I'm so sorry you are hurting. It's times like these that really try our patience, isn't it!

You're into September now, so it's just a few weeks away. Please try to take care of yourself and be gentle to that tender wounded hip. It will be new and shiny soon. (((HUGS))))

Jaycey, I feel for you! I'm pretty much in the same boat except I appear to have around 6-8 weeks or more before I get my date. However, I'm finding that all plans appear to be prefaced with "IF I'm available!" Roll on Christmas and we'll both be out the other side!

Yes Jo, this has been my whole life since March! I am now planning my activities with a steer toward conserving energy as this pain is really taking over.
Roll on Christmas and we'll both be out the other side!
Thanks! I needed that reminder!

@Jaycey just lurking about here as your wait slowly dwindles :)

I would call your bathtub a clawfoot tub. How about a nice sturdy dining chair for the start of your support system? I cannot imagine getting in and out of that tub in the first few weeks! (Had a walk-in shower). Maybe a wooden pallet like garden centers use, cut down to fit inside the tub? Traction for your feet and less distance to raise over on your way out? I am just thinking out loud here... Also really thinking of you often, counting days with you! :)

My phone sent this using BoneSmart Forum, clever phone!

Thanks for stopping by my thread @zauberflöte !

I am not going to use the bath - only the shower over the bath. I did manage to find a bath stool with adjustable legs that just fits in the tub. The height is even with the top of the tub edge. That and a grab bar for balance (not full weight bearing) should do the trick (fingers crossed).
Also really thinking of you often, counting days with you!
Thanks, time seems to be just crawling along!

Hi @Jaycey @Peaches informed me that you were having surgery. Thought I'd stop by to wish you well. I can relate to the rotten pre-op pain, and am very sorry to learn yours is worsening. Also sorry to read that you recently lost a friend. Please take very good care of yourself as you wait for surgery. I was daunted by the photo of your tub!

@LeeApril26 , thanks for your post! If I get through this next week I will be happy. I have lots of things I need to do and I am just praying my energy levels don't get me down. By this time next week I can start chilling out a bit more!

Keep up with your vitamin B's @Jaycey - they will definitely help with the energy drain.. Not long now my very good friend. xx

@Jaycey hope your week is going better. Hopefully finishing up the final touches for your recovery will help get you through the next couple weeks. It won't be too much longer and you'll be on the other side and be able to focus on your recovery and the upward swing you need! Wishing you much comfort in the upcoming weeks.

Sorry I can't give you any tips on the tub, but it sounds like you've done the same setup as I did. The difference is that our tub is a one piece tub/shower rather than the stand alone tub. The tub seat has been great for myself and two other friends going through knee surgery.

:console2:

Not long now dear @Jaycey soon you will be able to chill a little and then before you know it you will have no bone on bone pain xxx

Hi, @Jaycey! I'm sorry I have not posted here...but I have had you in my thoughts ever since I learned you have to have the other hip replaced come September. Which it now is. I'm so sorry you're in pain. And I am very sorry for the loss of your friend.

Your tub is beautiful ... but I relate to how scary a tub like that is. My shower is over my tub, too, though my tub is not quite as tall as yours and there's a wall against it. The occupational-slash-physical therapist who was sent by the insurance co. to visit me the day after I got home from the hospital (I had a poster-lateral approach, with the six-week goody bag of restrictions) told me there was no way I could get my leg over that tub. Also, it's a weird shape and she thought the bath bench or chair thing that you can buy would not fit. So she told me to just make peace with doing sponge baths at the bathroom sink for 2-3 weeks. So I did. It wasn't that bad. It really wasn't. But like I said, I had a wall with a grab bar (a towel rack, really) to use to get into the tub when I finally did. And you don't have that. So I hope others with a free-standing tub like yours can help you out with that.

You have given us so much support as we went through the surgery, I hope you know how much we all want to give it right back at YOU!

Take care and try not to worry and stress out, if possible. I know that's easier said than done.

@Jaycey I am sorry you are in so much pain. I am in the same boat as you and it is nice to know I am not crazy. I am having my first RTHR on Oct 7. Each day my pain gets worse. I tried to hide it from work too. I called my doctor because it was getting more difficult to walk and the limp was hurting my knee and back. He gave me a cane to use. Just when I was trying to hide the limp there is no way to hide a cane. Sept 30 will be here soon and you will be on the other side. Thank you for being honest about the nervousness and moderators. I am nervous and excited at the same time. I can't wait for no bone on bone pain and not to feel my hip grind at night. Thanks for sharing the bone donation. I am definitely going to ask my doctor about that. Good luck and thanks for all your honesty. You are helping me for sure. All my best.

I had forgotten about the pre-surgery mind racing bit. Where your mind goes through every possible thing that can go wrong and you literally wind yourself up with panic. Time for a cyber slap! :heehee:

Thanks for all the kind words of encouragement everyone. They mean a lot!

@Jaycey, less than three weeks to go and you'll be on your way to a pain-free life! I know you are experiencing all the mental anguish we all have and know that it's just one of the things you deal with preparing for this surgery but it doesn't make it any easier. Prayers for calm and peace as you mark the days off...it will be here shortly!!

Pain levels and decrease in mobility (had to take a taxi today despite a wonderful, sunny day and only a short distance) are yet again confirming it's time. Popping meds is also getting to be a major bore!

Boy, Jaycey....I know you must be counting the days until your surgery. Hang in there and just try to chill as much as possible. Good days are coming soon for you!! Mega ((((HUGS)))) from across the pond to you!!! So glad to hear your presentations at the BOA went well. Can't wait to hear more details from you and Jo.

Hi, Jaycey ... just checking in to say hello and send you my "hang in there" (easier said than done) wishes. This time next month it will be behind you and you will be well on the road.

Hi, @Jaycey ... you know, what really has made an impression on me is how I've read pre-op threads by people who were so anxious about the surgery (as I was!) ... and then something like a mere couple of hours later, it's OVER. I mean, the pre surgery terrors. And most every posting in the recovery thread kind of attests to that. So many people say, gee, it's over, what was I so scared about. Heck, you're a moderator and have read many more posts than I have, so I don't know why I'm telling you this. I'm just saying it because somehow it has reassured me a lot to read how quickly the surgery is over and all those months of anxieties are just over and done with. Anyway, I hope this helps you a little bit. I know this is a very difficult time, no doubt about that. You have a lot of people on bonesmart whom you've helped and we are all sending you hugs and support.

@Peaches yes you are absolutely correct - it's over and done in a very short time. I guess for me it's more the darned inconvenience of recovery. This all came at a time in my life when I am making new plans and big changes. Recovery from another THR was just not on my bucket list! :heehee:

And I guess one of the reasons I stared this thread was that newbies who are anxious should know that even mods have these concerns. Maybe more than others as we do read the whole spectrum of what goes on.

Thanks for your support!
