TKR Muscle spasm?

@Ghostpipe well I seem to have lost my appetite, any sense of time ( I am wondering if my meds actually say Codeine or caffeine)
and definitely any sense of dignity especially after trying to negotiate bedpans! But my sense of humour seems to have returned with avengence.
So glad I am able to make you giggle I think we all need a good one frequently.
No no I'm no Londoner I'm not a cockney I'm a Yorkshire lass born and bred. You may or may not have heard of Yorkshire but it's the more humorous of the two I would say... But then again obviously I would!
Take care

At the moment I am just in awe of anyone who says they have had or are about to have this surgery done again!
I mean that. Maybe things may change and I will be wanting to join the same club eventually who knows, but for now I am wanting to give you bilaterals super hero status. Well done

Yorkshire would have been my second guess! I am a Brit, so know where Yorkshire is, Having bilaterals is cowardly in my case, not wishing to go through it twice.Just remember that it does get better in time, unfortunately A LOT of time.
Wish you the best.

@Ghostpipe
Oh where abouts are you in the world now then?
Do you know what I actually thought bilaterals meant you had had both done.. but I hadn't realised it refers to having them operated on at the same time.
Now I am in even more awe!
Gosh I can't imagine having to exercise ice etc etc at the same time!
The pain oh my oh my well done you I think that's blooming brave not cowardly!
Honestly i am knackered today physically as well spent yet another night up and down in and out of by bed like a flipping yo yo.
I held off pain meds so got a dose to take to help me sleep.. well that didn't work. I was wide awake until 3am ( no nap all day and believe me before this in an afternoon I loved my " nanny nap" and filled the house with my snoring at around 4pm most days.
But I'm not just sitting on my btm ... Can't it's a well padded btm mine but once it hits that mattress feels like im sat on a concrete floor!
We had a new super king bed and mattress so it should be lovely and hug my btm cheeks 8 my husband is not impressed as I picked a top of the range memory foam mattress and am now complaining that it hurts my ample backside!
How long since your surgery? Is it all settled now?

Well here we go again. Just when I thought it was safe to go back into the water ( well bed in this case) my body clock decided nah I'm wanting to party.. oh so it feels.
I am used to having my " nanny nap" in an afternoon and yet that seems to have gone as well.
My tranquil bedroom that once was my welcoming heaven at the end of a day seems to no longer want to comfort me and instead of the soft snuggly warm place has become a bed of nails or concrete that I am now dreading having to go too.
Surely my body is knackered by 3am! Exercise all day including walks around the house no naps just had major surgery and on codeine it's almost like I was in my twenties and after a few drinks wanting to stay out to see the sunrise... I don't want to see the sunrise .. well obviously I don't not want to see the sunrise otherwise that would mean I wasn't alive and I want very much to still be alive but just not be so LIVELY still at 3am!
NELLY PLEASE I know you are new and probably want to lead and show me what you can do ... But please can you wait for me and you to get to know each other a little bit better first please!
This is a new relationship Nelly .. nice and slow to start please I will join you in our adventure soon enough.

Nelly is the name I gave to my brand new knee
We are embarking on a new adventure young Nelly and me.
"I welcome you aboard Nelly you are a very welcome help/support."
But being a new relationship we need fist to build up some rapport

At night when I take those last meds Nelly it means I REALLY want to go to sleep
I am just guessing here but I think you are a night owl and yours are not the hours I keep

So can we come to some agreement and start by taking it nice and slow
Let me get my rest for now and hopefully one day while you and I are out and about
You here my voice from up above let out the shout
oo just look at that lovely handbag Nelly let's go girl let's go!

I live in Cyprus. Couldn’t survive the winters in the Home Counties, let alone Yorkshire.
Nights are really awful to start with, just carry on with your granny naps and make sure you’ve got a spare bulb for the bedside light! You and Nelly will be fine, it sounds as though you are a lively soul and moving around a lot. That’s all you need to do really. Someone gave me a copy of the NHS exercises, would rather have attempted Everest than do all that lot every day.

Good luck with sleep. Some kneesies have no problem, most do. I just started sleeping soundly last week.

@hawk2go oh can I ask how long ago it was since you had your surgery? I'm glad to hear someone is getting some rest now. You obviously have done something right.
Take care

@Ghostpipe Ah Cyprus how lovely.
My father was in the police force and as a child I can remember he and my mum discuss us all moving to live in Cyprus, my life could have been so very different but although In my head I would say oo sunny beautiful Cyprus I would never have met my husband... And I would put up with all extremes of weather to have him ( I wouldn't tell him this of course)
I have been to pathos on holiday one year.. it was the hottest weather as we went in July I always told my husband it was a country I would like to re- visit in spring.
Funny how I think from what I have been hearing on this site that some of the American physios sound rather brutal with their regimes in after care.
You see you never know which country has got the balance right .
Well I try to potter a bit on the crutches and do try the exercises.. but if it hurts that's it forget it for that day.
Take care.

Hey @BEWITCHED Charm. I had my right TKR on Sept 7th. I had the same frustration with lack of sleep for many weeks and took the advice to sleep whenever I could, tiny naps during the day make lack of nighttime sleep a bit easier. You must have a robust constitution to combat sleep while under the affects of codeine.

Check the gray text below any comment and you'll find our surgery dates.

@hawk2go
What this year? If so that sounds encouraging.
Yes I guess your probably right re - me and codeine not knocking me out.
But I remember being given diamorphine in hospital during a bad labour and the doctor saying I wouldn't sleep and he couldn't understand it,!
The pain I had with my knee replacement in hospital literally kept me awake most of the night on the first night. Morphine made me tired but didn't take away the pain. It wasn't a nice experience but they did get it right eventually.
I can't tolerate the anti inflammatory meds which is rough because I do think they help when in pain.
I'm not so much in pain at night just really agitated as can't get comfortable in bed.
Anyway as we say where I'm from" it'll b reight"
Here's wishing us both a good recovery

@BEWITCHED Charm, have you tried the pillow between your knees? I had such sensitivity early on that I needed to make sure nothing touched the knee, not even the other knee, especially on the inside joint. The sensitivity is easing but definitely still there. I straddle my legs around the pillow, so it's not exactly between my knees, they're not stacked on top of one another. Comfort in bed took many weeks for me, I sure hope your experience is different (sooner).

@hawk2go no I wasn't aware you were allowed to sleep with a pillow between your legs? This is the problem I think frightened to do anything wrong

Many side sleepers use a pillow for their legs. I use a pillow that is long enough for my knee and ankle. Early on, if the ankle was lower than the knee, I had such pain! Now, it's only important that the knees are protected since I have more flexibility and that slight twist (if the ankle is lower) no longer bothers me. Try a few different pillows until you find one that works.

my poor long suffering husband who is trying to negotiate his way around my stockings in a way no man I'm sure really ever envisioned a scenario like this when putting together the words women, legs and stockings!

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: My husband had trouble with the stockings too but eventually got the hang of it. Love your posts, @BEWITCHED Charm ! You make me laugh and smile! You are doing fine, this is the place to get ALL the advice you could possibly want.

Early on, if the ankle was lower than the knee, I had such pain!
Hawkie, this is brilliant! I'm using a regular sized pillow that is memory foam and contours down the length of it. I don't have the twisty problem when laying on my left side but I do when on my right, I'm guessing now because the left knee is on top... when The Knee is on the bottom, it's flat. This makes so much more sense now. I thought I was going crazy......

I think last night Nelly wanted to show me how we could dance while rockets flowered up ahead
I had to make it plain Nov 5th is annual and we could try next year instead

This obviously did not please her and for a good few hours she sulked
And gave me back a good few aches, pains and horrible tugs

This all went on for quite a while and we were a good few hours in
When Nelly decided to concede.. I didn't think for one moment she would not win

But yes she let me take some sleep and as the
last few fireworks died down
I felt glad I had made the stand after all Nelly was actually the new kid in town

This morning we are friends again. Nelly greeted me with just a little amount pain
Much better than anticipated I must admit after last night I did expect to be met by some distain.

Well today's another day Nelly one to get up and for us to try and find our feet
We two will understand one another eventually I'm sure and our companionship will become complete.
