Revised PKR to TKR Patellofemoral PKR with Ehlers Danlos hypermobility

I'm glad you sent that photo to your doctor. It's always better to be on the safe side. Please let us know what he says.

Woo hoo:xmark: Great news. Il'l bet you're relieved.
Enjoy the weekend!

BIG relief. Still keep an eye on it, though. And I’m sure they advised you to keep it clean and as dry as possible.

Different topic: after exercising yesterday, I had the strangest experience with my left knee, replaced in June. The lateral side went completely white, in complete alignment with the scar. On the left side of the scar, the knee looked reddish, as it might when one has been cycling in a stationary bike. After a while , the color normalizes but it was so odd. I also have noticed noticing the knee more, as in I am more aware of there being an implant in the knee. What could cause the one-sided blanching of the knee?

I wonder if its happened other times, but you never really noticed...
Were you pushing hard, Mochapup? Using a high resistance? If yes to either, possibly there was pressure on the blood vessels around the knee, restricting blood flow, then once you stopped your circulation returned to normal as well the natural color to your knee. Maybe warm up on the bike, if you're not already and gradually increase your intensity.

Is anything else going on with the knee lately that is causing the awareness you mentioned? Pain, numbness, swelling to mention a few? If so, you can always bring it to the attention of your OS and I'm sure you'll receive reassurance...giving you peace of mind.

I’ve not heard of that happening before, but a little research indicates that it could be from fluid buildup around your knee. That could have been brought on by your exercises and, as Layla suggested, once you stopped, things normalized. Layla’s advice was good. Take things a little easier and contact your surgeon if this also brings pain or you are concerned about it.

I am confused, though. Your latest post talks about this happening with your left TKR knee which was done in June. But your signature says your left TKR was September 10. Your signature indicates it was your right knee that was revised from a PKR to a TKR in June. Do we need to correct your signature?

Do we need to correct your signature?
Whoops! I meant my right knee, which was indeed in June.

I was peddling hard yesterday as I was feeling stressed…maybe that was the cause.

yes to both! Was feeling stressed and depressed. I have been off work since 2021 with the various surgeries and still waiting to hear from disability—-it’s possible I could ease into part time work but feel so confused about what to do. I am an experienced writer and editor and have ghost written for well known authors but don’t know that my body (the sitting) and spirit are called to that anymore

P.S.my posts don’t reflect my editing skill—haha! I let errors go as editing a phone screen adds to irritation!

I think the awareness may come with a little feeling of pain in the shin but not sure. Both knees are still swollen-not massively but it is evident down to the ankles.

I think you’ve correctly identified the problem. I know it’s hard when you’ve been dealing with this for so long. But it is important to try and give your body some grace and time for all it’s been since 2019. Swelling like you’re describing is not uncommon. Sometimes it can take a long time to resolve.

Swelling like you’re describing is not uncommon.
It’s good to hear that it’s normal—this is such a long journey and I was so used to being active. Have long used exercise to cope with depression and anxiety. I have fallen off on icing my knee too so can pick that up again.

That’s a good idea to do a little icing. Don’t hesitate to take some Tylenol too if you need it. I find just one 500mg Extra Strength tablet can sometimes work wonders for little pains that I didn’t even realize I had going on. We’re here for you when you need to vent a little about the frustrations of everything taking so long. Many here understand and relate to what you’re feeling. I’m in that boat at times too. It’s taken a full 2 years to get my body back to proper alignment after my hip was replaced! What an unexpectedly long journey and I’m still not completely “there” yet. Hang in there.

I'm sorry you're feeling stressed and depressed. Hopefully scaling back on the intensity of exercise and ramping up the icing / elevating will help ease swelling and pain.

Such an interesting career, Mochapup. Very cool!

I hope you have a peaceful Sunday and feel better as the week progresses. :console2:
