Hi Jojool,

I was told with the epidural/spinal I will be given medication to put me to sleep. I was also told I will not know what is happening during the surgery. I hope the Norco helps you. Have you been taking the Norco or are you just starting? I have been taking the Norco on a daily basis and I think I have built up a tolerance because it is not helping very much.

Take care!

Jojool, they give you something so that you're sleeping when you have spinal anesthesia-- I had no awareness of the surgery and remember nothing. The nice thing is you're not nauseous after and they don't have to intubate you (so no sore throat after).

Jojool I was given the choice between the spinal or general, I chose spinal and I too didn't remember anything. They put some stuff into my IV in the prep area, I didn't even see the OR the next thing I knew I was in recovery and they told me they were taking me up to my room. It went very well, and that's what I'm gonna do for my next surgery.

Hang in there. I too, waited two months for an appointment and am four months into a six month wait for surgery. It will be worth it!

Jojool at the hospital where I'm having my surgery the anesthesiologist will talk to me and give me a choice of spinal or local anestesia. I am going with the spinal anestesia you come out of it quicker and less chance of nausea.

Just a quick update. I have my appt. with Dr. Chow on Friday. It can't come soon enough....I can't wait to talk to him, and see when they can do the surgery. The last few days have been pretty good, but now the hip is locking up on me and I get intense pain when that happens. I am nervous but excited at the same time. Thanks for the words of wisdom, it is greatly appreciated!

Update: Met w/Dr. Chow this morning. I am an "excellent candidate" for the SuperPATH hip replacement method. Yippeee! However, they are scheduling surgeries out as far as August right now....so I'll have to live with the pain for a few more months. I felt very comfortable with him, and look forward to getting this show on the road!

Hi Jojool That's fantastic news It's definitely worth waiting a little longer to have the best surgeon who you have complete faith in and to have the surgical method of your choice. August will soon be here and you can start your journey to recovery. Did you ask Dr Chow about horse riding ?

I DID ask him about riding. His response: "I will encourage you to ride as soon as you feel up to it!" YIPEEEEEE! That was music to my ears! Compare that to the other surgeon that told me I could NEVER ride again after surgery. Yeehaw! My husband saw me perk up as soon as Dr. Chow said that! :happydance: I wanted to hug him.

Try the ice. I use it at work and on the way home and it helps me. Its worth a try. And congratulations on your news.

Brilliant news Jo. During the spinal i also had something in my hip to numb it and don't remember a thing during surgery, but woke up with no sickness and felt quite good. x

Jojool Hurray for you getting your appointment. I had mine done yesterday and so far so good. Hopefully home tomorrow.

Interesting technique 'SuperPATH' .. my OR nursing was not in Ortho, so am keen to hear from Jo about the technique.. I read the surgeons bio, sounds great.. Good for you, I am pleased for you.. :)

Josephine...

Jojool I am overjoyed for you. That's brilliant news. Regard Kim

Jojool, Yay, you got to see Dr. Chow. Did you get a surgery date in August? You will be so happy with the superpath way for surgery. Now I've had it done on both of my hips, I am happy for that. I do have the after surgery pain going on right now but in my first hip I have zero pain. I sleep on it at night and can do everything without pain. It's weak from months of no use so that's the only problem I have is to get it strengthened up again. You will not have any restrictions after surgery, that's what's good with this technique too. I'm glad that you will be able to ride horses again too. You will have your life back soon after surgery.
