THR Right Hip Replacement in CT

Happy Saturday! :wave:
You're doing well for only two days post op. Good for you :yay:
Take it slow with PT and don't do anything that hurts. Keep the BIG TIP in mind -

BIG TIP: Hips actually don't need any exercise to get better. They do a pretty good job of it all on their own if given half a chance. Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all sorts of aches and pains and sore spots. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess.

Hope you have a relaxing day.... not too difficult when you can't do much else :heehee:
@kfenn

The therapist came. I got in and out of bed 5-6 times. Walked with crutches. She had me do glute and quad contractions. Lying kicks, heal slides, and bridges.
It annoyed me.
:bored:

I am pretty tired now.

@Layla
The Dr gave me these exercises. I dont want to do any!?!?
What do you think? I felt great before, should i be doing exercises, isnt that counterproductive to healing??

@Layla
The exercises that the therapist gave me are from the Dr. that is what i meant to say

Oh no, no and no. Not good to be doing those especially the bridges!!! You are just 2 days post-op! :bignono: I'm pretty sure Layla will be on here soon to give you advice! You need to elevate and ice if you aren't already! You're allowed to tell your therapist no to anything you want as well. Get some rest!

@SE Florida
Why would they do that. And she brought up trying 1 five mg percocet, after i got saying how good i have been feeling since i switched to 2 five mg pills. What the heck is going on??
I am resting hard, and doing the icing, with a new location on my inside knee.
Do I even need a PT? Why am i wasting this money??

Hi @kfenn
The BoneSmart philosophy on PT is as follows -
BIG TIP: Hips actually don't need any exercise to get better. They do a pretty good job of it all on their own if given half a chance. Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all sorts of aches and pains and sore spots. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess.

You can refuse PT, it's up to you.

I know what glute, quad contractions and heel slides are. I did them myself for a couple weeks until it really sunk in from reading here that it was unnecessary. I didn't suffer any ill effects from doing them. I'm not sure what the lying kicks are. I will heavily caution you against doing Bridges. I learned from my colleague, Jaycey, who suffers spine issues that Bridges are a core stability exercise and put a great deal of pressure on the hip joint. Through THR the soft tissue and muscle in the area has just been traumatized and doesn't need a work out.

As far as your meds go, I'd do what's recommended unless you strongly feel you don't need as heavy a dose. You don't want to let the pain get ahead of you and then suffer as you're trying to get it under control.
Keep that ice going, it truly helps with pain and swelling which will allow you to stay mobile.

Wishing you comfort and a peaceful evening. When they come for PT, tell them you're too tired, lol :wink:

This visit today seemed like a complete waste of time.
They timed how long it took me to crutch down the hall a certain amount of feet.

I feel like firing them, and going to see my friend a therapist in 2-3 weeks when I am walking well.

@kfenn, definitely read the link Layla sent you above on the PT. There are varying posts and opinions on having PT. Walking is the best and as your recovery progresses, you'll find that walking really does all the PT we need for muscle strength and overall stamina. But that is my experience and each recovery is very different for each individual. I've had both hips done, 5 years apart. For both, I had no PT but plenty of rest, elevated and iced a lot, and just made trips to the bathroom, kitchen and bedroom the first week or two. I picked up doing little odds and ends around the house but nothing major or that would cause pain. My muscle strength at 3 months now is great; I don't ride my bike yet but that's just my own mental block; fear of falling. As far as the meds go, I can't really comment on that. I followed my OS orders when I first got home but tapered off of them gradually. It's best not to let the pain get ahead of you so early on because then when you decide to take them, there's the dreaded wait for them to kick in. You mentioned the inside of your knee so ice it along with your hip. It sounds like you were doing great and if it's too soon for PT or you don't want it, don't do it. Listen to your gut because it's your brand new hip! :flwrysmile:

@SE Florida
Thanks for the flower.
I read it, and did some research as well.
The way I see it, I can get strong when ever in the future. I was weight training up to surgery.

@kfenn, just let your hip be your guide and you'll do great!!! We're here rooting for you, lots of positive vibes coming your way from all of us! :friends:

Is there an auto-password function for the bonesmart site?
I am hoping for a restful night of sleep.
Not much to state or question at this time. The pain meds are keeping me comfortable, the kids are helping with water and ice, and my wife is parenting for 2.
I feel good.

Please do not do bridges - especially this early out of surgery! They are for core stability and do absolutely nothing for a new hip except make it hurt. You are putting at least half your body weight directly into that new hip when you bridge. Soft tissues and the muscles around the joint are going to complain.
Is there an auto-password function for the bonesmart site?
No but most operating systems have an automatic password option. Are you using a MAC?

Using an Iphone. I forgot how to do it. I remember now.

@Jaycey
Agreed, no more bridges.

@kfenn Wow incredible news on the sleeping, a lot of new hipsters aren't so lucky! Those bathroom walks do wear you out for awhile but it gets a little better every day. Another reason not to have PT, it totally drains you and then there's the pain aspect, lol. Have a good Sunday.......rest and enjoy your new pain free hip. Glorious, right?!!

Hello :wave: @kfenn
A solid six hours of sleep is awesome!
Everything seems to wear you out in these very early days.
Take advantage and snooze :sleep: and ice. :ice: It's only temporary.
Have a great Sunday!

The weather here in southeastern CT is absolutely amazing today!!
My issue today is dealing with constipation. I may have pulled an ab muscle. My kids are finding it amusing. Like everything else, we are managing as issues arise.
I have been sticking to 5-6 min walks every 80-90 minutes or so. It feels good. OS has orders to walk perfectly; that has my attention to walk slow and upright. Good strategy by him. ‍️
Gonna have a berry smoothie for dinner. The kids are having burgers!!
Thank you in advance for the wisdom to slow it down, I know the temptation to rush the process will soon arise
