Alrighty time for an update since I needed to potty and get pain meds and I am awake for a bit. I did the dreaded behind the pain thing earlier this evening and was in tears before it was addressed. What happened is I had pulled the cord in the bathroom to signal I was done, and when the aide came in I mentioned I needed to let nurse know I needed pain meds. She said she would push the button on the wall where they normally cancel it instead of letting me push it on the bed. That was around 8:10pm. I was already at about a 5 when I asked because I had taken a nap. I waited and kept pushing the button on the bed because it always seemed to go off after a few seconds. Was talking to my son on facebook and after about 30 mins of no one coming in or answering the light I asked him to call the hospital and find out why no one was answering the light or coming to see what I needed. By this time I was at a 7 and before I got medications it was at an 8 and I was in tears. I was trying to stop using the IV morphine since I was going home tomorrow but I ended up having to take a dose of it at almost 9pm which is how long it took to get someone to address the issue to get the immediate relief and then had to wait an hour to get my oxycontin. Come to find out that when she pushed the button on the wall it actually kept them from getting thru to me from the desk. My biggest complaint about that was that since they weren't able to get thru to me on the com, why no one walked down to my room to see if I was ok. Could have been something major that a 45 min span would not have been good for. I let them know that too, was not very nice about it either. Now waking up at 2am I got 10 mg of oxycodone so we are good now. Back to a bearable 2-3 as all you hippies know can get aggravated the first day or so just getting up to potty. I got my tree trunk leg back on the bed by myself by putting my good ankle under the operated one and lifting with my good leg. Pain is back where it needs to be and I am past that issue, hopefully never to return to that again. Onward and positively upward!! As Dr Toonz says I remain optimistic!!
