Having a couple of really bad days. (Whining here). I'm so depressed. The weather here is gorgeous, everyone is either outside at events or doing things I want to do (horseback riding) and I am stuck here on the couch or in bed. I've HAD IT! :hairpulling: I know I have to be patient, but I'm not a patient person and I'm ready to be better NOW. Sadly, I sit here crying and my poor husband doesn't know what to do with me. The pain is so bad right now, I'm hoping it will get a little better......and the pain meds just aren't doing squat for me right now. Okay, done whining for now. :boohoo:

It is normally to have times feeling depressed. I had a day like that yesterday, even after I received amazing work news that I won the highest National Sales Award. A trip to Hawaii that I cannot attend, because of my hip replacement in May.
I am in pain 24/7. Tired all the time, because I do not sleep well. Missing that I cannot do all the things which I used to be able to do. I do not know how I will get through the next 9 weeks. Have had my surgery scheduled since the end of November, and the pain and my lack of mobility continues to increase. I take one Ibuprofen 600 daily. Cannot take more due to allergies, and it does nothing for hip/groin/leg pain....helps aching in other areas of my body.
Hang in there and know that you are not alone.

I know I've felt the same at times, just get it out. Very frustrating but soon you'll be out there. We have snow here and I'm scared to take my new hip out, in case I have an urge to jump on a sledge and end up broke again.......not that I'm thinking about it...

jojool, consider this a confirmation that you do need that THR! Unfortunately nothing will magic away the pain you have now. Sounds like your body is telling you that you are making the right decision to move forward.

Glad you are having great weather! All we have is snow! :gaah:

So sorry you're having a rough time but you need to whine away, it will make you feel better and we all have done it. Jaycey is right, your hip is telling you that you are doing the right thing and getting that replaced so you can go on with your active life.
Mamarey I know exactly what you mean about not being able to sleep, tired all the time. Last summer I slept most nights on our couch because that's the only place I could adjust my legs to get comfortable. I was in so much pain any movement could bring tears to my eyes. I would just try not to think about what I was going through because if I did wouldn't have been able to handle it. I would get in my car after work and literally cry most of my way home so that when I did get home I could be normal for the rest of the evening. What we go through before and after our hip surgeries are very brave.

sandybeach...boy does a sandy beach sound nice right now. I don't like to go anywhere or do anything, because I am so tired and in so much pain all of the time. I drive 800+ miles in my car per week for my work, and then do a lot of standing when I am not in the car, so at the end of the day, I too am in tears. It is such a long road to the other side:boohoo:

Mamarey I read that you have to miss out on a vacation to Hawaii. Can that just be postponed? We usually plan a trip to somewhere warm every winter and we missed doing that this year too. When you're in pain like this that's the last thing you want to do is travel. We went to Hawaii last year...have you ever been there? That's my favorite place to be, I've gone several times. When we retire we are thinking about going there and stay for a few months or until I get tired of it or miss our children and grandchildren and have to come back....I doubt I will get tired of it.

Jojool, I agree with Jacey. Try heat. We had a wrap that you put in the microwave to heat up-- I think you can get it at a surgical supply place-- it was awesome.
Mamarey, congratulations on your award! That is awesome! Hawaii is paradise-- I hope you get to go some time.

Jojool my Rite Aid and CVS have those microwaveable/freezable hot/cold packs. Pretty nifty! I hear you, and I wish you weren't hurting, same as I wish everybody here was not hurting! ! ! !
Mamarey wow, congratulations on your award! You will enjoy the fruit of it one way or another, I know it :) And-- I guess you can't take tylenol either? That's working well for me, and dr gave me rx for tramadol, which I take once a day. Allergies are AWFUL, I'm so sorry.

Jojool I remember black days like that with me crying and my poor husband not knowing what to do with me.It is much worse when the weather is lovely and you just want to be outside enjoying it but you have made the best decision of your life to have a new hip and to get your life back
Mamarey So sorry that you will miss out on the holiday to Hawaii but many congratulations on a wonderful achievement

The lead up to surgery is the worse part... Time stands still, but the pain increases.. Focus on the wonderful future outcome.. No sitting on the sideline of life! :)

Ah, Jojool, it will be better when you have a surgery date to count down to. Waiting is so hard....

Mamarey Congratulations on your National Sales Award! And you did this with hip pain slowing you down---amazing. I am so sorry you have to miss the trip to Hawaii. That is a bummer:sad:

I am able to defer the trip until next year, so that will give me something to look forward to. Hopefully, I will still have a job, as my company will be going through my downsizing :(
Last night I took a Vicodin that I had left over from my hand surgery. It really helped me sleep better. As soon as it wore off, bam I was awake and spent the rest of the night in twilight sleep. I am thinking maybe this will help me at night over the next 8 weeks until my surgery on May 23rd

I've had to stop taking the ibuprofen. I had blood in my urine last night, so stopped the ibuprofen and will call my GP tomorrow. I feel like my body is letting me down. So today, I took 1-1/2 Norco, and the pain is better. I'm limited to the amount of Norco I can take tho, as my GP only gave me a small prescription. I don't think she has any idea what kind of pain I'm in. :hairpulling:

Jo get back onto your doctor and make them understand the pain you are in. Last year I was on my knees, crying with pain, and my husband said... you phone or I will. Doctor gave me mst continus. I was on morphine patches and they did nothing. I can take a lot of pain, but I think that's when my hubby realised how bad it had got. X

Do get back to your doctor. Pain will exhaust you before your surgery---you need to be comfortable enough to rest.

Mamarey I'm glad you got relief from vicodin-- may you sleep well for hours at a time each night :) Amd I am so very glad you can postpone the trip[-- think how lovely it will be with new hip(s)!!!!! I hope you survive the downsizing-- that's scary...but don't worry about it now, nothing you can do. You're obviously their top performer!!
Jojool that's scary about the ibuprofen! You may have to beat your GP over the head with a baseball bat to get her to understand...

Jojool, Mamarey, prior to my surgery I ended up going to a pain management clinic. They specialise in providing pain relief and fully understood the agony I was in where my GP didn’t. I was on the Durogesic patches, Tramadols, Tegretol (for nerve pain in the joint) and took the occasional Panadeine when all of that didn’t work. Of course I was never completely pain free, but I was able to keep working and do essential things. There are a lot of different pain meds available and you should be able to find something that will at least take the edge off. That unrelenting bone on bone pain is the worst.

Finally got my GP to give me enough Norco to help w/pain. It was a struggle though, and no refills so I have to go back and see her to get more. Just a way to get money if you ask me. Anywhoo, I have a question. I've been reading about general anesthesia vs. epidural. During the epidural, do they put you out, or are you awake? I don't know what my surgeon offers, but I'd like to be a bit informed if I want to ask him about it. Thanks for any and all replies!
