THR Second hip after 6 weeks

@Tennessee1 Thanks for the reminder that the walking will get better as quickly as folks say it does! Also thank you for the "healing is very intermittent" reminder too. I've read about that and am sure I will have my moments about it. Curling up and getting on the forum sound like a great way to handle it!! Hoping your sat-down-really-hard event is a non-event. Good to check with the physio tomorrow. Have a relaxing and comfortable Sunday!

I’ve tried attaching a picture of my puppy leg. I thought it had decided to behave, but notice it’s made its way past the edge of the recliner footrest.

I hope the sock on puppy leg has those grippers on both sides. No falling down allowed :bignono:
Wishing you have a relaxing night evening :wink:

Yes, puppy sock has grippers on both sides. I’m thinking of switching to rubber soled house slippers though because the gripper socks didn’t stop my feet from slipping out from under me Friday evening. I’m calling the surgeon’s office in the morning first thing because my butt turned into a big blue bruise. I hope everything is OK but until I know one way or the other I can’t stop worrying.

Prayers everything is alright. I'm sure it's a result of your dive into the chair.
Try not to worry, especially because you mentioned you weren't really suffering any pain other than your back was bothering you somewhat. Let us know what they say.
Hope you get a good night's sleep.
@Tennessee1

Thank you. I’ll. Let y’all know how it turns out. I guess it’s all part of our THR experience. Perhaps whatever I learn can also help someone else.

I'm guessing you probably didn't hurt your hip...back and behind...hope not...but these hips are pretty tough.
Least you know they must've got it in there good.
Hyperextending those already traumatized muscles and tendons not recommended of course but stuff happens.
I just barefooted it through recovery and not
Sure that was great, didn't like when I had to get shoes on for appointments etc.
Hope all goes smoothly from here on out.:tada:

I had the same thing, my leg just keep sliding to the side of its own accord. It soon stopped being a problem so fear not!

Hooray! Just like y’all said, there were no fractures and nothing out of place. He said there was a lot of bruising and that’s what the extra pain was about. I like the idea of barefoot. I just don’t trust those gripper socks that don’t grip. As soon as I get to take off the TED hose (in about a week) it’s barefoot for me. That’s my normal state anyway. Thanks to everyone for the words of encouragement. Hopefully my experience will help remind someone else to be extra careful. Now I can do regular progress reports that show how simple recovery really is.

If I could only catch it moving! I just find that it has slid over but never see it move

Great news! So happy you were checked out and all is well.
Orders From Headquarters - Be Careful. No more falling :climb: < that emoji cracks me up :heehee:
@Tennessee1

@Tennessee1 Ha ha yep I remember in hospital I had to ask my partner to put it back and the next time I looked it was about to fall off the bed! Very odd but luckily not permanent! Just another weird thing about recovery

Love the falling emoji too! I believe the painkiller may have made me less careful. But I’m hurting right now enough to keep me in my chair, so I should be safe right now. It’s the OK kind of pain though, the kind you know is moving toward recovery. On the log leg thing, or puppy leg to me, if I felt able right now I would make a cartoon about it. It’s something only us hippies would understand, but boy do we understand it!

Hope you are hanging in there and icing it all you can!
Hope puppy leg is more obedient.
Early days.
All temporary...so keep the faith @Tennessee1

Hope you have a healing happy weekend!:roseshwr:

Thanks @Mojo333. My Home Health PT helped my Puppy Leg understand how to get into and out of the bed yesterday. Working hard to be patient with the healing process. Thinking of all my fellow hippies in the path of the hurricane and hoping they are safe and keeping their spirits up.

Post op doctor visit is coming up Monday September 17. I’m SO not progressing as quickly as the first hip, but I am making some progress. I still can’t put full pressure on the second hip and can only walk slowly with my walker. Last time I was already on the cane most of the time by this point. I suppose the fall slowed my progress. I’ve finally learned how to get in and out of bed, but when I wake up at night canimake it to the toilet quickly enough. I’m using Depends and doing lots of Kegels. Anoather issue is a vein in my IV arm that feels like a cord and in some places is lumpy. I called the nurse (again) and she said put moist heat on it and they will check it Monday. I didn’t want to post anything negative on other people threads so have been “lurking,” looking for encouraging words. I hope the post op depress isn’t sneaking back in. I keep reminding myself I’m just 10 days out, but the two surgeries make it feel like I’m more like 8 weeks out. As my son used to ask me when he was little (in a tearful voice), Am I gonna be OK?”

Good Morning,
Of course you're going to be okay. Remember, no two recoveries are alike, even with the same person.
It's unfortunate when your first was better than your second is playing out, because then there is the temptation to compare, which is normal but can cause disappointment. You are only 11 days post op. You're in the infancy of your recovery. You are also still in recovery with your first THR, not even eight weeks out.

With two major surgeries, only 6 weeks apart, it doesn't seem questionable to me that you're moving slowly.
I believe you'll get that reassurance tomorrow at your post op visit.
Keep the Activity Progression for THR in mind as a rough guideline BUT don't lose sight of the fact that your latest surgery is slowing your original recovery a bit, which is understandable.

While the Depends are an inconvenience, possibly once your more mobile you can ditch them. Or, downgrade to a bladder leakage protection pad if it's only urge incontinence.

Wondering when you had your fall if you caught yourself with the arm that's bothering you? Well, I guess you'll get answers tomorrow.

Hugs and best of luck with your appt. Let us know how it goes.
@Tennessee1

Oh my stars @Tennessee1 :unsure:
It Really IS early days but I do hate you are having these hiccups.
Body has been through alot in short period of time.
Sending you good mojo and hope they check you over thoroughly tomorrow so you can get on the mend.

Thanks for the reminders from both of you that I’m still just at the start of L hip healing. I actually had some L leg muscle spasms today and was excited because that happened with the R so it seemed normal. My arm vein seems to be getting better, still with some lumps and a smaller corded area. Indeed, I did catch the chair with it when it tried to flip over my head. Very proud of myself for making it through the night without The Depends getting wet. I was able to get out of the bed a little faster and keep myself from rushing on the walker. That’s something I really hope to succeed in overcoming. I suppose I should mention to the doc tomorrow that I had a really seriously bad time with post op depression last time. I don’t expect much response to that, but I’ll mention it. Hey, big accomplishment today: I did fine with Naproxen today. I’m going to take oxy tonight though and will certainly follow advice for nighttime dose to be the last to stop. And I’m not near ready for that. But I did it today!
