Seeking "buddy" to learn from

@chaseboy - hi "buddy" of mine :)... As for your question. My cousin (42) has had both hips replaced. She said the first one she didn't, she didn't do pt prior and she regretted. As painful as it was to do things she wasn't driving post surgery for 4-5 weeks. She said the second THR she decided to try pt before it and noticed a big difference and was driving within 2 weeks. While this is not a firsthand experience it did help me decide a little pain now may be worth it in the long run to have a stronger core and muscles around the hip so they recover quicker. Now granted my cousin is substantially overweight but several weeks of pt can help her, I am more than willing to try. Just my two cents....

Good luck and we need to stay in touch. I'm scared to death but thinking after the holiday I need to investigate a surgery date as walking and limping and aching are just starting to take a mental toll on me. I'm tired of feeling like a sexy able-bodied 46yo one moment and a handicapped undesirable the next lol. It messes with your head this chronic pain thing. I never knew or could relate to others and now have a much deeper compassion.

Have a great holiday all! Hopefully with loved ones and some relief!

MajorHeidi, are you able to do the pt? I know its going to be painful.....whats the point anyway? Would'nt be to bad if I knew it would make the hip better..geez...hope it goes well for you:dancy:

@chaseyboy I went to PT today for the first time. The PT said hardly anyone comes anymore ahead of time, but thought it was a great plan for me to be there and get strengthening exercises ahead of the surgery so it would make recovery easier. hope that really pans out. Anyhoo, I was given bridges, leg lifts from front and side, put leg on knee like putting on shoe for stretch, etc. All in all, seems promising.......

frieds..Hello and yes we will be buds...So nice to meet you...Your still sexy lol....Im 56 but if I do so so myself I think I've held up well,,,This hip thing when I look back started probably 10 years ago...ever so slowly....LOL I find myself being jealous of a 70 year old riding a bike...good grief...Hey I use to do that....I don't know PT seems like a big waste of time...but I'll do it.....Get this I have a jeep Wrangler LOL....to bad I can't video myself getting into it..That would give you a big smile.....Oh My....I think I've just come to the point ...it is what it is...nothing I can do....But It surely helps talking to others going through it...I think to everyone I know I've become a big bore, so I try to keep my pain to myself...My best friend is a big bath tub full of hot water at the end of the the day...keep me posted on how your doing...

Claire...I hope you survived pt........I makes me tired just thinking about it....but I could use some muscle movement...lol...been awhile..I had stopped doing ever thing thinking I would get better..guess what NOT...so I will do what I have to do..Just a question? Do you ever have pain in your knee? My Knee cap kills me. Doctor says its from the hip..sure hope so:umm:

My left knee (same side as hip) kills me too behind the knee cap. My surgeon also told me very common and once hip is fixed, that goes away! Go figure!

@chaseyboy Yes yes yes. My knees have become so weak. I can hardly do a squat. The PT today said bridges do the same motion using a different physical configuration so I can strengthen that way. much easier. I really need to strengthen those knees. I am hoping the knees weakened due to the hip. I just joined curves to do upper body strengthening while I can't do much else. :puppysmooze:

oh good...I mean not that your knees hurt Claire... lol .I'm just glad to hear someone else has knee pain....You go Claire...get that upper body strong..I can tell you my knee never hurt me before...I keep ice packs in the freezer...another one of my new friend besides the bath tub...:heehee:

frieds...It better go away...so nice to hear I'm not alone....Love you guys:happydance:

frieds It does take a toll on you. Its odd how well we can live with pain....I go to work every day and know one knows how i'm suffering....your not alone. I totally relate..When all this began before I knew it was my hip everyone would say...family members that is ....whats wrong with you? whats going on? Little by little it was hard to hide. My sister would say lets go shopping..All I could think of is how far could I walk before I was in agony??? So rest your mind,,,this can be fixed...Keep smiling girl..We are strong!!!!

@frieds i have pain in both my kness and also to a lesser extent in my right hip.. really hoping that it does go after op' (10 more sleeps!!!!!:dancy:)

if i could give any advice, it would be go sooner rather that later. as i said b4, my hip only started causing me pain about 5 months ago, the pain got bad really quickly, but then levelled off. but the last few weeks have been pretty bad, by the end of my days work, it can be like someone twisting a knife in it. so i'm so glad my operation is coming soon.
dont wait for it to be unbearable..

frieds...Keep smiling girl..We are strong!!!!

@chaseyboy damn right....be positive..

@chaseyboy @paulcfc @frieds I feel your pain, know exactly what you are talking about.
Today, went to church at a different site where they had really low metal chairs. Had to stand/sit/stand
so many times. Ugh.... I hope we all have a happy holiday season with a merry Christmas.

Had a great weekend and now headed home for the holiday gathering with my in-laws. Seeing my dad who is very sick with serious heart issues made me realize that u don't have it all that bad and it's correctable. Thank god for family support. Hoping that each of my new found and important "buds" enjoys the holidays and continue to feel stronger. Love to you all.
