TKR Progress

Happy to hear you are doing well, hope you gather enough PTO to have the other knee done this year.
If you would like to change the title of your thread post it here, and a moderator will change it for you. You are well past 4 weeks.

You have had a great recovery. It's nice to hear you say you are having no pain. Hopefully we will all get to that place, but you have certainly hit the jackpot. Good wishes going forward, and take it easy with your work.

So had my 4 month check up on my knee couple of weeks ago and am at 125 flexion. Dr was pleased told her still doing exercises sent home from hospital with twice daily she told me to cut it to three days a week. Am riding stationary bike 45 minutes a day and my knee feels so good. Ready to get other one done wish i had enough pto.

Good going with the exercise bike. Sounds like the new knee is doing well by you.

Sounds like you're doing really well. Congratulations!

You may notice that I merged your latest thread with your original recovery thread. We prefer that each members' recovery is only in one thread in case we have to go back and review your history at any point to provide advice. Also, it makes for a complete story of your recovery for others to read. So please post in this thread when you are giving updates or asking questions about this knee.

I am also happy that your knee has settled in and is performing well for you.

WOW! Your're doing crazy good! It also sounds like you're careful and not overdoing it (something I'm NOT good at).

Welcome to recovery again, @floridagrl

I hope everything is going well.

Here is your post-op reading again - just to remind you:
Knee Recovery: The Guidelines
1. Don’t worry: Your body will heal all by itself. Relax, let it, don't try and hurry it, don’t worry about any symptoms now; they are almost certainly temporary
2. Control discomfort:
rest
elevate
ice
take your pain meds by prescription schedule (not when pain starts!)
don't overwork.
3. Do what you want to do BUT
a. If it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physical therapist - to do it to you
b. If your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again.
4. PT or exercise can be useful BUT take note of these
5. Here is a week-by-week guide for Activity progression for TKRs

The Recovery articles:
The importance of managing pain after a TKR and the pain chart
Swollen and stiff knee: what causes it?

Energy drain for TKRs
Elevation is the key

Ice to control pain and swelling
Heel slides and how to do them properly

Chart representation of TKR recovery
Healing: how long does it take?

Post op blues is a reality - be prepared for it
Sleep deprivation is pretty much inevitable - but what causes it?

There are also some cautionary articles here
Myth busting: no pain, no gain
Myth busting: the "window of opportunity" in TKR
Myth busting: on getting addicted to pain meds

Please don't be overwhelmed by the list. The articles are not long and they and contain information that will answer many questions and help you make your recovery much easier on your knee and on you.

We are here to help in any way we can: answering questions and concerns; supporting and encouraging you from start to finish.

We try to keep the forum a positive and safe place for our members to talk about their questions or concerns and to report successes with their joint replacement surgery. While members may create as many threads as they like in a majority of BoneSmart's forums, we ask that each member have only one recovery thread. This policy makes it easier to go back and review history before providing advice.

Best wishes for this recovery!

Love the stationary bike, too. I use a recumbent bike which has been very easy to use and get me back on the exercise track. I don't push it in terms of "gotta do it every day", and manage 3-4 times a week unless I have a flare-up of swelling. Just started water exercise -- about 10 minutes at a time -- and that seems to be working out if I do it once or twice a week in place of the bike. Slow and easy...

Love that your flexion has come so far!

Second knee appears to be doing better than the first one recovering going well 3weeks post surgery going back to work next week
