THR Lululucy in recovery

Thank you all! Good to know this is normal at this stage. I will try the stretching and pausing befor trying to walk as suggested. And so right, so much better than before surgery. I do find the upright bike helps with stiffness as well.
Thank you all!:flwrysmile:

@Lululucy
I've heard several members hear comment on the bike helping with stiffness. When did you start with the bike and is it a regular exercise bike or a stepper? We used to have one but garage saled it. Now I wish we still have it. I have a tread and an elliptical somewhere in the basement that should have been cleaned out prior to my hip failures...

Bebe I hear you on the basement clear out!! I started the bike at 4 1/2 weeks at my physio’s suggestion. I have access an upright bike so now do ten or so minutes a few times a week. Am going to up that time to 15 min if I can. The bike is a stationary upright bike meaning your knees are not as bent ( under the 90 degree. I don’t really know but think the step bike may be too much at this point. Maybe someone else can answer that for you. All the best with your up coming surgery!

My PT and doctor ok'd starting with bike slow and easy (no resistance) for a few minutes and backwards and forwards on treadmill (again slow) for a few minutes each day right away - went to gym to use them the day after surgery. I'm not the norm, though.

I think the step bike is too much too soon.
Alot of deep healing still happening.
Glad to hear you are doing so well!:yahoo:

@Lululucy Hi everyone! I have a question about hip precautions. I saw my surgeon yesterday and was given the go ahead to drive :loveshwr: and he also told me I could drop my hip precautions. I am at 8 weeks post-op. This has made me a bit nervous. Do I just start sitting in regular chairs, bend over to put on my shoes, toss out my toilet seat? I’m feeling cautious about all this. I would be interested I. How others handled things after the hip precautions were lifted. Did you ease in or jump in? I was surprised that these were lifted at 2 months because I was told it would be 3 months. Thanks for any feedback!

Good news for you @Lululucy. I eased into things based on how my body felt. I used chairs with arms when I could , they were just easier. Shoes came fairly easily, but I used slip ons and kept elastic laces in athletic shoes for a bit. Your body will tell you if it is ready for movements.

Hi there @Lululucy
Ease in. Let your body be your guide. If it hurts STOP and don't do it.
I'm not surprised your restrictions were lifted at three weeks because I never had any.
I was told from the beginning to move, slowly, thoughtfully, carefully......that's it!
Toilet seat can go bye-bye.
What helped for me with shoes was one of those small step stools. Op leg on stool, other foot on floor...
Or even op foot up on the second step of a staircase, other on the ground.
You may find you prefer the support of a firmer chair as appeared to soft, squishy furniture.
You're going to do great. Enjoy that new hip!

Hi @Lululucy i had the 90 degree restrictions lifted at 6 weeks. I’d already stopped using the toilet seat very early on and had also been using different chairs.

I was advised to take it slowly with the bending and listen to my body. You will probably find that you can’t get your socks etc on straight away as the flexibility isn’t there. But it will come back just give it time. It’s gets there on its own, no need for any exercises.

Great news on the driving front, it’s wonderful to be free again!

Good for good news @Lululucy.
I hope all continues to go well.
Keep listening to your body, and it will tell you what it doesn't like.
You are doing great!:tada:

@Jackie222 @Mojo333
Thanks ladies! Your confirmation makes me feel better. I had a pedicure today ( much needed!!). And found sitting in the chair with knees up felt awkward. Survived it though. Any suggestions for bending over to pick something up? My little dog for instance. I use the golphers bend for most things but can’t when picking my little guy up. .
:thankyou:

Hi @Lululucy
Fresh pedis are a great mood lifter!
Will your little dog jump up on a sofa if directed to do so? If so, you could place a blanket
on your sofa to let the dog jump up on, then pick your pet up from the sofa rather than trying to bend to the floor. Make any sense? Hope you're doing well.
Wishing you a great weekend!

@Layla
Thanks Layla! I think I can get him to do that. It certainly will save on the bending.
You have a great weekend also!

My little Shihtsu, figured out he had to get up for me to get him.
He's a little chunky monkey so I couldn't get down or stay balanced to get him. They will figure it out...all temporary!:) :-) (:
