THR Nerve pain in foot after hip replacement

Hi my visit with the neurologist went well, she was very good at listening to my aches and pains and she did a very thorough examination.she thinks it’s my L 5 but the problem starts in my thigh and not in my spine. I have to go for an emg test in two weeks and hopefully we will finally get to the bottom of this. Thanks for info on other hip I think I should wait till at least after these tests and then start worrying about finding another doctor to check it out

@Damper I'm definitely not a medical professional but curious about your comment. The neurologist thinks it's your L5 but this is where I'm confused, you say problem starts in thigh not spine. Is that you saying it's your thigh not spine?

Here's my experience and why I was asking. I had a spinal fusion at L5/S1 back in 2015. I had a lot of pain in my right leg, at times all the way down to include my foot even at times when the back was behaving itself. I had/have Spondylolithesis, the disc is off kilter from where it should be. And to make matters worse, and the reason for surgery, every time that I bent forward or backward it was pinching nerves and causing the hip, leg, knee and foot pain.

Sorry, didn't mean to write a novel but wanted to share my experience relating to L5 and where it can cause pain. It's referred pain, lots of us get it before and after surgery. My knee was screaming until I had the THR.

It is confusing.

I met with a spine doctor on Thursday because my left thigh has been numb and tender to the touch since two weeks after my last surgery. That means since mid August. He said it’s a pinched nerve between my L4-L5 that’s causing my thigh issue. The Gabapentin I’ve been taking has been helping but I’m to go to PT this week to learn the Mackenzie Method to help my back and hopefully help my thigh issue.

The doctor done tests using her hands making me push my foot inward and also made me do movements with my big toe and she said there was a lot of weakness in these areas, my cat scan and x rays came back fine and I can’t get an mri because I have a pacemaker she was just saying my ailments point toward my L5

Hello @Damper I hope you're having a good week so far.
