THR New Hip - On My Way Now to a Better Life

You're right Viv. I think I slept better around week 4, but still on my back. What helped me was to take my pain meds when I went to bed and lots of pillows around my body. It's a pain to sleep on the back, but ........ eventually you'll be able to shift your body to the side for a while. Be patient, it'll happen.

Try to stay with me on this one, but I would like comments about something I posted privately to a friend.

What is odd is that I look so forward to “tomorrow” at the end of the day, only to find myself looking so forward to “tomorrow” at the end of the day tomorrow. It is like I never get to that day I’m looking forward to.

Does anyone else feel this way? Could it be the Percocet?

Hi Chef

I understand completely, the future (tomorrow, tomorrow) is always a mystery... Very relevant!

How is the sleeping going?

A spin on this from Alice in Wonderland

“The rule is, jam tomorrow and jam yesterday - but never jam today"
"It must come sometime to jam today" Alice objected.
"No it can't" said the Queen "It's jam every other day. Today isn't any other day, you know”

- Lewis Carroll,

I had my first out patient PT visit yesterday. Decided to use the same guy that helped me with my knee. He reviewed the exercises they discharged me with and agreed to leave me alone for a week. I just need to keep up the activity and increase the reps if comfortable. Next week we will try the bike and some leg presses. I think this will be a pretty short plan with him. I see the OS on Nov. 17 and we will discuss the future at that time.

So, more of the same from me. If it were only boring enough to make me sleep!

Hiya Chef

Gosh darn it, this sleep deprivation seems to be such an issue with so many BS. As I have written to you (PM etc) it eludes me too.

Got to get better - hang in there buddie :)

:dancy: Finally took my last shot in the stomach tonight. Glad those are over with.

With more activity I'm noticing my incision stinging more. I suspect it is the stretching of the scar - all part of the normal healing process. I'm looking forward to the day I can put on a pair of jeans. I suspect I'm still several weeks out from that.

Nothing else new. Still not sleeping very well. I've even cut out my 5:00pm nap.

I hope everyone is healing well and best wishes to all the November members.

Chef, please don't cut out any naps you can take. They are key to getting the rest you need. Eventually the sleep issue with decrease. But for now - naps are good!

:dancy: Oh those belly shots are done, so happy for you. They sure aren't fun are they??

I'm sure you'll enjoy when you can put jeans back on and things start to get back to normal. Hope you can get on a better schedule with sleep. I know it's hard. I recently tried the Ambien myself and first night of it I made it 4 hours without waking, but last night only about 2 hours and then woke through out the night. So much for that med and me. Oh well I'm so used to not sleeping like most people so I just have got used to it.

Here's to you and sleep.

Hi Chef,

How is your PT going???

I also had some of that stinging at the incision area -- a bit like a bee stinging about. I thought it had to do with nerves regenerating, a normal part of the healing process like you said.

Sounds like you are doing well! Try to be flexible on the naps, sometimes the urge just creeps up on you in the middle of the afternoon -- go with it!

Take care,
Cardie

Jo

Thanks for the posting about the shots. I'm sure those who have not dealt with them will find that usefull. Once in a while I would notice that they stung much more than others - didn't know the trick about the drop of fluid on the end of the needle - I thought it was because the alcohol had not dried enough. The shots are more of something to not look forward to than anything else. They really don't hurt much and not for long. As you say in the article the needle is very small. Just a part of the day I didn't get excited about.

The complaining I was doing about the stinging was my incision not injection site. I think I might have stretched it a little. I've got ice on it now and it feels really good.

My nap needs come on very suddenly. I can be fine working on my lap top and in 5 minutes find myself struggling to stay awake. I certainly desire to be flat. I'm not light headed or anything, just really want to sleep. If I do take a nap it is normally about 1 hour.

I go to PT tomorrow. We'll see how much more I get to do.

 Missed that! Sorry!

The thing about the drop on the end of the needle I worked out for myself! You don't find that advice anywhere else on the net! :wink1:

Hi Chef

Sending sleep angels for you tonight :)

I had also had some stinging at the incision for a few months, thought nerves healing but also could've pulled on it and aggravated some scar tissue?? Either way, it will settle in time.

I went to see the OS for my 6 week check up this morning. He was very pleased with his work and said everything looked great. He removed all my restrictions and had me schedule my next appointment with his assistant in 6 more weeks.

I am sooo looking forward to sleeping on my side tonight. He said to try and keep a pillow between my legs and everything should be fine.

I also had another PT session this afternoon - without restrictions. So we did some stair exercises, leg presses, rode the bike, etc. Feeling pretty tired now after a couple Percocet.

I hope everyone is doing well - keep your eyes in your rear view mirror - cause I'm catching up with ya.

Good luck smja!

Hi ChefHuber,

Thats great news! I'm right behind you soon. Are you ready for a trade show?

Hiya Chef

Fantastic news from you!

Just a few more restrictions to apply though:

NO working 10 hour days
NO ice skating or snow boarding
NO climbing ladders
NO snow clearing from driveway

Non restrictions:
Plenty of menu planning and cooking and of course eating!
Enjoy first night sleeping on side :)

What to watch out for:
You may be 6 weeks ahead of me, but with my new RoboHip as soon as they unhook all the tubes, I am coming after you, so keep a look out in your rear view mirror heehee!

Great update Chef! So glad you are doing well. Long may it continue!
