THR Second hip after 6 weeks

(I love serious conversations with my dogs because they look back at me so seriously as though they understand. They are probably just listening intently to see if the word “cookie” or “puppy chow” comes up.)
So true, made me laugh!! :rotfl: I hope you're doing well. Wishing you a great day.

You're home looks pretty and welcoming @EL11
Nice landscaping. Comfy place to rest and heal.

The three of you are goofs, I can't keep up....:heehee:

@lovesstars That is lovely.

In fact, the first house of several we "almost" got was a vinyl-sided colonial, so common around here. That place was spectacular inside and had a massive back yard with great trees, but I did dislike the siding and they had skimped on the front door. This house is walking distance from a great park, the market, and numerous restaurants. I so hope that when both hips are healed, the weather will be just right for walking. I well remember driving to an apple orchard last year and being quite creaky exiting the car after a medium-length ride. No more :)

Last weekend it was splendid here and I wished I could have gone apple picking!! How much fun this season is!
Walking in the autumn is really lovely, the air and the sky and the trees...

I love the flexibility of a “walking” life. Walk to dinner, walk to park. So nice.

I am lying next to an open window. Hoping to walk a little today...but big storms coming. I love big storms too.

(Sorry for hijacking your thread with birches picture. It probably is not everyone’s taste. But I like it.)

Everyone sounds so peaceful and hopeful. What a good place to be. I guess I’ve lived in all levels of homes in my life. I had my dream home. It was only about 2000 sq ft. I gave it up when my BF’s daughter was in a bad wreck and the outcome was Persistent Vegetative State for about 7 years. There is so much I could say, but basically here I am. We live in very rural TN. I LOVE the setting, but the house not so much. I have a Masters in Counseling and was the first on our road to have a computer and internet. Now I work from home, which is rare here. I LOVE the birch tree wallpaper. It reminds me of Aspens in Colorado, where I attended college. I hope you are all continuing to recover well. By spring we will all be walking well. Wishing you a great week ahead @Layla.

Tennessee is a beautiful state.
I live in town, albeit a fairly small town, and escape to the country every chance I get.
Thank heavens my sister has a beautiful piece of country I can go to on the weekends and revive my spirit.
I would live in a hut in the country.

Hope all is going well with your hip @Tennessee.
Still very early days and lots of healing happening..hang in there.
Yep, by spring...new lease on life!

But metallic.
I just love that wallpaper. Very calming.

@Mojo333 I would love to build a little house out here, about 1200 sq ft with a big wide front porch. I call the style Grandma House (like everyone’s Grandma used to have). It is so nice and quiet right now.

I’m doing pretty well although recovery is just about a week slower than the “charts” say. But it all seems to be going in the right direction. I looked on the forum but couldn’t find what makes it feel like my inner thigh is burning. My first leg did the same thing so I’m not at all worried. just curious. The thigh part is a little swollen too and has been all along. It looks so funny, like one leg is way fatter than the other. My puppy dog leg is being a good dog nowadays and it sure makes Life easier. Hope you are having a good day :doggie:

A week slower than the charts isn't bad. You'll catch up.
I guess if your right leg had the same burning sensation and fullness as your left and it resolved, I wouldn't be concerned. I'd still ice when sitting around as you're only (almost) one month post op. Sounds like you're progressing and happy. Thanks for sharing!
Enjoy the week :)
@Tennessee1

No recovery is exactly the same so don't make the mistake of trying to compare or compete.
Too many variables involved and the chart is just a loose guideline.

Wishing you all the best today!:loveshwr:

Thank y'all so much! On the One Month Hipaversary I couldn't believe it. It seems like about 10 days. Last week I was doing some loosening up on the pain and adjusting to Naproxen as opposed to serious stuff. Now Naproxen is all I'm taking for the pain, which is still there but much more manageable. Biggest thing: I've been using my cane for the last three days (except at night). I wanted to put this on here in case anyone finds the thread and wants to see a (very slightly) slower recover - that it still happens, only a little later. The only issue I have is that I am a clutz (as evidenced by my fall the day I came home from the hospital). I haven't fallen again, but I seem to have a desire to almost trip over things like a half-opened door, a chair leg, or even the cane. That may mean I'm not really ready for the cane, but it really feels so much better walking with it. I'm trying to improve my posture and roll my feet heel to toe. Probably my best answer is to just be very careful and NOT trip. Believe me, I am very aware of the dangers of falling. Anyway, it's Friday and time for me to go visit my dogs (outside), where I will also get that Vitamin D. I do use the walker for that because the acreage is very rolling and has armadillo holes in places, plus one of my dogs is young and likes to jump up, even though he completely understands that I have a wound. Y'all have a blessed and wonderful weekend too!

Armadillo holes?!?!? :yikes:

@Tennessee1 has armadillo holes!!

That sounds so ...Wild West! Or prehistoric or exotic.

Your recovery doesn't seem that slow to me, (still in bed on ice, nursing pain -at two weeks). I loved your puppy leg description and decided after reading it and waking up with my op leg thrashing and kicking the sheets... that I was suffering from Pony Leg. Maybe a related syndrome as Puppy Leg. It still does it, middle of the night wakes me up kicking away in a move I'd never voluntarily try with a newly operated hip. Maybe that's donkey leg
Enjoy your outside stroll, and watch out for those armadillo holes!

@1stSurgery , it's more wild southern. I don't live very near where they were looking for the guy/murderer in the woods for a whole week that has been on the national news (they found him this morning - hooray for our law enforcement people and dogs). BUT where I live looks exactly like it. In fact, back in August, law enforcement and wildlife officers did a practice search just around the curve in the road from where I live, in the wildlife preserve that borders the property. When I walk my dogs during hunting season, it's a bit of a risk, and sometimes if I can tell someone is hunting nearby I go back in the house. Once my dogs even ran into the woods barking and I heard someone say "watch out for that grey dog." I didn't even know anyone was around. I have two dogs that weigh about 60 pounds and one that weighs about 120. This morning my dogs were all excited because there were coyotes in the woods (I could hear them yipping). I think they were a litter of pups by the sound of them. I love living out here in the wilds of the south. I grew up in cities all over the country, but knew by the time I was 12 that I was suited for country living, so when I was about 30 and a single mom, I just bought an old house in the country and learned how to live that way (there's way more learning to it than people think). I earned my Masters degree and now work from home (have a great job as a technical writer for a company I've worked for sine '92).

And I love your pony leg! Mine still does the little jumping thing once in awhile, like a dog that spots a grasshopper. At least with a pony leg you could saddle it up and make it mind, maybe.

I'm an avid "Forensic Files" fan @Tennessee1 - so I too love when they catch the bad guy, especially when it's from some tiny strand of carpet or a minute fragment of DNA found ... It's almost impossible to commit the perfect crime today with the level of forensics we have now. But quite a scare for you and the hounds to be out amidst hunters... Sounds lovely there! I've got nature even though I'm very close to urban LA, have gorgeous nearby park land and we have many coyotes here as well. Reason kitty is an indoor cat only. If hubby could hire a secret service team to be sure she doesn't get out, he would. They thrive in the hills here and are unfortunately very fond of small pets for dinner.

Pony leg IS saddled up now, with ice packs. A common sight. :)

We watch Forensic Files and all those shows about every night. I can’t stand Deadly Women though. It’s just too creepy. There have been murders shows on the ID channel for three counties to the east and west of our, plus ours. All that stuff about rednecks not putting up with **** can be true. Of course most people here don’t do stuff like that! I’ve been to something like 4 or 5 funerals of murder victims. All that being said, it’s really pretty safe in the country as long as you stay away from a certain type of people.

Hey, I have ice on my thigh too. After walking or other exercises it swells and feels like Jello except with burning pain. Sounds like you are right about where I was a couple weeks ago. It will get SO much better in the next 2 weeks. Hey, I was in Torrence and Redondo Beach this May. I had SO much fun! The picture on my signature was taken at Burnout Beach.

Yikes! That's a lot of funerals @Tennessee1 :yikes: (borrowing @lovesstars patented emoji again!)
Don't know that other show, I watch almost no tv but have a real thing for forensics. Just love it.
Next 2 weeks ...I really hope will mark some change. I need to get moving for work sooner rather than later. And seems I was heavily manhandled at last THR probably during dislocation so the entire leg is whacked. Redondo is a ways south of here but my husband works there on occasion, nice beaches! I like that pic in your avatar.

I'm getting an energy drain moment now so there goes my head...falling in the pillow again!

Very familiar with armadillos and their holes.
My brother in law's arch enemies.
They root up everything!
Critters!:nah:
Have a good weekend!

OK, fellow hippies. I haven't been on here in a few weeks because I've been so busy "working from home" and making progress. My doctor is very impressed. He took me off hip restrictions based on how I feel. I'm still VERY careful. I'm now walking about half a mile per day with my doggies. I truly have to share my little "song" that I use to call cadence as I walk. Feel free to roll your eyes. My doggies like it. Here it is:

Doctor said your hips are blown.
X-rays show they’re bone on bone.
Pain can make you ornery.
Schedules you for surgery.
Left right, left right, left right, left right, LEFT RIGHT!

Now you’re doing ankle pumps.
Legs may swell and sometimes jumps.
‘Round the kitchen we will go.
On a walker, take it slow.
Left right, left right, left right, left right, LEFT RIGHT!

Gently do your therapy,
Raise those legs so gracefully.
Cane and walker soon be gone
Then your life can carry on.
Left right, left right, left right, left right, LEFT RIGHT!

Now we’re walking in the sun,
Swing that cane and have some fun.
Roll your feet from heel to toe,
Brand new hippies must walk slow.
Left right, left right, left right, left right, LEFT RIGHT!

Suck that gut in nice and tight,
Shoulders back and chin up high.
Better than you’ve ever been,
Fit and strong and maybe thin.
Left right, left right, left right, left right, LEFT RIGHT!

Pain from old hips won’t be missed,
Reach on toward your bucket list.
Reach up high and someday low,
Metal hips are sexy, so…
Sound off! Left right, left right, left right, LEFT RIGHT!

:roseshwr:I love love love!:puppysmooze:
Glad you popped in for update!
Hope your weekend is sweet!
