THR Second round ... and I sure hope it goes as well as the first

@Knitquilt No need for any antibiotics pre or post op. But it's good your are getting your cleaning done pre-op as they recommend waiting a few months post op for any dental work.

Thanks @Jaycey. I thought it might be too close to surgery, but I’ll go ahead and keep the appt.

Thanks, @Layla. I was concerned about maybe bacteria from the dental cleaning that close to surgery, but I’m going to keep the appointment.

Will be thinking of you Monday.
Hope you have a good weekend and nerves are in check.
Bye bye hip pain...new double hippy.:chuckmarch:

Well nerves are not in check, but I’m coping @Mojo333 I took a huge leap of faith and yesterday my husband and I reserved a lovely house on Lake Winnipesaukee for next summer. We splurged a bit (quite a bit) because we had to cancel our vacation plans this summer because I was in so much pain. The best part of this house is it’s 20 feet from the water and has a gradual sandy entry into water so I can easily get into my kayak with my two new hips. No trying to get in holding on to the dock with one hand, one foot in kayak and praying for the best!

@anny Like you, I also thought having previous experience would help with the anxiety, and I’m not sure why not? Maybe it’s because we had good luck the first time and it seems like a lot to ask to have 2 good experiences?

Right now I have the feeling that i’ve Just gotten on a scary rollercoaster, and I can’t get off - too late!

I wish you the best Anny - for sure I’ll be following your recovery!

Aww, my heart goes out to you.
You hope if you have to go through this twice, the second time would be easier.
I'm sure I'd have anxiety also but....
You know the drill at the surgery site, that helps.
You did well last time, so why not again?
You've been through recovery and while it may not be exactly the same, you know how to roll.
Why can't this one be better? Easy Peasy! Let's go with that. We really have no reason not to.
We'll be here encouraging and cheering you on all the way. You're stuck with us.
Sending warm hugs and prayers for comfort and peace of mind.
You've got this! :yes!:
@Knitquilt

Oh @Layla Your kind words ALWAYS make me feel better. I think I’ll be rereading your post above over and over during the next few days.

You're very thoughtful. Thank you.
Sending hugs and lots of love :loveshwr: :friends:

You're on my mind today.
Tomorrow evening and all this will be behind you. You'll be in the road to recovery again.
Wishing you comfort and peace of mind today.
We'll be here waiting to read your first post.
Big hugs to you!
@Knitquilt

@Knitquilt Just wanted to say I'm thinking of you and your second surgery tomorrow. I will be looking for you on the healing side (here!). Wishing you peace of mind for the rest of today and I hope you can get some sleep tonight. Sending a big cyber hug across the miles. The roller coaster ride is no fun. I remember that started the day I got the call with my surgical date. You will have an equally good as an experience with this second hip. You know the ropes and have an excellent surgeon (as he did a great job the first time...the proof is in the pudding!). All will be well :). Remember to breath and unstick your tongue from the roof of your mouth...as that adds to a tense jaw!! I learned about that in yoga. It really helps! Of course I didn't believe it at first, but then when under stress, I started to check...and low and behold, my tongue was jammed to the roof of my mouth LOL!! :heehee:
 for you!

Thanks for the well wishes @Layla and @Alitm Right now I’m taking a break and washing the sheets and towels in hot water so I will be germ free tonight.

I never heard about being tense and jamming my tongue against the roof of my mouth - I will definitely see if I do that along with “belly breathing” to ease anxiety.

Will be reporting to the hospital at 8:45 for 11:00 surgery. I have instructions to drink at least 24 ounces of Gatorade the morning of surgery (need to stop drinking at 6:45) so I guess I should get up at 6 and start drinking. Funny story - at my pre-op with the PA I said, “I’m so glad I can drink the morning of surgery!” You should have seen the shocked expression on her face when she said, “You don’t mean alcohol, do you!” :heehee:

@Knitquilt :rotfl: re: the pre-op drinking comment and facial expressions of the PA!!

Just placing your tongue up in the roof of your mouth makes the jaw tighten...I would have never believed it until I "tested" the theory! :heehee:

Thinking of you in CT!:wink:

@Knitquilt ... that's a great exchange .... When the PA said, "You don't mean alcohol, do you!" ... you should have winked your eye and said, "You didn't really mean Gatorade did you!"

I hope you're finding ways to get through the day ... I'll be two days behind you ... and I've still got laundry to do ... some cleaning to do ... some medicines to pick up ... My surgeon says no alcohol after 5 p.m. the night before! ... no eating after 9 p.m. ... not drinking after midnight ... Love the way these surgeons all have their various protocols ... I'll be seeing you on the other side and later this week joining you on the other side.

Wow, love your avatar @Going4fun! You have a real incentive to feel better - you may have a difficult time doing nothing and letting your body heal.

Yes, all surgeons seem to have their own protocols. I have the same surgeon as last time (11 months ago) and last time it was a spinal and general anesthesia and no drinking and this time it’s a spinal and sedation and drink at least 24 oz! I was pretty sick with the general anesthesia so I’m happy to try sedation.

I think I’m pretty well set with preparations finally! I put a table by the sofa with things I may need on it, and rearranged the bedroom so I have a table bedside that I can easily reach. I cleared a path for the walker and picked up bathroom rugs. Put two grab bars in the bathtub and put out everything I need so I won’t have to bend.

Found my thermoses and playmate cooler so I can have water at night and cold pacs through the night.

Just thinking as I’m writing if I’m forgetting anything.

Think I’ll spend the evening cuddling with my 2 pups since I won’t be able to do much with them for awhile.

Good luck on Wednesday! I’ll be cheering for you!

It's certainly not a lot to ask to have two good surgical outcomes!! It's actually the way it usually works; poor outcomes are really quite the exception, not the rule. So I'll be thinking about you tomorrow, and I confidently expect that you will have another good recovery and be on your way to the delight of a pain-free life. At least as far as hips are concerned. :)

Aw, thanks @anny. Up early here so I can finish my Gatorade and will be leaving in about an hour.

Good luck tomorrow - I will be checking on you. It’s really nice that thinking about other people going through the same thing kind of takes you out of just thinking about yourself.

Hope today goes by quickly for you and you have a bit of time to do something you really enjoy!
