PT also slipped the kneecap back and forth horizontally.
"This is something you can do, too."
"Why would I want to?"
"Because it's good."
However, it's feeling weirdly less mobile now, and warm to the touch in spite of icing. I don't think my knee liked that, either.
This sounds like something my Mom would says.
ME---"Wh, Mom?"

Mom---"Because I told you so."

Celle is correct---do not do it.

Do not force anything and do not try to rush anything---you are simply setting yourself up for more pain and frustrating times. Please take it easy and slowly and understand that you cannot rush this or speed it up---but by forcing it and pushing things, you can certainly slow your recovery down.

I think you want to keep icing until you have full functionality of your knee and it feels like a normal knee. I was still icing my 1st TKR that was done in November after I did any kind of activity for good measure up until I had my 2nd one done 3 weeks ago. I use a combination of ice in the cryo cuff and the gel packs, so which ever is easier for you I'd stick with.

I'm icing less now, but after a period of a lot of activity where the knee begins to feel stuff, I use reusable ice packs. They are ready for me in the freezer. Mine are the ones already recommended.

I iced pretty much on and off all day for the first 6 weeks. Then gradually I felt like I only needed to a few times a day. The gel packs (at least 2 so one can always be ready to go) because as you get later (like 10-12 weeks) you might only need to ice once a day. On the hot days in my later recovery I'd use a gel pack before bed and then keep it in bed like a reverse hot water bottle. :snork:

Moved a heavy-ish instrument around, and sat in a chair trying to tune it for an hour or so. Now my leg is swollen and the knee is gently throbbing. Elevating and icing again. This is a rag-time recovery process indeed; you think you're getting towards the end, and nope! you slide right back again.

Does not bode well for returning to work this coming week.

We hear this time and time again when reading about the roller coaster of recovery - few steps forward, few steps back? But we don't really believe it until it happens to us, do we? Think there are very few who have a linear road to the place where ice packs are no longer required.

Do you work in an office? Are you returning part-time at first?

Just checking in with you as you've been quiet these last couple of days. Hope everything is ok.

@Raffs, I just popped on to message you, and there you are. Tragic news! The rental agency that brought the CPM (Cat Perching Machine) out just came by to collect it. Dips was very confused and a little annoyed, climbed in the CPM as he was bundling it up to take out of there. Fortunately, he was cat people, and he told her she could keep the cover. It's now on the tote that the CPM had been resting on, and she's curled up resting on it, but she's a bewildered and not terribly happy cat. Wrong, wrong, wrong. And I just stood there and let him steal it away.

I always keep the covers, sometimes my calf needed something soft underneath, and the bootie to keep my foot warm in the winter. Glad you have a :meow: happy cat.

Poor girl. And such an unsympathetic mommy. At least she gets the soft part.

She sounds like a resourceful girl, sure she'll find a new fave perch soon, assuming she is as fickle as most cats and gets bored of the cover pretty quickly! Hope she gets over the sulks soon.

Oh bless her, cats have such wonderful characters. Just love them. My lad loves to perch on the mound of cushions we have piled up just by the patio doors, which normally are used on the outside chairs. He can survey his kingdom from the safety of the sitting room in comfort, not too happy when we want/need to use them, lol. :kitty:

Cat dashed out when the young lady came to mow the lawn. I invited her (the cat) back in later, and she returned with a baby vole in her mouth. Since I was trying to get out of the house, it was "love me, love my morsel", so both of them came in. And then she left half of it on the floor, underfoot, where I was trying to bundle the trash to be taken out. At one point I stepped back on something soft and warm and rather damp. I didn't look. Must have been . . . .let's see . . . a warm washcloth! Yes, I'm sure that was it. Just swished my bare foot with a Clorox wipe and then used the wipe to scoop up the whatever and put it in the trash I was bundling. Cat circled 'round looking for her snacky, and it was gone. Drama, drama, drama.

She's curled up on her tote and cover again, so for now, it must suffice.

@CATSMUM, that is pretty darned inconsiderate of you. They must think we are so rude and so ill-behaved. If we had only been kittens, we would have been better brought up.

Went in for my six-week checkup today. Last time I went I had a chair, and had a friend drive me. Today I drove myself, parked in the parking log (quite a long poke) and used crutches. Then I went and bought a lunch at a drive-through, sat in the car and enjoyed the blue sky and puffy clouds (no smoke!) and greenery. Then went to work, hoping to put in a few hours. Tried to tough it out, but folded after an hour and a half. Home now with ice, elevating again.

Moved most of my foodstuff and plates and microwave and such downstairs. Still have the mini-frig with a few odds and ends and some paper plates upstairs, so if the mood strikes and I don't feel inclined to go down I'll be okay. But it feels like another small step of progress.

Edited to add: After 20 long minutes of ice and elevation, and not much relief, I shrugged and took a pain pill. Feels a little bit like a step backwards, as I can't remember the last time I took a pain pill except right before I went to sleep. But that's what they're there for, so here we go. If I'm not better by tomorrow, then I rest this weekend.

@snowleopard - That sounds like "big picture" progress to me. I'm sure I'll need the same kind of encouragement when I get to where you are. After all, this is a MARATHON, right? :friends:

That's a great 6 week update. Very positive. Most definitely the start of the return to normality for you. Fantastic. You deal with kitty's treats much better than I would - I would be screaming. She obviously loves you very much to bring you such tasty morsels on such a regular basis!

What a beauty! Those eyes! She's very much like our girl perhaps with a few lighter patches. Doesn't look that comfy but, hey, can't rationalise where cats choose to sit!
