Re: This is my story
Janet,
Just wanted to check in on you, as I've noticed you haven't posted in the past day or two on any of the threads including your own thread. I'm concerned because I do know what a difficult time your going through, and it's easy to become depressed from dealing with such pain on a day to day basis for a long period of time.
I've read many of the threads on Bonesmart, and there actually seems to a few that have been through a lot with their hip problems and or multiple hip surgeries, and my heart goes out to each and everyone of them that are still dealing with such pain.
I have to say unless a person has actually experienced mulitple hip surgeries or such severe pain caused by a hip problem, it would be difficult for some to understand all that your dealing with, and the pain. So I hope you are getting the support you need at home, in addition to the support here on Bonesmart.
In the work I do, and experiencing similar to what your going through I know all if it can really exhaust a person mentally and physically. Physical pain can cause emotional stress, which can then in fact increase and intensify the perception of ongoing physical pain in the particular problem area or physical condition. Hip problems such as what your experiencing can also, and often do cause additional problems and conditions such as sciatica, disc problems, knee pain & problems, SI joint pain, pelvic tilting, etc.
Due to the additional problems a hip condition can cause, it's often the most challenging part in managing pain, until the root of the problem can be treated surgically or otherwise. I understand why your not chomping at the bit to get your failed hip replacement taken care of with further surgery, because I put mine off for over a year.
It wasn't until I could not walk anymore and had constant severe pain that I felt I was ready for further surgery. I don't think a person after a couple failed surgeries can be completely mentally prepared for more surgery, but I do think our body let's us know when it's time and you can't put it off any longer with the pain you dealing with daily. I felt that I was as ready as I could possibly be mentally for this last surgery I had, but deep down I still had some fear that maybe it wouldn't relieve the pain. After speaking to my OS about it, I did feel better about all of it. I just kept thinking a lot of "what if's" which is normal after mulitiple surgeries. However, once an experienced OS can explain exactly what needs to be done to get your hip right, and what exactly is causing the problems and pain like mine did with me, you will feel better and less stressed about the revision it seems you need in order to put all the hip problems behind you.
Thinking of you and hoping that your alright... (((hugs to you)))
I'm praying for you, and hope your able to find an experienced OS soon, so that you too can put all this behind you and you can enjoy life as a partisapant instead of a spectator as you put it in an earlier post.
