THR Lululucy in recovery

Thanks danabanana for the encouragement. Also so glad to hear aching after staples out is normal. I appreciate your pain explanation also. Guess I am expecting too much. Didn’t realize learning patience was part of the process,. A big hug back to you!

I still have aching in my scar, I’m 4 weeks 2 days out. It’s quite normal. I’ve had to ease of with my exercises as it was starting to get a lot of groin pain. I’ve been massaging my scar with bio oil to help with the healing and tightness.
Take care of yourself. This is a major operation and it’s goung to take time to recover from.

You sound amazingly normal @Lululucy, right down to telling everyone you are doing great. Even though we may be doing great in terms of recovery it doesn’t mean we still don’t hurt and have concerns. Emotional ups and downs are normal. I think getting meds out of system can contribute to that (at least for me). Don’t overdo the pt. Walking is the best thing for you. Maybe some Tylenol to help with the aching along with ice. Aching is a form of pain. Hope today is a better day. Feel free to whine away on here! And yes, this will help you practice patience.

You are only 14 days out from major surgery. Yes, you are expecting too much. Don't fight this recovery - just roll with it. It's a short space of time for a lifetime of pain free living. Patience prescribed in large doses!

Try not to worry...and do try not to be super girl too much with loved ones.
They need to know you are still having plenty of recovery issues and that this was a major surgery and you can't just get over it.
It will remind them you still need help and reassurance.
Have a good restful day. You are doing great.:ice:

@Lululucy you will notice that I have merged your two threads together as we prefer that members in recovery only have one thread.

This is for three reasons:
1. if you keep starting new threads, you miss the posts others have left you in the old threads
2. it often ends up that information is unnecessarily repeated
3. it's best if we can keep all your recovery story in one place so it's easily accessed if we need to advise you.

Please keep all your questions and updates on this thread. I changed the title of your original thread. If you would like a new thread title just give a shout.

Hi Lululucy! What you are saying could have come right out of my mouth! I’m day 22 from my operation. Anterior. I’m trying to keep positive. I had groin pain “after” doing the leg lifts (just 3!). I stopped doing them. Felt better and decided to start again because those were the instructions from the OS. Well, I’m back to achey groin again. This time, I’m done for sure with those leg lifts. I know what you mean about being Positive on the outside but feeling sort of depressed on the inside. You’re not alone. I think it is the fear that the hip will never be “normal” again. It also helps if you know someone personally who has had a hip replacement and you can see how well they are doing. Btw, I have 4 kids who are all in their 40’s. And 13 grands! We all love to hike and kayak and play pickleball. I love to play with the grands so I’m hoping, like you, that I will be back enjoying all those things soon. PLUS, I need to get better because my husband is having his second knee replacement Jan. 3!! He’s been wonderful.

Hi there @Lululucy
It sounds like your two week post op went well. Great to hear!
I would think the aching is normal due to the area being poked and prodded while still sensitive
and healing. Try that little miracle worker.....ice :ice: and some Tylenol if need be. Bet that will help.
Expectations can be unrealistic during recovery, patience wears thin and the blues can set it. Pity parties happen!
While none of it is pleasant, it's normal and will pass :yes!: we've all been there.
I've read some of your heartfelt posts to others as well as ones spreading cheer. We're all on the same
journey and can relate....so you're never alone here. Stop by often....
Warm wishes for a peaceful, comfy, cozy day!

Also wishing you a :merry christmas: and a wonderful 2018!

I’m 10 days out from my surgery, and I’ve had in-home PT come a total of 5 times so far. She focuses on specific movements meant to restore balance and stability. Nothing she has had me do feels particularly strenuous or tiring; plus, she is super good about explaining the “whys” in regard to both the neuro and kinesiology perspectives. I find the exercises make more sense to me when I know why I’m doing them and what big-picture outcome they’re meant to achieve.

I’m walking with a cane, although, I have to admit, I sometimes don’t remember where I last left the cane (I live in a small on-level condo). Ice has absolutely been my best friend through all of this! My PT comes tomorrow for her second-to-last visit, so I’ll ask her what she thinks about electro therapy.
Stay well,
Patrikya

Healing is different for every surgery. My first hip was slower than this one. I’m at three and half weeks and starting to forget the Cain. Sounds like your doing well.

What a difference a day makes! Thank you all for your encouragement, understanding and suggestions! Feeling better about everything today. Took advice and took Tylenol and iced (I do ice often) and my leg has calmed down today. I have even graduated to one crutch as of today. I agree that sometimes the fear of not making a full recovery makes you feel so vulnerable. Blues gone , at least for today!. I had a talk with my husband and explained how I was feeling and he completely understood. He has had major surgery himself so can relate. When I read all the challenges that so many post THR people have I know I really have no complaints for which I am grateful. Thanks all for making me feel that I am not alone in this and healthy recovery to you all!

Sorry Jaycee, I am not that computer savvy. If I just want to post how would I go about it? Thanks!

Hi @Lululucy
Continue to post as you just did above.
Jaycey merged your threads so that you don't have multiple threads.
Easier for us to follow your progress if it's all in one place, as Jaycey mentioned.
Make sense?

Thanks Layla! Thought I needed to log in to somewhere special. Didn’t realize it would all connect.

You sound good! @Lululucy
Happy to hear your leg has calmed down. Icing really helps.
It's encouraging to hear the blues are gone. Confirmation it happens and passes.
I recall some days crying over the craziest things!

It's great you have an understanding spouse who's experienced surgery himself.
It works in your favor as the patient. Isn't it wonderful to feel blessed in your recovery?
Wishing you continued smooth sailing!

Nice to hear you being so upbeat @Lululucy. Blues do go away. You are not alone and are doing really well with your surgery. Let’s go for two good days in a row.

Thank you MammaT ! Had another good day. Saw my PT today and she confirmed that I was doing really well. I am walking with one crutch so more progress!! Now I feel embarrassed that I was being such a baby. Really have nothing to complain about. I lost my Mom this time last year so think it is all a combination of emotion. Usually not like this.

Well that explains a lot @Lululucy. I lost my mom in 2011 and my husband in 2015, so I get my down moments. You have that and this whole surgery deal. We are not being a baby when we experience emotions-it’s what we do with them. You had your cry, told folks what you were feeling, and worked your way through it. Absolutely nothing to be embarrassed by. Your Christmas will be different without your mom, but it can still be good. I think she’d be pretty proud of how you are handling this. You are doing a great job in your recovery. :merry christmas:

Emotional ups and downs are par for the recovery course, so nothing at all to feel embarrassed about. Add to it the time of year it is and the anniversary of your loss, your bound to feel some extra feels. Big hugs!!!! Glad you're feeling better.

Sorry Jaycee, I am not that computer savvy. If I just want to post how would I go about it? Thanks!
You are posting fine! Just scoot down to the empty box at the bottom of the page and start typing. It helps us to help you when all your information is on one thread.
I lost my Mom this time last year so think it is all a combination of emotion.
So sorry for your loss. It's a tough time of year for many. Add the fact you are dealing with recovery from major surgery and the loss of your Mom - doubly tough. Hang in there! By this time next year you will be living life to the fullest again!
