Hi Mark I'm glad you enjoyed your walk, it's frustrating when you can't walk far but baby steps count for Giant ones in our world. I don't have any visits or physio either apart from the exercises they gave me to do when I was discharged from hospital. My follow-up appointment is 8th January. It does feel a little like you are just left to get on with it here in the UK, but luckily I've had no problems. I do have a phone number of the District Nurse tho if I had any problems but heyho after just over 3 weeks I'm feeling great and sleeping a lot now and like dede62 said, sleep is natures way of making healing time :santaclap:

Hello Mark,
I've had a few trips to the shops, taken by car with husband driving. I thought I was doing well. I have realised that everyone's recovery is different. I'm still on two crutches because as tizzy55 says, we are largely left to it once we are discharged from hospital.

You have to tune in to your own body and if your pain/discomfort increases then ask yourself what you were doing the day before. We will heal at the rate our bodies let us.

I'm sure you will think of things to do that you've been putting off because of time restrictions, now you have time! I sorted through the household bills and got them into some kind of order. I also wrote the Christmas cards early. Watched lots of films and sorted out my music collection.

It's nice to know there are others all over the world going through the same thing, you are not alone! :) :)

Morning
I agree we seen to be left with very little follow up here. It would be nice just to seen even a nurse who could tell you that all was good and you were doing well.
I have had 4 replacements now and for the 1st time ever I have been offered physio ? Think it depends on the consultant and hospital. I am 14 weeks post op now and have been walking for 8 weeks. I have just started to feel more positive about it all. It's very hard when you here of people who are back to normal after a month. We all need to go with our bodies needs. I am still on lots of pain meds too. I plan to try reduce them after Christmas but taking them is a small price to pay.
Have a good day x

well i'm feeling a lot better today after listening to everyone i have been chilling out not trying to rush things and i must say it makes a difference sleeping until 4 in the morning and a stretch out on the bed for 30 mins in the afternoon most of the swelling gone now only a bit at bottom of the scar 3/4 of the scar lookig really healed, doing a lot of reading as i'm feeling much more relaxed now.:dancy:

thats great to hear Mark...onward and upward...lovely to hear from you :ok:

Glad you're taking it easy Mark. Your body does a lot of healing while you sleep and it's good to grab it when you can :)

Hi all feeling really happy with the aid of a workout step and my crutches i managed to get in the bath to have my first shower since my operation pure bliss it's nice having the wife doing a strip wash but you can't beat a lovely shower feel so much fresher it's another step forward makes me feel great again.
i hope everyone is doing well.

I know what you mean Marc, that first shower which was over 2 weeks after the surgery was like heavan. Glad you are doing well

It's pure heaven, even if it means you don't get washed down by wifey. Feels like a huge step forward doesn't it?

My hubby was real protective of me not breaking any of my restrictions he would always be with me taking and helping me during a shower sitting on a tub seat. It wasn't until the last few days that he finally let me take a stand up shower by myself. Even though it might seem like a little much, I think it has contributed to the success of my steady as she goes recovery.

has any body had this it maybe just because the swelling is nearlly gone and every thing is tightning up but every time i stand up after sitting down the back of my leg is very tight and just under my bum with a sharp pain, i went for a walk down the road to see if i need to walk a bit more but it made no difference after i have walk into the kitchen and back it's calm again but as soon as i have sat down a bit and get back up it's back.
should i be doing any different exercise's to cure this or is it normal to go through this.:tada:

Hi Mark, yes, I often experience this..

For me, I think it is my hamstring muscle.

Maybe some gentle stretching, I will tag Alex, she is just awesome at targeting muscles and providing very good techniques and stretches.

Thanks alexthecat

I had that on and off again for a week or so probably around week 4-5. I iced it and it seemed to help. Haven't had it for quite a few days...Apparently something had to get over a hump!?! You might try backing off some reps of any exercise for a day or so. If it hurts to do them then stop and try them in a few days. It might not be ready. If you find it is happening more when you've sat too long, try and get up more frequently. You really shouldn't have to walk too far. Maybe just a lap around the floor you're on. Hard to say exactly what it might be....

merry christmas to all hope you all had a fab day.
i have a bad xmas eve night couldn't get comfortable no sleep untill 4am xmas day then up at 7am for little ones presents time but had to flop in bed at 9am for hour and half, i'm at the stage thinking of leaving these dvt socks off was driving me crazy last night it only week 4 has anyone else stopped wearing them.

Every OS is different...some people might be more at risk of stroke than others. I had a 3 hour procedure but never wore them, even in hospital. I can see how they would make you nuts. Sounds like you are doing really well, try not to get discouraged. By the way, some of us take a dose of pain med last thing at night, just to ensure we get some restorative sleep. In my case, I've also been taking half of the lowest dose sleeping pill. When you overdo it, you will find it harder to sleep than usual. You should check any med changes with your GP or OS.

Yep I agree they are all different. Due to problems my surgery lasted 10 hours. I was then non weight bearing for 6 weeks. I never had to wear socks but was on jabs for the first 4 weeks after surgery. I did find I was getting better at sleeping but the last 4 nights have been awful and waking every hour ;(

I am 2 weeks post op and I ditched the stockings. They were driving me crazy. If you do it make sure to do the ankle pumps to keep the blood flowing. Make sure to check with your dr.

My doc had me get rid of them when i left hospital you really shouldn't need them if your up moving around during the day. At least thats whats the docs and nurses said.

Hi Mark

When you feel up to it can you add a signature block with your surgery date as it is a huge help and saves us from skipping back through previous pages - here is the link with the instructions ta :)
