Post -Op 6 1/2 weeks!
Recovery continues slow and steady.
Last Saturday I took my first trip to the city by myself. This involved a 50 minute drive to the city, I did a little shopping...Yay me, had lunch and then drove home! It was a wonderful feeling to be on my own and independent!
I am helping my husband with some of the lighter household chores... And it feels great!
I am still walking with my cane but I do find myself forgetting it once in awhile, I won't be loosing it anytime soon though, I know I still have a lot of strength to gain in my muscles before I can go without it. I know that it is still very early in my recovery and to rest and take things " slow and steady"!!!
I went to physio yesterday and they were so happy with my gait that they let me start on the treadmill. I am allowed to walk at 1.5 mph for 5 min twice a day. With my first surgery my gait was not good enough until I was at week 8. So no more walking in circles around the inside of the house. I continue to do my physio exercises and they have become quite easy... I can really start to feel the muscles working and improving.
I hardly notice any leg length difference now either, 6 weeks ago I really had my doubts about this but I guess my surgeon knew what he was talking about! Speaking of my surgeon I saw him yesterday for my 6 week check-up and from his perspective everything looks great. I got to see my matching pair of hips on the x-Ray and they looked great. He had an assistant with him yesterday and they brought up my x-Rays taken just before my second hip surgery. My oh my, my left hip was bad! The assistant asked me if I was now enjoying being able to walk again and not having to use a wheelchair, I looked at him and said I never was in a wheel chair! He could not believe that I had been able to walk with how bad my hip looked in the x-Ray, it was bad... To me it looked " crumbly" looking! I see my surgeon again in June and then if all is OK then just yearly follow-ups. One of the things I love about my surgeon is that if I have any problems or concerns ( or if I have a fall) I am to call his office directly and not to even bother calling my GP.
I am still taking acetaminophen 3 times a day but I am starting to forget the afternoon dose. I start to get quite stiff feeling more than actual pain and that is when I realize that"oops" I forgot my pills!
Sleep is great 7-8 hours straight. It has been many years since I slept like that.
Less than 6 weeks to go for the restrictions! I know I break them sometimes, but as I said before my hip tells me when I am pushing it too much. I love the "golfers reach" this makes life so much simpler. With my first hip I could not do this because of my left hip being so bad.
So life is slowly getting back to normal!
