Hmm that was probably pretty unexpected, considering how far out you are now from surgery. I did have some annoying bits of glue & gummy bandage residue that needed to work it's way off, it was just a little itchy. One patch of bumping skin did develop on the top of my thigh , but I think that had to do with leaving an ice pack on too long. Glad it seems to be getting better and that you can be over this little hurdle too

@Shazzstars -- Shazz - I've not had that issue, but a family friend went through a liver transplant in November, and evidently was allergic to the latex tape (or something like that) as the pictures of his incision on his stomach looked like what you are describing: red, blistery, itchy, etc. It was a big red rash all over. Hopefully, that's all yours is, and isn't an infection.

here's a photo taken a week ago, its slowly drying up. I put betadine on the weepy bits just for a day just to dry them up a bit. Not sure if that was the right thing to do.
Its strange one of my friend is a nurse and she said she has a girlfriend had a hip op for dysplasia and had a very similar rash at the 4-5 week mark..

I went back to work yesterday for the first time in 7 weeks and felt great until the afternoon then I just gradually wore out. Woke up today still exhausted so having today off.
This is todays photo of the rash, maybe its contact dermatitis.

Well that rash looks a whole lot better in the second pic. That is so odd that it started so far out in your recovery. Did the edges of your incision look pretty well closed up & healed then this kicked in weeks later? I'm almost to the 4 week mark & if something like that were to start up I'd be pretty upset. At least it looks to be resolving, hope it's done & gone soon.

@gardengal yes my scars were both closed with no scabs but the did rescab with this rash. I was pretty down on myself as I was puzzle why is occurred.. its strange who the body reacts.
I went to work again today, and coped a lot better.. I'm still tired but not as bad..

@Shazzstars So sorry about your rash! I just read your recovery thread and I am impressed with your stamina. At work in 7 weeks-wow! I bet the news about your crutches is frustrating. I had a hip repair about 5 years ago and spent some quality time on crutches too. Just think of them as 'hip defenders'....protecting that pain-free hip!

@Toddlermom thanks once I'm over the rash business it will be better. It's healing slowing it's not itchy anymore.
Well today's my 3rd day of work and I have a desk job which makes it easier. My employer said for me to just play it by ear on how I feel and not to over do it. I'm doing 75%weight bearing so it's almost walking. I have colleagues picking thinks up and making coffees for me. Maybe I should stretch it out a bit more

Hi @Shazzstars! Happy to hear you are doing so well and are back at work already. My personal opinion is that you may have returned too soon, but you know your body better than anyone and what it will tolerate. But, if you can milk it for a few more weeks, without financial difficulty, I certainly would. On another note, that rash that you had looked just like one that I had many, man years ago, on my lower legs. It turned out to be my hair follicles getting irritated/infected from shaving. Antibiotics worked and never had a problem again, except when I get bandaged with tape. Turns out I'm allergic to adhesive...blister within 24 hours.
Best of luck to you for continued good progress with your recovery.

Hi all its been a while, but I completed a whole 5 days at work and apart from feeling tired each night, I'm doing ok. I sit all day apart from moving to the toilet or lunch so it not hard but do miss my nana naps. Although the rash has gone the area around the scars became very red. Now they are almost healed it's still dry and flaky looking at the scar site. 2 weeks until I see my surgeon for the hopefully all clear to get of crutches and walk like a normal person.

hi @Shazzstars just read your thread. Glad everything is going well for you and that your rash all cleared up. i go back to work 8 weeks post op which is in 3 weeks so I read your thread with interest re the tiredness.

Hi there! I am going back to teaching six weeks post op and admit to being nervous about being exhausted! Any tips for me?

Hi @jomarie58 and @Hipster Coley I don't know if I have any tips but now at 10weeks post op I'm coping a lot better, just to have early nights but work is easy as its sitting down desk job.. I guess if I was going to give a tip its eat healthy and include plenty of protein.. it really helps with muscle recovery especially when your try to get those muscles going after inactivity. I have a protein shake every day just like when I used to train at the gym years ago.
no pain at work at all.. good luck girls

Glad you are doing better and the rash is going away, also glad you have a sit down job, I am on my feet all day lol. Good luck and keep up the good work, Great recovery you are having so far, Other than the rash,

@hipster4 I can tell you the rash was a worry with all the things you read about infection going into the blood. But it has gone away now. The sit down job makes my return to work very easy and my work has let me park the car in driveway which was the boss's spot. I'm a bit spoilt.. Parking is bad around our area and most you can get is a 2hr spot then you have to move it.

Interesting that you said to eat protein! My primary doc said the same in December and gave me strict orders to eat protein at every meal. I have 75 pounds to lose and have been dieting but she told me to worry less about that until I have both the hips done.

@jomarie58 the thing is and I'm no expert, this is what I learnt from a prior training as a long distance runner. Protein assists in repair and building muscle after exercise, and it's lean muscle also more protein make you feel full, I have protein shake mid morning and mid afternoon and put some frozen blueberries, choc protein and cinnamon with water or coconut milk, use a nutri bullet to whizz. It just delicious. My thought is, there's no harm in having protein to help all the hip repair and it's better for our health. I have weight to loose too. That will come as I move more.

So looking forward to seeing my OS tomorrow 12week follow up and fingers crossed no more crutches
