Core Decompression M.omar's recovery thread<^

Now at this point I’m really confused as to what i can do to relieve the pain.
You said you took pain medication but it didn't work. What did you take and how often?
Is there any exercise to relieve stiffness ?
Very gentle stretches may ease this stiffness. But any stretch should be done very gently. Unfortunately your surgeon is right - CD recovery can take up to a year or longer.
Hello @M.omar
I'm sorry you continue to struggle with pain and resulting low mood. Please try Jaycey's idea of gentle stretches. Hopefully it will help...

Not sure how long you've been taking the prescribed medication. Possibly it's not working yet, or you need to touch base with your surgeon to try something else. Please make sure you're aware of all side effects of any meds prescribed as well as negative effects of long term use.

Is it possible for you to get a second opinion since you don't feel like you're getting satisfaction from your current OS?

We'd tag Josephine to weigh in, but she is away from the forum recovering from a revision surgery.
Wishing you comfort, answers and relief from the pain.

It’s been just 2 weeks since the medication and my OS didn’t mention any side effects.
I took a second opinion as well and he had the same thing to say that CD recovery can be painful at times and takes at least a year to heal, so he didn’t want to jump into conclusions yet.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing additional pain and loss of flexibility in your hip as you're trying to heal from your core decompression.

The medication you've been prescribed also goes under the trade name of Fosamax here in the US. It's primarily a drug to treat female patients with osteoporosis, but it can be prescribed for males. Have you been diagnosed with osteoporosis? Sometimes AVN can be caused by use of Prednisone, a steroid drug. Have any of your doctors offered an opinion on why you have the AVN? Were you ever on steroid treatments?

If possible, I agree with Layla that you might want to seek a second opinion, especially about the use of the drug Alendronate Sodium, as one of the side effects of that medication is bone or joint pain. Did you notice that this pain and stiffness worsened once you started taking this drug? If so, it might be worthwhile to do a test of not taking it for a while to see if things improve. Of course, you should only do this under the guidance of a doctor but it may be something to suggest.

If you can provide the information on your pain medications (what you're taking and how often) as Jaycey requested, we might be able to offer some suggestions there.

It does sound like your left hip is healing well and that's a blessing. Hopefully we can get the right one back on track.

I was under steroid dose when i was a little child (2-3 years old). Back then i was diagnosed with nefrotic syndrome and only steroids could save my life, but my OS has ruled out that possibility as it was a long time ago.

It’s been just 2 weeks since my medication. I’ll keep a check about the side effect form now on.

Right now just paracetamol 500mg for pain and Vitamin D and calcium supplement.

Yes even i feel my left hip has responded well to the surgery. Fingers crossed for the future though.

Hi @M.omar
I hope you're having a good day.
You mentioned you were taking Paracetemol @ 500 mg twice daily. Assuming you are no longer taking it?
Are you taking anything in addition to the Alendronate Sodium?

Great to read the stretching exercises are helping. Have a great evening!

Yes I’ve stopped taking them.
Along with Alendronate Sodium I’m taking vit d and calcium supplements. That’s all.

Thanks...I'll tag @Jamie who was inquiring initially.

Have a nice evening!
@M.omar

It must be hard to be patient and know the recovery can take up to a year. Hang in there:)

There is quite a bit of clinical evidence out there that steroid use for any length of time can result in avascular necrosis and it isn't always immediate, so I'm not sure I'd completely rule out that steroid use as a contributing factor. But, it really doesn't matter now as the important thing is to deal successfully with the problems you have today.

You mentioned that you have stopped taking the paracetamol. Why is that? It could help with your pain. But you need to take more than you were taking. 500mg twice a day (for a total of 1000mg a day) isn't a full dose of this medication. If you are comfortable going back on it, take 1000mg every 6 hours. Stay on a strict schedule with it for 3-4 days and see if your pain improves. Just be sure you don't take any more than 4000mg in a 24 hour period. And you must count in any other medications you might take (like cold and sinus medications or other pain meds) that might have acetaminophen in them. That's the active ingredient in paracetamol.

Ok noted. I shall start taking paracetamol again. Hopefully the pain should subside. Bonesmart team never disappoints. Thank you all of you. May god make things easier for all of us.
