THR Let's make it a matched set!

One small step toward normalcy this morning--for years I and a close friend have gotten together for coffee on Saturday mornings. She lives about 40 minutes away so we alternate--one week at a cafe near her, the next week near me. For the past few weeks she's either come to my house or, one week, we got together via Skype. But today I drove myself to a nearby Panera to meet her--sat at a table outside, drank our coffees and chatted, and then I drove myself home. Slowly, slowly, we reestablish routines.

Wow, @gertie, I bet it felt really good to be able to reestablish that wonderful appointment with your friend, very "normal" and so gratifying. It is the small victories and improvements that are so important to us all. Congratulations, and a big pat on the back to you! And happy Saturday!

@Barbaraj And Happy Saturday to you! I hope you have some "get out of the house" plans this weekend.

@gertie I know just how you feel about "normalcy ". Gradually getting back to doing the things we used to fill our days with feels so good! And to be able to do them now without that dragging hip pain is just the best!

Wonderful news!
What a nice arrangement you and you friend have to meet every Saturday. It must be a special friendship to meet via Skype when it's been difficult for you. It's great you're able to get back into your routine.
I hope you have a lovely Sunday!
@gertie

@Layla The Saturday coffee with my friend is a nice routine to have and one we both value--we used the Skype option when she and her husband lived out of the area for a while--not quite as satisfying as sitting face to face but still a good thing to do.

Ha, ha, @gertie--I had to smile at your comment that you know you've been cooped up too long when an outing to the grocery store is looked forward to with an eager smile! I know we've run low on a few things, so I am thinking I'll suggest to my husband that we make and exciting trip to the grocery store at some point today. That will be, of course, the thrilling highlight of my day! Happy Monday!

Hi, @gertie, thanks for asking--the birthday dinner was exhausting (so glad to finally leave after several hours, although gritted teeth smile until the end so as not to ruin anything on the birthday girl's big day) but a lovely dinner with the added treat of a cocktail. Skipped the evening dose of Tramadol for Tylenol but I think I was so wiped out that it didn't matter.

A little more than 5 weeks since op day
Slowly, slowly getting back to a more normal routine
--It's a joy to be able to drive myself places!
--I've been counting steps--yesterday was the most so far at a bit over 4000--a med appt, a quick trip to a grocery store, some house tidying, and a short walk down the block (too hot for anything longer). Hip holding up--muscles a bit tired and achy at night but recovered in the morning.
--Using a cane still outside but more and more going without in the house--if I start to limp, I grab the cane--mostly in the evenings.
--Fending for myself with food--stopped the Meals on Wheels deliveries (although I did order takeout last night :))
--Took a bag of trash out to the can in the garage and then pulled the can down the driveway for pickup (be still my heart, such adventures!) Still need help dealing with the recycling because I don't want to bend down to pick up the loaded bin and carry it down the drive then put down again.
--Energy drain still a factor--there's a concert I'd like to go to tonight but I didn't buy a ticket because I know how sleepy I get--a few weeks from now it would probably be OK but not right now.

So, still some significant limitations (energy, bending, etc.) but also some progress.

Hello @gertie
You and I sound like we are in about the same stage. Loved! your comment about" be still my heart" after taking a trash can to and fro.. hahaha that was priceless! We will know it's bad when we dress up for that trash can journey! Or did you already? No pearls, I hope..
Lets keep on keeping on. we both are seeing great improvements.

Great report, @gertie, and gives me hope moving forward that I, too, will be able to slowly start picking up some of the house chores (oh, love my hubby but really wanting to get back to meal prep myself--who'd have ever thought that?!!) and start driving. It's funny how even the small and really insignificant things loom so large as we are on the recovery trail. But hurray for you--you're doing great!

@gertie /Lynn such a good update and love that wild and crazy life you're leading! I do so laugh at the little things that tickle us. Every new thing we can do is on so welcome! Still pretty much bopping around in t-shirts and leggings, only put shoes on if actually going somewhere. Probably wouldn't do that if I could get away with it, always been a barefoot kind of gal.
