THR Linette333 is in recovery<

It boils down to a balancing act, doesn't it?
:good-bad:
Yes indeed...and I readjust the reps when i feel it is overstraining.
More is not more helpful, folks.
If i am given 3 sets of twenty and I'm finding that overly difficult...i do 3 sets of ten.
My PT doesnt know how it feels to me.

The pelvic tilts feel weird and benign. But I've decided they are super helpful.

Hello @linette333 and a Happy Friday to you!
Hopefully the exercises continue to ease the pain and it's soon a distant memory. Good to hear you're enjoying the massages. I'll bet it's relaxing and comforting. I'm looking forward to hearing how your appt goes next week.
Enjoy the weekend and stay in touch!

Time for a 4 month update!
Sorry to disappoint you @Layla - I don't have an appointment with my OS, I was simply referring to giving a report on this site! (In fact, my surgeon made it very clear at the 6 week check up that he did not want to see me again!)
I continue to be thrilled with the new hip. Apart from the stiffness and aching when I get up in the morning, it's great! I can go up and down stairs normally now and can sleep on the operated side for about an hour. I am walking without any aids all the time, although I would use a cane if I were to walk on very uneven or hilly terrain, I think.
However the hateful piriformis syndrome continues! The pain in my buttock has moved over to the side and there are times when I scarcely notice it (hence the note of positivity a couple of weeks ago), but it is particularly bad at night and I have some days when it is really painful. The physio says it will be around 6 months until it resolves - I just wish I shared her optimism! I just have to carry on with the exercises and massage, as there is nothing else I can do.
I don't want to sound miserable, as I have a lot to be positive about.
Onwards and upwards!

@linette333 Hello! I was going to say good morning, but then I remembered your location..
such good news about the new hip and it's stability. You described it very well.

Your update is so valuable to others who will follow behind you, soft tissue can take a long time to heal, but it will continue to improve. We have to believe in that and trust the process.

I hope you had a great start to your week!!

Happy Four Month Anniversary! :happydance:
Thanks for updating @linette333 :)

I'm sorry the Piriformis syndrome continues to be an issue for you. Thankfully you have a reprieve from it on ocassion. Hopefully the reassurance offered by your PT puts your mind at ease somewhat. You don't sound miserable, you sound thankful for many aspects of your recovery, now...to just have the Piriformis syndrome resolve. Wishing you comfort until then.
Happy Monday to you! :friends:

Do piriformis stretches help at all, @linette333? I have an exercise prescribed by my PT which seems to keep that particular pain at bay. And I think EVERYONE has a hard time in the morning, no matter where they are on the recovery journey. Getting out of bed we all hobble and struggle for at least a few minutes. But getting up and moving about generally helps--that and caffeine! Good four month report, and happy that hip is working so beautifully! Hope you have a good day.

Hi @linette333 :hi: I just wanted to stop in and see how your weekend was?
Any changes with the piriformis issues? I know you mentioned the physio thinking it might be back related and wondering what your thoughts are on that?
I've found through the years that if I keep my back happy, most everything else falls into place.

Hi @CricketHip Thanks for thinking of me! I'm afraid I can't really see much improvement with my piriformis issues. I am now thinking that maybe I should see some other health specialist, as this has been going on for so long now. It does seem to be coming from my back, so I suppose a spinal doctor ......
You are probably about to start your day over there, so I hope you have a great Tuesday!

Oh, yes, my day has started, and it's a beaut of a morning, wishing I could play hookey from work! Is that how we spell Hookey??
I agree with you, it's time to pursue something else. I go to a fantastic group of doctors for my back, it took me a while to find the right group and they have helped me so much!
I wish that for you, too.

Hi Triple 3!
Hope this finds you improving.
Just wanted to pop in and wish you a wonderful weekend. :loveshwr:

Hi @linette333
How have you been over the past couple weeks?
Have you made any plans to see a specialist? Sure hate to think of you in discomfort daily. Hope today is a good day. :friends:
Hugs

Hi @Mojo333 ! Thanks as always for your good wishes. I will post a 5 month update on here in another week or so - I can hardly believe it has been that long!
Meanwhile, we went away for the weekend and unfortunately I have managed to land myself in the ODIC ! An uncomfortable 5 hour car journey, a strange bed to sleep on and a lot of walking seem to have upset my back. Feeling somewhat discouraged right now .....

@linette333 OH gosh, I'm sorry to hear about your back. That seems to go along with the hip recoveries, doesn't it? Mine has been a little grumpy lately, too.
But mine wasn't from getting away, though. boo!

Try not to be discouraged, it's a process and we just need to continue to remind ourselves of that.It does rather sound like your back may be the culprit with your piriformis also, what do you think?
Or has that cleared up for you?

Keep your chin up, friend.. there are better days coming.

Thanks for looking in on me @Layla and @CricketHip . Yes, I am sure all my "issues " are related to the back muscles. This new setback is on my operated side though and I am getting a few twinges from the hip too - first time I have felt a thing there in months!
Anyway, I am busy icing and elevating.....

Yah, you are just a couple weeks ahead of my THR and I had some weird twinges just today! It was out of the blue! I bought new sneakers for the winter and I'm guessing that wearing them for a full day at work was a bit too much.

Just a reminder for all of us early hippies-----

Aww, linette, I'm sorry.
I agree with CricketHip though. It can take a long time to iron out all the kinks from the favoring and all else incurred leading up to surgery. At least your body is in repair mode now. I'm sure it will all ease with time. Sadly it just takes some longer than others, but take heart, Cricket Hip, is still experiencing some of the same with a date in close proximity to yours. You're not alone.
I hope your discomfort eases soon.
Hugs
@linette333

My 5 month update. That in itself seems incredible - 5 whole months??!!
The 4 - 5 month period was a real turning point for me. I had really reached the point where I wasn't giving much thought to my hip at all - just doing everything normally.
So it was all great - until it wasn't! :groan:Unfortunately, I seem to have somehow stressed my lower back on the operated side and the piriformis issues on the other side have returned with a vengeance. I still haven't a clue what I did to cause this. A little extra activity perhaps, but nothing major. I am back on paracetamol now, which helps, but feeling very disheartened. This certainly wasn't part of the plan! :bawl:
I will see what my physio has to say next week. Fortunately I am managing to keep up with all my normal and social activities and that is preserving my sanity.

I am sorry you are having a recurrence of that nagging low back and piriformis pain. I can just imagine how frustrated you feel.
Hopefully physio will give you some insightful advice.
Glad to hear tht you are still enjoying getting out and about! That, at least, is a plus.
