. I can hardly believe that it has been 6.5 weeks since my surgery. My PT ended Christmas week, and I was told that I could return to all the activities that I'd been missing (except running and jumping which will be out of my life pretty much forever if I want to protect my new hip). She said that I was ready to return to spin class, but to take it easy as I got started. I've been working up to one hour of cardio between the bike and the elliptical. I am going to try my spin class on Monday. I think I'm ready, but will stop early if anything feels "not right". Remember that EVERY recovery is different. I do feel VERY fortunate that all has seemed ahead of schedule for me. Yet, I am still early in recovery. So, it is still a day at a time. Chaseyboy -- I am so VERY happy that I had the surgery! My right leg (operated leg) feels good, no pain and strong! I'm guessing that at some time I may have to have my left hip done as well -- but I'll move forward as though that day may not come! And, enjoy the energy and fun that has come with "getting my pain free life back"! It has been a true gift!! I'll be checking your thread. Please update and let us know how all is going. Remember that each day that is better than the one before is a very good thing!

MajorHeidi Hey you...didn't start pt yet put it off till 1/13...another ugh..how you doing? A toast to you to lol:cheers2: I walked WalMart today my pt for the day....good grief,,,,wanted to get on those motorized scooter...Will NOT...LOL.......want to look good.....so I leaned on the cart...My husband says.....want to get in the cart...I'll push....He's a riot right???:heehee:..Oh geezzz....

newhip47..Hey you thanks for the reply...One question....may seem crazy...do you always think of the new hip...I mean that its not yours? I just get freaked out thinking of removing a bone in my body and replacing it. Did you have those thoughts..? Be well my friend..nice to meet you. You have no idea how happy I am to talk to you.:console2:

I think you jut hit my biggest hang up. I've had surgery before - not so freaked out about that, but more the concept that they are taking something of mine out. Completely removing it and replacing with something foreign. I realize in the end it's for the right reason, but what the procedure actually is, terrifies me. Not sure why - it seems so irrational to have this fear or stigma...

@chaseyboy -- Honestly -- I'll tell you that at first it felt truly alien! The PT really worked with me to try to stop saying "bad hip/new hip". She told me to treat them both as "good hips". Which I do believe I'm beginning to do (still worry about planting my foot and turning sharply away from by hip) -- the one thing I was told not to do. But, I really think that my "new hip" is stronger than my left. It feels really strong and good. I know that yours will too. Remember to do just what the doctors tell you to do and let everyone wait on you at first. The pain meds do truly keep the pain away if you take them as directed. And, in no time you'll find that you need them less and less. It is an amazing journey and truly a new chance at really enjoying life pain free.

It may seem irrational, but it actually is a thought that many people have. So you're not alone by any means.

What is important to focus on is that the joint that's being removed is worn out and broken....no longer functional. Science has blessed us with wonderful implants that completely restore functionality to a bad joint. All your arthritis pain will be gone! We are so lucky to be living in these times!!! Once the surgery is completed, you will not feel anything unusual about your new hip. It will truly be "yours."
