Whoooo hooo....it's always nice when the sweet fairly "blesses" you with this gift. I think most of us can remember that wonderful day.

Here is another good one for you. My OS ordered several home PT visits to help get me going. About 20 minutes before my 2nd visit yesterday they called to say the couldn't come out because the insurance company wouldn't approve it. (The woman was about 2 miles from my house). The insurance company said I was doing too good (could walk 75 feet with a walker).

This is the same problem I had with my knee. I showed the therapist I could do some of the exercises and they never came back. My OS was livid. Guess I have to call him today and tell him the story is the same with my hip.

I'm very grateful for my insurance, completely paid for by my company, no co-pays, RX included, any doctor, any hospital, blah, blah, blah :skeptical:. I know for a fact they have paid out close to $100,000 in bills for my family, but would one more visit make them go under?

Oh well, I guess doing too good is better than not doing good at all.

Unreal story!! So what about out patient PT, will the disapprove that as well? Just because you can walk 75ft with walker doesn't mean you don't need help with other exercises. Guess it's the name of the game.

Glad to hear you have such great insurance though and that it's paid completely by your employer, that's almost unheard of.

Just got the call back from the PA and she too was baffled. But said it was great that I was doing so well. So a Rx for Outpatient PT is in the mail and I can get a visit or two in next week before I see them on Friday for my checkup.

I can't say enough how good the people that work at his practice are. If you are in the Cleveland area and want to see some caring professionals I highly recommend Louis Keppler, M.D.,Co-Director, The Spine and Orthopedic Institute.

Chef

seems we are on a similar schedule. I just graduated from at home PT today. I have been walking 1 mile day ( over the course of 3 walks) for the last few days and can do a flight of stairs. Waiting to find out if I will get out patient PT.

No, you are way ahead of me if you are approaching a mile. Good for you.

I probably could do it, and should try it, but I need some nicer weather to stroll around the block.

I didn't figure anyone really wanted to see what I looked like so I thought I would post a picture of one of my cats. This is Angstrom. My daughter named her. My other cat is Faraday.

Nice picture!! Hope you are doing well today.

Here's a pic of Tabitha

Like the kitty pic Chef - a real beauty!

there's plenty of PT exercises on here to do whilst you get your insurance sorted out. Keep on keeping on.

Angstrom and Faraday? You have an interest in electrical mechanics? :th_heehee:

Just returned from seeing my OS PA. She was actually in the OR during the procedure and said my femur was collapsed really bad. She knew I'd be feeling like a million bucks after getting that out. She said my incision looks great, no need to keep it covered. Still have all my other restrictions, 50% weight, no > 90 degree bending, etc. Have to go back in 4 weeks and then some restrictions will probably be lifted.

Very nice young woman. She has a really good position, considering her age (appears to be in her mid 20's) to be associated with such a reputable practice and really likes what she is doing.

You're doing great Chef. I wouldn't worry a lot about PT. You are still early in your recovery, and the normal replacement exercises are just fine for now. As long as you keep moving.

Hey Pete

Great to hear from you buddy!

Today is "d" day I guess for me with the renal specialist.

Fingers crossed (toes, legs and anything else you can cross) for me.

Have a bunch of tissues ready in case I have to produce tears to get action - only darn advantage of being a woman!

A quick update for all.

I've entered the "can't sleep for any length of time" period. While I normally would go to bed very early - 10:00pm - I find myself still up at 1:00. Normally I can sleep until 4:00am and I'm up again. Most days I don't fall back asleep. I might catch a hour nap sometime during the day.

I'm working from home using my laptop about 10 hours a day. Nothing else really to do. I prop myself up in bed and get to work. Up and down every hour, getting ice for my hip, ice for my drink, food, bathroom, walks, exercise, etc. I'm quite mobile - I think. Largest pain is in my groin when I lay flat. I just wish I could sleep on something other than my back!

Wishing all the rest of you good healing.

Chef

I'm in exactly the same position regarding sleeping on my back.

Its only four days since I had the op and I'm already frustrated trying to sleep on my back. i wan to turn on to my side but know at this stage I can't.

However, in a few short weeks you will get that freedom back

Good luck

I discovered that the sleeplessness is not just because of not being able to sleep on my side - it was part of the 'recovery' process in the first month or so.
I think it was at least 5 weeks till I slept for more than 3 hours at a stretch.
