Hello @gertie
Safe travels home tomorrow.
I hope you're resting comfortably and your pain is well managed.
Will look forward to hearing from you soon.
Happy healing!

I'm home! Yee haw! Stretched out on the daybed on the back porch on a hot, sunny day, trying to ignore the cat's cries to be let out--letting him in and out is just too much to deal with today.

Hip already feels better--I sat a lot in the hospital since they don't let joint replacement patients get up without supervision--so except for trips to the loo and my 2 pt sessions a day, I was plunked in a chair or bed and oh, my did things hurt when I stood up. But now, after my ride home and navigating into the house and wandering around a bit to get settled, hip feels just a little tight. (and the incision is sore).

I had a rough first day with dizziness. PT came in at one point and tried to persuade me to sit up, stand up, etc. and I refused, repeatedly, until they finally gave up. I got some meclizine on board and that took care of the dizziness but made me really sleepy. I did get up and sit in the chair for an hour or so and then back to bed. Slept for a good chunk of day 1. Was also having a hard time getting my bladder to work but it finally got going and I was up multiple times last night.

Lots of the staff there call people "honey" and "sweetie." I don't know if they do that for everyone or just old ladies but I always feel a little bit patronized. I lost it last night--3:30 a.m. blood draw and the tech asked "what's your name, sweetie?" I snapped "well it's not sweetie--or honey" Noticed from that point forward everyone called me Lynn.

Sounds like you have got off to a great start! Now that you are home, the recovery can begin! :loveshwr:
I share your irritation at being called "honey " and "sweetie " ( here in the UK it's "lovely" or " sweetheart " amongst others!), so we'll done on your reply! :heehee:

Oh this did make me smile! If someone wants to wake me at 3:30 after surgery for any reason whatsoever (a) it better be a good reason and (b) “ma’am” might be a good place to start!

It’s lovely to hear you are finding comfort at home. Yay!

You are giving a gift to novices like me when you show us we can say no to suggestions that are well meaning but not suitable. One of the most nerve-wracking parts of this is giving up so much control, and I appreciate the way you model self-advocacy.

Glad you are home so now the actual healing can start!

I know I can be bad about calling folks Jon or Kiddo, but that's cause most of them are way younger than me. I do laugh at the 20 something's that call me honey and sweetheart. I'm not only old enough to be your Mom I'm old enough to be your Grandma!
:loll:

Day 3 of recovery (not counting op day)
At home, so lovely. A friend stayed last night and brought me coffee and breakfast this a.m. The poop fairy visited! In my recliner--will move to porch shortly before it gets too hot. PT is coming soon--I've worked with this woman before and like her. Pain is minimal and managed so far today with xtra strength acetaminophen. Slept badly--partly just because of recovery, partly because of friend visiting--I got up to go to loo, then she got up, then cat got up--you get the picture. Friends scheduled to drop in throughout the day. First meals on wheels offering tonight. And that's the view from the morning of day 3.

PT was just here. this group of PTs also do routine VNA tasks--so she checked vitals and looked at the incision. She said walking is the best therapy for hips--but we know that already. I'm doing ankle pumps and butt clenches and getting up to walk up and down the hall every hour.

@gertie , Lynn glad to see you're home and doing reasonably well, so happy for you.

Was at the hospital yesterday morning, all prepped, waiting on anesthesiologist and ready to go. They come in and tell me OS was in a car accident, he is fine but unable to do the surgery at this time and they send me home.

No contact from his office to see if I'm ok, to tell me they are working on getting me rescheduled, nothing. Guess I expect too much from people. Have not had a warm and fuzzy working with his scheduler from the get go so am really uneasy. Haven't heard anything this morning so going to swing by in person to see what the plan is.

Sorry, didn't mean to high jack your thread. So happy for you and really hoping to join you on the healing side soon!
:console2:

@Elf1 Not hijacking at all! I hope to see you over here really soon. They probably have a lot of people to reschedule but since you were at the hospital and ready to go I'd think you'd be a priority callback. Sheesh. Good luck sorting things out.

@gertie Lynn, just got back from the OS office and am now rescheduled for 8 July! Yippee! Thanks for understanding and letting me vent.

:hi:
It sounds like you're doing really well so far. I hope you get a better night's sleep this evening.
With any luck your first delivered meal is a yummy one. :fingersx:
Wishing you comfort as you begin the journey!
@gertie

Chocolate cake sounds yummy! I ended up with a cherry pie when we were at the store. Glad you're doing well even if you're a little loopy, enjoy the ride!
