My physiatrist recommended this to me but the Dr at HSS said it wouldn't work due to the arthritis in my left hip. Hate to hate THR based on only one quadrant of my hip being bad. I think I will go to Dr Marwan for a consult before deciding. All suggestions welcome as I am still in shock on hearing I need THR.

I have osteoarthritis in both hips. You should definitely make an appointment with Marwin.

Going to try Marwin. See what he has to say, then make a decision. HSS told me the outcome not good for this if there is arthritis. But Frank 99- you had it already and are ok?

Hi @Hip hop hooray and @frankx99 I'm 51 and just had my THR Fri 9/4. When I was in my early 40's, I went to a surgeon who specialized in hip resurfacing. When he looked at my x-rays he said that he could do the resurfacing, however, I would need a THR eventually so he recommended a THR. He described my hips like a pair of cut off jeans that just keep fraying and fraying. He said that the resurfacing recovery is very similar and just as long as the THR ; I wasn't ready for the THR at that point so I did nothing for quite a few years. I wouldn't recommend that since I lost quite a few years of my life in pain, limping around and trying to keep up with my family. I imagine that the hip resurfacing process has changed quite a bit in the last 10 yrs or so and that they have improved the process and recovery period. @Cgsb7, not sure what the doctor is referring to when he said arthritis but it seems that a diagnosis of osteoarthritis is treated with THR and resurfacing. I have that condition in both my hips
