Not the Trailblazer this time – RTHR 30 Sept!

Thanks for all you concern and support. After the death of a very dear friend last week I have been reeling with emotion so haven't posted here much.

I am literally hanging in there. My pain levels are significant and ROM is decreasing rapidly. I have had 2 calls from the hospital confirming my date and giving me a bit more information.

Just bought my second grabber this weekend (the one to pick up the one I drop). Trying not to buy ahead as I have a feeling there will be some items furnished. I had to fill out an extensive booklet about my home situation - including measurements of most of my furniture.

Life goes on - how I hate planning around this event yet again! Thanks for stopping by my thread.

Another week of work down and limping is now very noticeable. I am waiting for the questions - although my boss seems to be away most days.

My current challenge is finding something to help me get in and out of our roll top bath just post op. Our shower is over the bath so unlike with my last THR (had a walk-in shower) I will need to be proactive. Any brillant ideas. I don't fancy not showering for 6 weeks! :eeeuw:

Well, don't I feel foolish---just never heard it called a roll top. I was thinking of something like a roll top desk and couldn't imagine how that worked with a tub:heehee: Silly me! Looks to me like you need a bench wide enough and tall enough to set across the tub.

@Jaycey, I have a very deep spa bath with a shower setup. I used it by bending my operated knee with my foreleg backward and staying balanced on the other leg was able to stand in the spa bath without breaking my 90 degree restriction - would that be workable for you?

Oh, hubby also raised my height to do this by placing a layer of wood which made it stable at the side of the bath. This meant it wasn't such a high stretch or a deep foot in.. clear as mud.. lol... Hard to explain xx

@bottomshollow , roll top might be a Brit thing - not sure. Unfortunately we have a circular shower curtain in the tub so a bench across it would only result in water all over the floor.

@Poppet , I think I have been using your method since my hip has been more painful. I may need to alter it as I bend down and hold on to the back of the tub as I get in. A grab bar on the side might be safer (a good one, not one that does not have the proper suction). I was also thinking about a small step so I'll try that as well. Thanks for the suggestions.

Ah ha... I hang onto hubby when I am using the big tub.. make sure the step is as long as the bath, stable and solid Jaycey - we had to experiment quite a bit with the right height x

Haven't posted on my thread in awhile as there is literally no progress to report. My mobility continues to decline and now there is the added worry about staying healthy for the few weeks left before my op. I had great input before my spinal survey about probiotics so I am already on that regime. I have started to focus on Vitamin C to boost immunity also. And I am now being very careful about avoiding cuts and scales - just in case.

For those of you wondering if a Mod on this forum gets nervous before surgery - the answer is a big fat YES! Maybe it's as Jo says - we see what can happen everyday and this might make things worse. Then there is the complete dread of recovery. I have been there before and although the outcome is terrific - it's not without hard work and ultimate patience. At a time in my life when I really want to start living - there is a bit of a roadblock to get beyond. :headbang:

T- one month and counting!

@Jaycey. .. I was thinking of you and your preparations.
Your advice and input is always welcome but it is hard facing into the road ahead. I'm still recovering from hip no 1 and dread the thought of round 2. I am hoping there can be a decent gap between the two. I hope the pain progresses less forcibly in the coming weeks. Good luck with the remainder of preparations!

@NoraJ Thanks for stopping by! I had 4 year gap between number 1 and number 2. Just disappointed as the x-ray post first hip was "perfect". I remember asking the technician if the right side was OK and we both looked at the x-ray. I was so relieved at the time. Fast forward - I guess if you are born with bad hips it will catch up with you. In my case it did anyway!

Thought I would stop by and see how you are doing pre op. Sound like you are ready for your THR, and to get your life back.
And I learned what a rolltop is.

Best wishes, @Jaycey !

September is here, so your THR will be soon.

I hope the days until then pass as quickly as possible, so that your anxiety and pain don't linger too long.

Hi @Jaycey honey, check out the nutritional requirements in this article, the nutrition applies to pre surgery as well as in the recovery phase - a good multivitamin with all the 'B' groups and zinc nutrient foods are important xx

Not long now Jaycey! Regarding the bath situation I bought a small step to put beside the bath so I stepped high into the bath (didn't have to raise leg so high)..... I bought a suction handle to hold onto (which can be removed afterwards so the bathroom doesn't look like a nursing home!).... I as surprised just how rigid it is! I put it in such a position that it as handy for getting out as well. Won't be long until you can get on with all that you dream of doing in retirement....thinking of you...Chrissie xx

Well I tried to run today. Accidentally of course, and only a short distance - but tonight I am in significant pain. I've said it often - the body gives us major clues when it's time for THR. I am hearing them loud and clear!

Aw, Jaycey... Try to hang in there. This waiting is just the pits! I hope the time passes quickly. I only had a three week wait for my THR, but I honestly don't think I could have lasted another day.
