I'm really happy for you @Ric A
Life with Good Hips is sweet...
an inspiring update:ok:

As someone a few weeks in, it's really motivating to see updates like this from people who were able to return to more active lifestyles!

Heck yeah, get into weight lifting! Strength training of any kind (including pilates and yoga) is the best thing ever.

Thanks MoJo.

It has been an epic and long journey, however it has been made easier by the fact that I have always been able to add exercises over the years as fitness progressed, as opposed to nothing at all so too speak for a full 3 year nealy.

This board has kept me going, and whilst many will not be able to go quite as far as I have they can see from my posts what is possible.
Also, that it can be a long game as regards rehab and patience is required. Not one of my attributes at all, but I took it more of a personal challenge to get the best I can after the difficult surgery.

Best of luck to everyone on the forum, and on the Knee replacement boards (I have a friend who require this), just keep going.

I should add, it would have being impossible in my case without the help of my wife.

Hi all. I still lurk on this great forum.

Just a quick update from me.

Everything is still going well for me.

Left hip is now 5 years old, right hip is now 4 years old.

Fitness wise, I can do most things easily now.

Including, Squash, club level. Up to 3 mile swims and running for a few miles. Hours of walking, all without any problems. Oh, and we can now manage long haul well to. 16 hour flights or so.

Very occasionally, I get the odd phantom twinges for some reason, maybe either overdoing it or something, but that settles down quickly with either rest or stretching.

Great update Ric!
I think we all get twinges here & there, heck I had twinges before I ever had a replacement but I’m over 3 years & my daily life is quite normal.
Enjoy the summer!

And you.

Thanks for stopping by, Ric. It is good to hear from you and know you're doing well.
It sounds like you're back to all that you love which is our goal. A belated Happy Four Year Anniversary, Righty and an early Happy Five Years, Lefty! May Summer 2025 be all you want it to be!

Thanks Layla. All the best to you too.

Im still here, and without issues.

I do get some calf stiffness at times even after all of this time, but nothing major. And occasional hip tightness or minor tightness pain you could call it, but this goes away after a few hours. No idea what causes this.

Ric,
I sometimes think even though our replacements are a God send they aren’t our “original “ parts and therefore every once in a while let us know.
I’ll be 4 years post op on 16th and most days have no discomfort. We are on vacation right now where it’s in the 80’s so my entire body feels great! We left 5 degree freezing temps so big shock for all my joints! But I’m loving the warmth.
Stay well.

Thanks, its just a small issue really, and not as bad as some of the issues others experience.

But, i can manage full sports now, ie. Suash at a good level, an hour or 2 game is no problem. Nor is running or long swims.

I'm 6 years out from my first THR and also experience these symptoms in that hip. I mentioned it to my PT during my recovery from my second THR last summer. and he said, "Do you think it might have happened even if you hadn't had a replacement. Sometimes our bodies just tighten up as we get older." Made me laugh out loud.

Ah, the joys of getting older! :heehee:

Glad to read that you are doing well and enjoying the activities you love! Take care.

Benne,
So true! I had plenty of aches and pains long before I had my replacement! Most vanish once my day starts. Good old arthritis once we reach a certain age.
