@swmrgirl , just read your thread. Sorry your surgery was delayed. Great that you're still swimming. My goal is to ride stationary bike at least 20 minutes a day. :upright:

Hopefully you will get a surgery date soon!

I figure any amount of exercise is great, at this point. Let's just keep encouraging each other!
Take care.

Every day I take some time here to read new posts, and each time I read recovery threads, my knees start to ache! This makes me laugh, as I think I have a bit of sympathy pain going on. Still waiting for a surgery date, but more patiently now.

:swim:
They're saying "you made the right decision for surgery!" :)

Nice new photo swmrgirl!
It was 104 degrees here today.
Our pool feels like a hot tub!
When do you think you will get a date for TKR?

Thanks, the first photo was taken in winter, so I figured I would switch to summer for awhile.
The surgery scheduler made it sound like it would be mid-October. I should know in the next two weeks...I'll update you when I find out.

You see the OS tomorrow, right? Hope it goes well for you! :fingersx:

October 13th, I have a surgery date, yay!!! This may sound weird, but I feel like doing a little happy dance. I have lots to do to prepare for the surgery and recovery, so I'm sure the time will go quickly. I had a meeting with the director of my department today, and she made me feel that her world would come to an end if I take time off... not likely. This is my time, and I'm planning to take the whole 12 weeks, like my OS recommends. After reading about so many TKRs experiences here, I feel like it's a good idea to plan in advance to be out for 3 months, and if I have a miraculous recovery, I can always go back early. I hope I can get my job out of my head while I'm repairing.
Thanks for listening.

Great for you!! It is your time and your recovery. Shame on your department director for playing the guilt card. I found I have a lot to do in preparation for surgery. Each day I scratch off some items from my to do list.

If you're able to help someone(s) get up to speed on what you won't be able to do while you're gone, that should help your director, assuming they're willing to let you know who it is (maybe you have suggestions?). If not, at least leave the clearest directions possible for whomever gets delegated the tasks to be able to pick them up and do them.

Then you'll know you've done the best to prepare them for your absence, and you can focus on your recovery.

Good advise, @PolarBear60 . I'm going to hire an interim manager and start training them soon. Several of my colleagues said they're willing to pitch in while I'm out. All in all I work with a pretty wonderful bunch of people.

Very pleased you've got a date. You'll have a new lease of life when your knee is replaced. You are so wise about taking the 3 months, you'll need it. I had a new member of staff start 6 weeks before l had surgery so had to train him up to run my department and l hear he's managing well. It's great to have support from the team, like you my colleagues are supportive. :)

Great news you have a date! I'm sure they will manage at work but it is nice to know they will miss you so much. It's great you have time to prepare (co-workers and your house, etc). I also agree that taking the 12 weeks sounds like the best idea for being able to come back stronger - no sense rushing it.

I just took my first swim exercise class this week (deep water, no impact) and enjoyed it and my knees were fine afterwards. Swimming may indeed be the best exercise!

Hi @mla925,
I noticed that you live in the Bay Area, so do I. Do you mind my asking where you had your TKR?

Hi @swmrgirl ... John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. Staff and facility were great! And very happy with my OS.

@mla925, John Muir is a great hospital., I used to live over there. I'm having my TKR done at CPMC in SF, happy with my OS too. Hope you're doing well.

 It's a beautiful day here in the San Francisco Bay Area. I just got off the phone with my surgeon, and now I'm waiting for my recliner to be delivered. My surgeon will use a spinal block, which somehow sounds more comforting to me than GA, but I do know that others feel differently. I had a spinal years ago, which was successful, hoping for the same this time around.

I've learned so much from reading the many recovery threads on Bonesmart that I feel well prepared for surgery on Oct. 13. Now if I could stop waking up at 4am until then, I'll be all set.

Cheers

Hi @swmrgirl I was just browsing round Bonesmart re swimming post op and i caught sight of your thread. Less that 2 weeks to go now and I know from experience how difficult the last bit of the waiting can be. You sound all prepared, recliner and all. Take care.

I had GA with my TKR and a spinal with my infection surgery. The difference was that I was more coherent and took less time to come out of the spinal than the GA. I didn't hear or feel anything and just remember being wheeled into the OR.

I had a spinal for my BTKR. The last thing I remember was the anesthesiologist saying, "You are going to feel a little drowsy now..."

The next thing I know I am waking up and being wheeled to recovery.
