THR Second hip after 6 weeks

Good to see you on the healing side @Tennessee1 Loved reading about how you decorated your walker...great idea! Sorry that Puppy Leg has a mind of it's own. Along the lines of "shake a leg" (as in hurry up!), be careful with the "lift a leg" as SurreyGirl cautioned!! :heehee: Those who have been through the surgery can better council you on how and when that issue comes right. Hopefully your first surgery experience will guide you on that?
Hope that your PB comes up to a go-home level asap.
The back pain sounds brutal. Hopefully at home in/on your own bed/recliner/couch you will be a lot more comfortable. Thinking of you and sending lots of positive healing thoughts! May you get home soon:)
:flwrysmile:

Hope the BP stabilizes soon.
Recovery feels so much more relaxed at home.
No unwelcome interruptions.
Take your meds on schedule, gets lots or rest and ice, ice, ice :ice:
@Tennessee1

Will be thinking of you @Tennessee1 and following your progress as I too go into second hip this month. First was in June. Best of luck to you tomorrow and see you in recovery!
It’s not too bad, 1stSugery. Definitely there is pain,but it does respond to the meds. I feel like a pro on the walker. The hospital staff were again great. It feels so Ggood to be on the mend, even though it’s just the start. I LOVE that you are doing headlights on your walker!

Congratulations @Tennessee1 for being on the other side of #2! I'll be joining you soon!! I'm juicing my walker up for round 2 and just ordered a pair of bicycle lights to take it for midnight runs to the bathroom (no pun intended) and so I won't have to turn bedroom lights on. They attach to the arms, or handlebars and are small battery operated "headlights" :)

Happy you had a great hospital staff too, it makes such a difference. I've been very impressed with my hospital as well and not feeling too nervous at this point.

Keep icing and let us know how you're doing. Healing energy going to Tennessee!

Hi :hi:
You have the drill down, lots of rest, lots of ice and bathroom breaks.
That's all you need to be doing in these very early days.
It's good to hear your pain is under control. Ask for the ice for your groin
if you're experiencing discomfort. Don't wait, I'm sure if you ask you'll get it right away.
Hope today is a peaceful one.
@Tennessee1
Yes, I’m a big believer in ice, using one on each side of the leg so the minor swelling gets treated all at once. I’m just resting, icing, and restrooming. I’m taking the higher dose of pain meds(2) for now and it really helps. The new hip feels a little weak but should be just fine over time. Today has been peaceful, as you wished for me. Savoring it to remember on th more difficult days. I’m so proud to be a double hippie!

They let me go home today, although they were really thinking of keeping me. I’m doing 5 minutes walks every hour and nothing more. Still a little lightheaded on the walker. I think a better night’s sleep will help, assuming I can accomplish that. I sure hated saying bye to all the hospital staff Several, including my doctor thanked me for writing the brief letter to the head of the osteo department at the hospital.

Restrooming :heehee: Love it!
Keep in mind...you may not have more difficult days, you never know, right?
Let's wish and pray to that end.

How thoughtful of you to take the time to compose a letter of gratitude.
You reap what you sow. Blessings coming your way, I'll bet.
Hope you have another peaceful night.
@Tennessee1

For seeing and maneuvering in the dark without flipping on lights, we use Coast LED head lamps that are light weight with adjustable angles and brightness, that strap around your head. We have the HL7's and they work great for lots of things. The beam is adjustable from wide angle to narrow. They're available on Amazon.

So glad you are home and hopefully able to find some semblance of comfortable!
Healing hugs :roseshwr:

Puppy leg because it won’t lay still. Keeps scooting away from the middle like a naughty pup. I do have a bit of a problem though. Last night I fell on my butt while sitting down in a chair. I slid forward while wearing the hospital gripper socks, plus my surgical leg may have had no strength. I’m not sure. At any rate it did not dislocate and doesn’t seem to hurt worse than it did before the fall. It was only from about 18 inches which is where I lost control. Oh, and naturally it happened 5 minutes after the doctors office closed on Friday. My lower back does seem to hurt more. I’ll probably call the hospital nurses later this morning to see if I have to go get X-rays. I see it that it is a blessing because I didn’t dislocate, but I’m still upset with myself for falling and also moderately frightened. The hospital is almost an hours drive.

Oh my stars...:sorry:
Yes, you need to call. I know you don't want to take that ride...but if they want to be sure...
You know if we didn't have THR and fell, our butt and back would probably hurt too.
No falling down! I barefooted it because I'm a klutz.
Things do happen! I'm glad it wasn't worse !
:fingersx: no real issues.
Please do ice it up..
Even your back!:console2:

My boyfriend is balking on it, but he is really worried. I’m sure I’ll call in awhile. It really is a miracle I haven’t fallen before now, as I too am a klutz. In fact my cousins and I call ourselves Professional Gravity Testers, Inc. It doesn’t seem as funny as usual this morning. I think I stretched my stitches or something because they never felt like this last time. They aren’t bleeding though that I can tell. I’m working up to calling the nurses but I’m so embarrassed and so mad at myself. I’ll do it though In awhile.

Just call and get it over with. No sense in prolonging it.
They may just ask you a series of questions and offer reassurance.
Or they may want to see you. If you dislocated, you'd be in excruciating pain from what I've read.
Let us know what you hear. Wishing you well!

Thanks for the well wishes. Yes, the experience of the first surgery makes it easier to understand what’s going on. Plus, knowing it really does get better quickly helps. The puppy leg seems to be behaving a little better. While in the hospital it crept down between the side of the hospital recliner and the cushion. I tried everything except whistling to try to coax it out. Finally had to push the call button for the nurse. I think she was really thinking “Aw come on. Really.” But she behaved very nicely and of course I explained that puppies often don’t behave (just kidding on the last part).

@Tennessee1 I had a giggle about the “naughty” puppy leg in hospital! I’m sure it is helpful to know what to expect (sort of!) second time around. I find as “well read” as I think I am :heehee:, I really have no idea what expect or how it will be until I get there! As my surgery will be bilateral, and because I’m a rider, I have visions of a goal taking its first steps after birth!! Pray that the dear Lord doesnt see fitntomgive me puppy leg in both legs at the same time....that will be a sight....and how will I explain that to the nurse:heehee:
Wishing you a comfortable healing day.

You just might walk like a baby foal! At first it may be hard to believe it will get better as quickly as people say, but it really does. The healing is very intermittent though, so one day you may be thinking you are almost ready to ride and the next you might think you will never be able to ride again. (You will though). If you have any of those bad days just curl up under a snuggle blanket and cry for awhile. Then come to the forum and read about post-op blues. In the long run you will be so proud of your bionic hips and riding will feel SO much better!

You got this Tennessee!! You know all the things to do and NOT to do!! So play this one smart and have a record recovery!!

Following your thread with much interest @Tennessee1 . My surgery for my second hip is Monday and I definitely want to be on the healing side.
Sorry to hear about your “little fall”. Did you call the doctor?

Tomorrow is your big day! So exciting and of course a tiny bit scary. You will be so glad to have the second one finished because you can then get on with full recovery. To me, it seems this one is hurting less than the first one. I am taking a bit more of the pain meds because I understand you heal better if you aren’t suffering so much. I haven’t called about my little fall. No one in my circle thinks it’s any big deal and I’m kind of afraid they might not be happy to take me for an X-ray. I think I’m ok, but kind of obsessively scared too. It was more of a sat-down-really-hard event. I think the physical therapist will be coming tomorrow and I will certainly report my fall to her. At any rate, I’m excited for you for tomorrow. I hope your nurses are as nice as mine have been. If they are, you could ask them for one of those little cups of chocolate ice cream. That made me so happy when mine brought me that treat. I’ll be thinking about you tomorrow and am eager to hear what you think about it all.
