TKR One year since TKR

Thanks I reached out to my care team and they had me get a ultrasound but thankfully it came back negative. I had therapy today and she did some things that has helped. I am still just icing and elevating. Things are much better. It was just a bad day.

Great news! I’m happy you had it checked out and received reassurance. Hopefully you’re resting comfortably now and have a peaceful night.

Congrats on your new knee! I’m seven months out from TNR and still having swelling from my knee down to my ankle. Today when I was elevating I noticed that I could see the bones in my foot. Finally! My OS said some people swell more and keep it longer, and eventually it’ll go away. I had good flexion from the beginning, but still have tightness on the right side. Despite that, I love my new knee. It works great! Good luck to you.

Thanks. I am one week post op today. So far besides a couple rough days it hasn’t been bad. I have had several surgeries in my life but they all were get it done and move on. This is different and will take a while to get used to. I am just realizing that it will take more than a couple weeks to heal but am still glad I had it done. I go July 18 to have my staples removed and hopefully can give up the compression stockings then also. It was nice to be able and come on here and read about what to expect during recovery and how everyone else deals with the issues.

Well, I certainly hope you'll stick around and share more of your healing journey with us. Please do!
Have a wonderful weekend!

I went to get my staples removed today but they would only remove half of them. They were afraid that I may have another problem with bleeding so I have to wait a week to get the rest removed. PT checked my ROM yesterday and I was at -3 and 92. They massaged the thigh that has been so sore and it helped alot. I am hoping with the thigh pain subsiding my pain will be greatly reduced. So far the knee has hurt very little.

Bummer on the staples, but you’ll have them out soon.
Good to hear the massage brought some relief. I hope the pain eases for good soon.
Have a great Wednesday! :)

Well it’s my 3 week anniversary and things are going well. I got the rest of my staples out yesterday and they said the scar looked good. My flexon is up to 104 and I see the surgeon next Tuesday. The only pain I have is still in my thigh from the turniquet and it is mostly at night. I am off all pain medicine. I just take 1 meloxicam per day and the occasional tylenol if it gets sore. I tend to want to over do it since I it’s not painful and then I have to hit the ice and elevation to get the swelling back down. Hopefully I get a good report from the surgeon next week. So far the 1st couple of weeks were rough but it hasn’t been bad.

Happy Three Week Anniversary, Razorback! Fingers crossed you receive the reassurance you're hoping for at your appointment next week. Your recovery sounds like it's taking a normal course.
Let us know how your visit with the OS goes and enjoy the rest of the week!

Great news! Thanks for sharing an update. Hopefully you don't overdo it often, so night pain is infrequent.
Don't forgot about your old friend ice when you're hurting...always seems to work it's magic! :ice:
I hope you have a nice day and enjoy the rest of the week!

Well it was six weeks yesterday and and I am doing great. I have very little pain during the day and the pain at night has gotten much better. I don’t know why the surgeon wants me to wait on going back to work but I will do what he says. My therapy has helped a lot. If I am sore or hurting some they focus on that area and it really helps. I still get some swelling but unless I am up moving around most of the day it is manageable. I haven’t iced or elevated since week three and it the swelling seems to be getting better without it. I may have to some time but no problems now.

Hi Razorback,
Two months to date since surgery. Happy Two Month Anniversary!
Your update above is a good one. Thanks for sharing your progress. I hope you enjoy the week!
