Good job on the picture uploading!! The new knee looks wonderful. So does that cryo-cuff. I have ice machine envy! My new knee is a Zimmer NexGen Gender Comfort Flex (I think that is right). So far so good!

I'm sending you good thoughts for a wonderful night of sleep and sweet dreams. And have fun (is fun even the word??) at physio and knee education. I would have to get ready, go to bed and just be dressed when I got up to be ready at 8am!!

Hugs xx:friends:

Good photo's Marie I feel like a duvet morning every morning they wake you too early here in in Rehab and with the nausea in the morning I would just like to keep lying in bed until it goes but have to get up at 7.30 that will be one good thing when I go home a sleep in!

Keep up the good work Marie!

hi all knee buddys , hope you are all doing well , i went to the PT at the knee education school yesterday and was quite enjoyable did the excersize bike half rotations , walking with one crutch , lots of stretchs , and squeezing a soft ball between the knees and rolling a football with the foot which was ok the physio didnt push me too much the leg bend is still only 70 ROM but early days yet , when i had finished and on the way home i felt really sick and light headed and tired i couldnt wait to get home i went straight upstairs and to lie on the bed and still felt the nausia i slept for 4 hours and felt much better for it maybe the PT was too much for the body to handle at 16 days post op last night i slept well too today is another day and feeling well hence the stiff knee . :dancy:

Would you put your surgery date in your signature like the rest of us do. You can find the instructions here How to create a signature. But please also remember that our membership is international and for clarity use the International Date system being 7th August 2000 rather than 2/8/00 or 8/2/00.

This also applies to anyone else who is reading here. Thank you.

I'm confused. I had thought in the UK they didn't give you pt and you went home and did gentle ones yourself. But in this thread the physical therapist was mean to jensen01..

hi scaredinaCA , pysical therapy takes place here in the uk for TKR i was visited on the ward after my op and encouraged to do the excersizes and given a list of them to do once i was home ,then they made me appointments to visit whats called PT at the knee education school at the hospital to do the excersizes i would think its by personel choice if you want to do them by yourself at home :)

3wk -post op hi guys i am 3 wk into recovery now and doing well i still have sleep issues and tired during the day which i rest alot but now trying not to sleep during the day to see if this will help my legs are jumping all over the bed at night with aches in my leg right down to the foot i cant keep them still its so annoying and wearing the TED stockings doesnt help they make my leg too warm and itchy 3 more wks and they are coming off :yes!: i am getting around the house with one crutch now doing the stairs up and down i am making my self breakfast and snacks and drinks during the day and watching lots of day time tv and online shopping with rest and ice on the knee , my mood felt low today due to tiredness feeling sorry for myself and wishing a could have a nice warm bubble bath in the tub so i thought about it and said to myself .... why cant you get in the tub lady get off your butt and try .... so thats what i did i ran a nice warm bubble bath and wow got in no problem oh what a joy it was so relaxing to lay there letting my muscles enjoy a lovely water treat i even did my excersize i the water which felt so easy doing the leg lifts was good i didnt want to get out and felt so happy i had left my phone on the floor just in case i couldnt get out and i would have to ring my daughter to come and help me out so here goes i thought i had better try after soaking for 40 mins i got out with no trouble at all although the leg didnt bend fully i managed it using my other leg 2 arms and upper body strength did it for me i cried with happiness on my acheivment my muscles felt nice and relaxed after a little massage with a nice lotion ... hello every one , does any one know if it is safe to travel on a over night ferry crossing after TKR ? next week my husband wants us to go on a over night mini cruise to holland we have a wheelchair to help me if i get too tired with walking i know there are risks with flying up to 12 wks with blood clots and was just thinking is it safe to go on a ferry crossing at 5wk post op i feel fine in myself and think i will manage it but dont want to be at risk of clots ???

The threat of blood clots after surgery (or any time for that matter) comes from lack of movement for long periods of time. Thus sitting for a long time on a plane or in a car is problematic. That's why getting up and walking around for a few minutes every hour is recommended. Since you are not confined to sitting in your car during a ferry crossing, you should not have any problem or be at any higher risk of a clot. So just remember to take it easy, not over do. Having a wheelchair available is good thinking and planning.

Take care, enjoy your trip, and keep us posted. We care. [Bonesmart.org] my knee on the other side

Have a lovely trip - hope it's nice and smooth for you so you can walk around the deck!

Hi Marie,
Just getting caught up with all my Bonesmart friends, I've been busy lately, lots going on with the kids, but all good stuff! Did you take your trip? Hope so! We went to our son's college graduation a couple weeks ago, it was a 7 hour car ride but we made frequent stops and I did constant ankle pumps and foot rotations as we drove along. It was a busy weekend but a lot of fun and the new knee did great.

So glad you have been able to treat yourself to a bath - I confess I haven't tried that yet! I keep eyeing our big tub for the last few years I struggled with it because of my knee and I think now I'm just traumatized  And I am so envious if the warm water hydrotherapy!

Take care and keep up the good work!
Heidi

Marie,
You are doing wonderfully. You should be a BS poster child! I have really enjoyed going thru your posts. Keep up the good work.

Hi Marie, how are you going! I hope you enjoyed your trip to Holland and didn't over do it. I've been doing the hydro pool as well and love it the exercises feel so much better in the pool! You are doing so well!

hi folks , just popped in to see how every one is going with there new knees i havent been online for a few weeks due to problems with my internet provider but all is ok now lots to catch up with and posts to read thankyou landoz and baystater for your posts i have missed writing on here and keeping in touch with you guys , well i am 7 weeks post op today i have taken the rough with the smooth some days good some days wishing i hadnt had the knee done i have no pain just stiff and feels like a tree trunk is attatched to my body instead of a leg the swelling has gone down quite well on the outside i would think there is lots more healing going on inside the knee isnt bending as much as it could maybe it will take a little longer i will be attending hydo and pysio therapy tomorrow and hoping for a better ROM 2 wks ago it was 70 , but its not stopping me getting around i drove my car today for the 1st time since surgery and it was a great pleasure the leg and knee was comfortable and a real joy to drive pain free so yes my new knee did me proud :) i also enjoyed our little mini-cruise to holland all went really well when we booked it i booked a standard cabin and when we checked in at the port the lady up graded us to a deluxe cabin for free she saw me on the crutchs and the wheel chair was in the back ground she must have felt sorry for me but i wasnt complaining there was much more room in the deluxe one and getting around on board was ok i think i may have over done the walking a little the knee did swell and felt warm to touch but with the bar man giving us as much ice as we needed we wrapped it into a bag over a tea towel and on to the knee :yes!: with much relieve , i am now doing normal activitys around the home just taking my time and resting with ice in between the chores i can walk around the house with no crutch but i do take the one crutch out doors with me my walking isnt perfect due to the stiffness and i think my other leg has been taking the strain with aches in the hip and knee which i am going to mention to the physio i was thinking omg i hope i wont need a hip and knee relacement its got to be the strain , it would be interesting to know if any one else has felt this ? my knee feels great in the morning after a good nights rest but as the day goes on it does get stiffer it seems the more i walk and do excerzice the more it feels tighter i am not over doing things just taking my time i hope this will pass during this healing process , this week i might go to the local indoor pool for a little water therapy and a swim , my sleep has improved and i am getting a full 6-7 hours every night which is lovely i feel refreshed when i wake so no more horrible nights with pain for me :tada: today i have seen my GP for a doctors note to cover me with work for another 5 wks then if all is well i will start a phase to return after having 12 wks recovery time , next tuesday i will see my surgeon for the 6 wk check up only it will be 8 wk for me as i had to re-arrange the appointment hoping every think will be ok which i think it will just need it to bend more :bicycle1: still only getting half rotation on the excersize bike i dare not try to go for full other wise i would be giving myself a manipulation ha ha ....really hope it comes soon :martini: i think its wine o clock time for me now it does a great job for relaxation therapy ( only if your not taking meds ) like me i am not taking any think only paracetomol if i need it , best wishs to all bone-smarts old and new ..... marie x :loll:
