PKR Partial KR five days post op and struggling'

and it WILL get better. Now 12 weeks out and things are just about normal but less intense.. In otherwords the goal now is endurance and strength each day a little more.. The blues are pretty much gone when you get back to doing your normal life.

Sorry to hear your having a blue day. Hopefully by the time you read this you've found something to lift your spirits. If it's to hard to get out yet, maybe you have a close friend that could come and visit, maybe bring a take out meal into you and you could do a movie rental, or play some cards or just visit.
I think the gray, gloomy weather makes things worse also. It will improve in time. Take care.

The first 6 weeks can definitely be a bit of an up and down time period. I'm sure your shower must have made you feel a bit better. Get a bit of fresh air if possible. Indulge in eating something special. Look at where you are compared to where you started the day after surgery. You are progressing. You can go into the community tab on this forum and find some games or topics you're interested in to past the time. Hang in, it does get better! :friends:

Thank you so much for your kind responses. It does seem very up and down, not a constant feeling so probably related to energy levels, meds etc. Today is a beautiful sunny day, I seem to have even more mobility and a friend is stopping by later so it's a good day! Great to know that you are here x

@Go go girl, hope you feel better, I started to turn the corner when I made a more diligent attempt to elevate with my wedge, 1/2 hour before getting up, lunch, dinner and bed, I am in my 6 week as well PKR, been on feet more, we take dogs (in car ) for a run on hill up the road, roads are safe for me at base to watch them run, good for soul! better days are coming, follow the mantra here, ice , rest, elevate, listen to your body!

. I've been outside for slow walks for the past two days and also finally managed to get my leg high enough to climb into my bath to have a shower (a big source of joy!).

I wish I could send you my bath board. It was a godsend in the early days. Its redundant now as we had the bath removed and a walk in shower fitted. We were just looking at the hardly used bathboard today and wondering what to do with it!
I agree absolutely by the way, its great to feel really clean again. Good luck!

@Penny Lane ... sorry to hear you caught the Blues. Are things feeling a bit better today? I agree with the folks who suggest that you do something you enjoy. Watch a good, upbeat movie or call friends over for a visit or go out for a lunch.

Managed to get outside for a walk for the past couple of days and have also had visitors. Suddenly my knee is much less painful and giving more movement so the sense of progress has cheered me up a lot. I think it's being on my own that gets me down - I miss being at work with my colleagues and clients; I didn't realise how much I was defined by this until I was away from it! I'm learning to savour small steps and simple pleasures. And of course I'm greatly enjoying meeting all of you and being part of this community too. I've really appreciated your messages.

In the beginning there was knee. We were knee (s) . Life revolved around knee. If it hurt we hurt. If it was stiff we despaired. We couldn't sleep. We had to revolve our lives around pain med schedules. There was perhaps the need to ice elevate and PT, 24 hours of knee care..

For a long time we were knee. Not our hobbies interests ourselves but knee We were ROM.

After a while, knee takes a back seat to life.. Work and hobbies resume. Brain fog lifts to allow us to enjoy life. The knee may not be 100 percent but we don't care cause we know it will be getting stronger every day.

I was knee. I am that no longer, I am me.

Little Red canoe that is brilliant and so true! I feel as if I am surfacing after being under water for a few weeks. I hope that I can help another as much as that has helped me. Love and respect to you.

Excellent!!

I'm six weeks post op this week and feeling a bit more like myself at last! Sleeping pretty well, appetite normal, emotions less unpredictable. Getting about with one crutch, taking a 30 minute walk every day, able to get in and out of a car fairly easily although still unable to drive. Medication wise taking Co dydramol every five or six hours but no longer watching the clock as to when I can take them. A couple of things are bothering me - been trying to use an exercise bike but still unable to bend enough to make a rotation backwards or forwards - also quadricep muscle on operated leg still pretty much useless despite a huge amount of effort and exercise attempts. Any ideas how I can improve this?

Hello, it's been a while since I was last here and things have moved on quite a bit. Now 9 weeks post op; walking well, using a cane occasionally, sleeping well, still having two or three ice n elevation sessions each day, able to use static bike. Excellent range of movement, flexion etc. However there is one thing that's bothering me - the lateral side of my knee (opposite to the section replaced) is incredibly sore, the skin there is painful to touch and is a sort of burning pain. It It's still slightly numb there and I wondered if the pain could be nerves coming back to life again or something similar?

Glad to hear you are doing well, were at about the same point in our recovery, you have probably strained the lateral side , hang in there , did you turn the bike forward ? I finally did this week felt great

It can have to due to your nerves there. After my revision I had an area that we got from pins and needles to feeling like a sunburn. Slowly over time the area has lessened and now I just have some numbness. If it is bothering you a lot you can always check with your OS or with your GP as there is medication that can help with the pain.
