@Legin, it's nice to see you around a bit more! Questions for you? Is your other hip in need of surgery too? What approach did you have with your hip surgery?

Sometimes feels like thru my foot. It was side hip. Yup I was told at first consultation right had to be done ASAP, and leftwould follow soon after. Left isnt too bad ish right was v bad I only had 5% movement to side but had ignored it for a year or two, well hidden or so I thought. Just proves thinking not my forte

Post - Op 3 weeks
I'm Bored!
I had my out patient physio today( I go every Tue. for 10 weeks). They watch me do my exercises and advise and or correct any changes or modifications. They did not add any new exercises today but they did say I could ditch the walker and just use my cane! I can't go outside much due to al the ice and snow, so I walk laps in my house, around and around I go...fun...not! But it is movement! I can't stand for longer than 10 minutes at a time then I get stiff, and the muscles in my leg ache. One thing of note my first hip replacement feels fantastic...no pain, no stiffness and it feels strong! (I am 5 months post-op with this one!)

I'm really bored!

I don't really have much for pain, it's more stiffness and muscle aches so I still take some medication. I am just taking acetaminophen during the day and no meds at night, oh and my Celebrex. No more narcotics!!!! This is a big milestone for me.... About two years before my first hip surgery, last September, I had to start taking Tylenol #3 (acetaminophen300mg/codeine 30mg) to control the pain. Just before my first surgery I was taking up to 8 of these a day just to try and make life bearable! After my first surgery I was still taking up to 6 a day because of the pain from the unoperated hip. So to anyone reading this and are worried about becoming addicted to your pain meds DON'T be, I am proof that I took the heavy meds for the pain...when the pain was gone my body did not crave the narcotics. The feeling is so wonderful, I can't believe how alert and clear headed I feel!

Did I say how bored I am!!

This week I can actually notice a little difference - to the better- of my leg length difference. When I watch myself in a mirror doing some of my physio exercises I can really see why I perceive the feeling of this difference , my body is so out of alignment from the bad hips. It's going to take a while for everything to get back into place!

Appetite is back. This is good but also bad!!! I have to very careful now I could easily pack on the weight if I am not careful until I can get more active.

I am getting tired of reading. I am not really a TV person, I am bored! One of my passions/hobby is scrap booking but I've tried doing some of this but I just find there is to much twisting, reaching for things ...and mentally I just can't get "into" it right now! Our daughter comes home from University for winter break this weekend so next week should be a little less boring, I hope!

I just love your update @NuMe2014 . It pleases me no end to read of your progress. When it comes to THR boring is good :heehee:!!! But I would be willing to bet that having your daughter at home will make life interesting. Have fun!

Hi @NuMe2014
I am following you with the boredom. It feels like as your brain gets a bit back to normal the boredom kicks in. There is a limit to the amount of reading that I can do and like you am not a TV fan. We live on a hill so like you I am walking round the house - how crazy round and round, up and down! It has been gloomy and foggy for the past two days but I suppose I will be a bit brighter soon. Enjoy your daughter and thanks for your informative posts.

Whoops! Overdid it on my stretches yesterday, and the evening before that I begged, pleaded and then convinced hubby to letting me cook the evening meal.... nothing fancy, it felt sooooo good to do something in the kitchen other than drying a few dishes, but probably did a little too much twisting!(don't tell hubby)! I was hurting a lot so I had to bring out the stronger meds..... Worked like a charm along with extra icing!
It is so hard this time around to hold back, I almost wish I had the energy drain like last time!
On another note, daughter will be a day or two later coming home, another major snowstorm moving through(15 cm of snow with winds) so travel warnings have been issued!

Tut at over doing it shame about daughter.

Post - Op 4 weeks
Not a lot to report!
Pain medication(acetaminophen 1000mg) down to 3 x day from 4 x day.

Exercise - I continue to do my physio I do half as much as what they tell me to do and I continue to walk laps around the inside of my house.... Boring but just way too much snow and ice outside! I have just been using a cane for a week now but I find I am forgetting it sometimes! I have to go to the city for physio tomorrow and I think I will have my husband take me to the mall so I can do some walking that does not involve "going around in circles"!

I am doing some of the meal prep and a few light household chores( I really had to do some arm twisting with hubby to let me do this)!

Sleep is great with an average of 7 hours straight.... still sleeping on my back! The odd night I wake up and can't get back to sleep but this is rare. Some days I have a nap and some days not!

It is a provincial holiday today, here in Saskatchewan, and it is called "Family Day". Three years ago on this day I did a 5 mile snowshoe trek with my husband and daughter....! This is one of my goals to be able to do again!

So....recovery is going slow and steady with no major bumps, I feel really blessed!

Oh, and my daughter finally made it home for her break from university, so now I have 2 people to convince that "yes I am able to do that"!

Chortle. Dont knock it pal its nice to have loving people around you

Hi @NuMe2014 It's good to hear your doing a few things you sound like your doing the slw and steady that sounds like the way to go .the trek sounds like a good goal I'm glad your daughter got home it will help with the boredom just don't overdoo the outings haha Fiona xx

I had another session of physio today..... I felt like I was 4 years old again and learning to balance! Wow are my muscles week! They had me lift one leg up and TRY and balance on the other....oh so funny! I have a lot of work ahead of me!!!
Today was the second time in 4 weeks that I went out of the house and did something normal again besides going to physio appointments. I went and did a little grocery shopping with my husband today. Last Friday we met with some friends at a local pub for a drink and wings. These little everyday things slowly starts to bring life back to "normal" again.
Oh and I can drive again....a little more freedom!

:thumb: Your updates simply make my day. Your slow and steady approach seems to be a winner for you and I'm trying to follow in your good path! I am being slowed by the infamous Energy Drain though. But, I don't worry about it at all-- I just give up to the naps.

Here's a question that may make you laugh: when you went to the Pub did you take a pillow (or pillows) to raise the height of the seat? I haven't been on a normal outing yet but I'm thinking about it....

@HollyB, Regarding not breaking the 90 degree rule with sitting in public places. As you might have read in one of my previous posts, this second time around I am much more relaxed and in tune with my body so.....yes sometimes I push or go past the 90 degrees but if it hurts I pull back! My body lets me know when something feels wrong! This is hard to explain!
First time around when I would sit down at our dinning room table ( on my higher chair with arms) I would lean back and bring my food to me, I did not even like to eat soup because I would literally bring the whole bowl of soup to me, very awkward! This time, I lean forward, and yes, I break the RULE....but it does not hurt, I do not feel any pulling or straining in the hip area so I am ok with this.
When I went to the pub the other evening I knew the chairs there are low but that the had arms and I could stretch my op leg out, so I do try to be mindful of the precaution. I just don't always follow it!!!
I would love to be able to sit in my favourite recliner here at home but it is way to low so yes I avoid it and sit in my wing chair(it is higher) with the hard seat! ( well it feels hard right after surgery but then what chair doesn't ?! So I had a pillow on it at first, at 4 weeks post op I removed the pillow because now it feels much softer!)

Thanks @NuMe2014 that's a clear explanation on how you're working the 90 degree rule. I had to laugh about the soup because I bring the bowl to me right now and it is very awkward. Hope I relax with the second hip just as you seem to have done. Something else you mentioned in another comment was about the last hip's recovery while you were still dealing with a bad hip yet to be done. I know what you are talking about! Today my nonoperated leg (which needs surgery as soon as possible) has hurt worse than the operated one! It's the strangest thing. I'll probably end up using the walker and/or cane a little bit longer than most because of the nonoperated leg. I don't mind as I know that I'm going for the "fix" as soon as I feel strong enough.

The weather finally warmed up, -10C today, so I went for my first real walk outside - with hubby by my side. We were only out for about 15 minutes but it felt WONDERFUL! The fresh air smelled so good. Before we went out I did another first since surgery, I baked a cake. When we came in from outside the aroma of apple and cinnamon was delicious smelling!
